Is there anything I can try and help get you guys photos of for those not in the area? I can't make any promises since I don't know what may or may not have public access, but if there are things that it'd help you to see to understand or get a feel of somewhere I'm happy to try.

As I told someone earlier, I've followed many cases on here and I know how hard it is sometimes when you're following a case but don't "get it" because you can't see where things are, etc. (Maybe that's just me being very visual) and since this one is so close to me I figured it's the least I can do to try and make some things clearer for others.

I think right now we need to not say specific streets, which is why I was limiting it to the duplex/townhome things that ::line:: Matinal and West Bernardo areas.

If I see photos of the front of one published on a site I'll do a map then, but right now I'm afraid that's probably walking a line we shouldn't do yet...but I'm guessing we'll have the address public shortly anyway.

Suffice it to say, the area would make it easy for him to walk the neighborhood to the trail head and it not at all arouse suspicion.

Also, people do, at times, part at that Poblado trail access area along the street where it curves there, so he could have done something to her earlier in the day, hidden her somewhere, and come back later and removed her - while the search would just be getting started over on the far side of the park.

I have read several news articles that have specifically named the street and stated it is linked to him through public record. No exact address has been given yet.

I've been listening to the audio of the Sheriffs Dept and I haven't heard anything from the search teams. Do you think they are just stopping for the night, or are they done searching? Anyone know what's going on?

In the Amber Dubois case there are several witnesses that saw Amber walking beside a male - do you think those witnesses would be able to identify him? Or did he ever own or use a red truck?

He's an official suspect in not one, but two possible murders. Surprising how confident LE sounds for something like this to get out to the news, and the FBI was involved.

Woe to John Albert Gardner III. This arrest has turned huge already.

If I am not mistaken, the red truck has been identified and cleared. I will try and find a link for that in the morning.

Sorry I used to live in Westwood and I am trying to figure this out in my head. Honestly, I just still can't believe it! Even if what you suggest is a possibility that means he would have had to transport her all the way from back behind the houses to Poblado which has to be at the very least a quarter to a half mile, not to mention in BROAD DAYLIGHT when all the kids from the elementary school are getting out. This person was a ghost, and poor Chelsea, just needed one person to see.

I'm meaning if he did something earlier, then later in the evening he could have moved her out at the Poblado (or any other) access point to a vehicle or something.

I would guess by the time she got out there it was 3:30 ish, having run some closer trails, etc. and that would put it past school traffic time, yet at the same time, locals would either be at work or carting kids around to practice or whatever. Then if he returned around dinner time, that'd be right around when her folks were alerting authorities, so things would be occurring at the park end NOT the neighborhood end yet. Hop on the freeway, perhaps and head to Elsinore, and then he's out of the area maybe overnight (explaining the interest in the shed) and then he comes back. Or something along those lines...that's the only way I can see it working. Unless he left her in the water somewhere. I truly can't see her still being on land in the area. I'd guess she'd have to be in water or else out of the immediate area or she'd have been found.

I'm just guessing the Poblado area somehow is key based on the numbers of searchers and LEO over there, the fact that we know it factored in in the first instance, and that the water areas over there were heavily searched two days in a row.

Seems like there are a lot of addresses for the suspect. Maybe that's why they are searching "several areas".

Can someone link me to article that said he had mud up to his knees? They found him like that in the restaurant? He denied all charges?

Do the parents know about the charges?

sigh, scary and just really really sad. I can't even sleep. Just praying and watching for any breaking news.

I'm still clinging to the idea that he has never been convicted of killing anyone, and maybe just maybe Chelsea is still alive. I pray LE gets it out of him. Does he have an attorney already?

Im sorry but this guy didnt just start being a sexual offender. Often these types offend alot before they are ever caught or charged and identified. Many victims dont come forward. Also, he must of felt very comfortable to be able to pull this off in broad daylight...brazen...in my opinion. If it is found that Chelsea has been murdered which I think is the next thing we will hear that her body has been recovered I can say with conviction that this was not this offenders first rodeo. Usually these offenders start out adding violence and it escalates ...so Amber may have been his first victim. He may of thought it was easy prey as noone was ever charged for her dissappearance and he felt even more confident that he was not discovered. Had these parents of not been ontop of their game with their daughter we might never of known what happened and this would of been just another missing teen that you read about and soon forget. All the while this perpetrator would be lurking in your parks, schools, and social areas where children can be found looking for his next victim. I dont like what happened to Chelsea but I am glad that this guy is off the streets. I know that Chelseas parents are holding onto hope and for that reason alone I support them and offer my hope that a miracle occurs for them and that they can once again hold their daughter.

There are several streets floating around, the only one I've seen on a news source so far is where he was arrested. If you link me which one you'd like to see in relation to it, though, I'm happy to show it.

I posted that in regards to his parent's street address and the name of the street the house is on being reported all over the news....

I dont think he had to have a truck...it was already stated he had an automotive repair he could of drove anyones vehicle.

I was just standing in front of the moms house in westwood for around an hour. They had the street blocked off by yellow police tape. We watched detectives remove some boxes and bags from the house, and then they basically took down the tape and started leaving. There was alot of unmarked vehicles, one news van, a photographer, and a few cop cars. The photographer mentioned that they likely have this guy tied to two other cases but didnt say which ones. Just discovered this site today and thought I would report what I saw.

Ok, I finally found it in print in a news source so I feel like it can be posted here definitively:

"Investigators were searching a home on Matinal Road near West Bernardo Drive late Sunday night, according to KGTV Channel 10. Public records link an address on that street to Gardner."

Sign on San Diego/Union-Tribune

The home is near Westwood Elementary, on a canyon area that connects through the canyon right over to Poblado RIGHT at the access point where all of the activity has been.

Meaning he can cut behind the home, on the trail from the school to Poblado between Moon Song and Smokesignal, just cross the street, and continue on the trail directly to the waterfall area I was showing in my photos earlier. Also, that access point on Poblado is where all the LEO and searchers were staging earlier. Plus, that's where the first attack happened.

In addition, he'd just have to go around the corner, make two quick turns, and could be right at the access point if he went by car.

I won't give the house address, but if you google map Westwood Elementary, 92127 and look at the canyon area arcoss the street you'll see what I mean.

Wow, I am amazed by the fact that he had the ability to travel to the trail undetected as well as the fact that a SO lived (or visited his parents) so close to an elementary school! That is a huge red flag!

  • #536
Ok, here's a newer map. I won't pin to whereabouts the house is exactly, but I'll pinpoint the elementary school as that's near enough. It's got a yellow thumb tack at Westood Elementary.

Then, I drew an orange line on the trail that runs straight through to the Poblado access point. As you can see, it's an easy shot across, and it's below apartment condos on one side and townhomes on the other, and that particular area has a lot of trees, so it's more obstructed.

Then he'd be right at the yellow $ sign I used for the original attack, plus the staging area today, and then the green circle where the waterfall area is.

That trail to Poblado from the home by the school is not a long distance at all... truly just a matter of minutes to get there, and then minutes more to get in to the waterfall area and that main Piedras trail there.

Love how you are able to pinpoint things for us, TravelingBug. Thank You.

I tried googling and street viewing the area, but got alittle lost. It didn't look as easy as you describe. What do you think about him taking Chelsea someplace else then?

  • #538
Have they confirmed he had a car or anything? I found on the facebook page for Chelsea that someone had seen a man that looked like Gardner on the Mt Hoodson, think they mean mt hoodson near Lake Poway (See Chelsea Johnsons comment)? There really isn't any way he could've walked over there from the park/lake if it was him so I wonder if he has been traveling by car and if the LE discovered it?

Going to have a hard time sleeping tonight. There's still hope.

I think it is time to urge everyone to start checking out the National Sex Offenders site for your zip code areas. Find out who is living near you and your children.
