I am so sorry for this beautiful young woman's family. How awful.

IMO, we have got to stop being stupid about sex crimes. We cast our net too widely and as a result, we have to wade through a giant pool of relatively harmless fish to find the poisonous eel. We have too many SOs in confinement and too many RSOs in the registries, and too many of them are non-violent and non-predatory. That fills our prisons beyond capacity and contributes to early releases, makes the SOs who are an actual threat to society more difficult to track, and makes the entire RSO system less powerful.

IMO, the societal problem with JAG's prior offense is not really a 20 year old interested in a 13 year old. That sort of thing happens every day and in many cases there is no issue, as young man and young lady date uneventfully. The problem is that JAG was violent. Yet, the RSO system often doesn't readily distinguish between (a) violent, predatory JAG and (b) romantic young Romeo turned in to the cops by Juliet's pissed off daddy and convicted of statutory rape.

Having to wade through all the Romeos and even the non-predatory incestuous offenders to find monsters like JAG drags down the system. It keeps LE from being able to concentrate its efforts where they are needed. It makes it hard for the public to gauge danger. It's time for an overhaul. Some states are already taking steps, and I hope that all will follow.

I disagree - 20 year old and 13 year old is a problem. the line is very clear - 18 and 16 the line gets blurry.

Chester stiles maintains he wasn't "violent" with the then three year old, he said something along the lines that "it wasn't something she even remembered" 13 year olds are not mature enough in our society to know the consequences even if they consent to sex with a 20 year old.

Of course this situation there was no consent at all -

I really think he has something to do with Amber - I then think the Escondido police lapsed big time. I don't think they ever were serious enough in their search.

One thing that was pointed out on Nancy's show tonight is the resemblence between Amber & Chelsea, and even their moms look similar. I too am suspicious of the same perp possibly being involved in both cases with the timing almost exactly one year apart. MOO

These cases are really getting to me. I don't think any case ever bother me as much as Shaniya Davis (it was really intense), but Chelsea has hit hard. I am so effing sick of this crap. Hanging out on this forum exposes you to a level of evil that most folks either don't know exists or turn their backs to. I'm just grateful that there are others - all of you - that are willing to go to that place, to be willing to know 'what's out there'. It's the only way it will stop! If people keep pushing it under the rug, then it will stay there.

Earlier, on another thread, someone mentioned JonBenet and someone else replied, "They've never heard of JonBenet". I totally agree: while we live/breathe these cases, most people aren't interested at all. It's a story on the news (if that) and then it's gone.

There have been too many to count that have hit me hard. The latest one that has been very difficult was Morgan although I follow many cases. So senseless and I hope Morgan's killer/killers will be brought to justice as Chelsea's will be. We have to make this happen and we have to keep our children safe. There is nothing more important than your kids, absolutely nothing!
I'm here because I want to know the bad things that can happen in this world and because I want to keep myself and my kids safe. I'm more careful than ever in my everyday life and I think of what could happen in every move I make while out and about. I'm always conscious of my surroundings and making sure not to put myself in a vulnerable position. I have learned so much form WS and for that I have you all to thank. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart! My Mother used to say I was gullible, I am proud to say I am not any longer!
We need to educate our youth to these things that can happen every chance we get. I use facebook as an outlet for that and have posted about these cases they can relate to. I've posted safety tips and how to fight back, what to do when you're in an uncomfortable position or in trouble etc. Maybe they will think of me and remember those things if they are ever put in that position.

IF he is connected to Amber's disappearance, is it possible that he could've gone back to the site where he put Amber and moved her body/hid it even further knowing that cops could potentially connect him to Ambers case as well?

I'm just thinking, before he was arrested, he had to have seen the media reports saying that the person responsible for Chelsea's disappearance could also have been responsible for Ambers and he panicked.

This could explain the muddy/damp clothing on him when he was arrested.

I have been thinking the same thing. Will be interesting to see how things unfold in this case. Unfortunately, he was probably also very familiar with the Ortega Highway which originated in Lake Elsinore (very close to his grandmother's residence where he supposedly lived) and is a very desolate place. A body could easily be lost forever in that area.

Then why were his pants wet & muddy when he was arrested? He supposedly lives close by - maybe he was with some searches. I'm really hypothesizing - wasn't at the searches.

Many perps go back to the scene of the crime. On Sunday searchers/volunteers were being turned away. If he did get in, he would have to sign in (sure, he could have used a false name) -- but I guarantee you unless he was a Ninja, could he have passed LE and the search command post without being seen. Especially if he was in the water (most in the water had those waterproof suits on anyway -- at least that's what I saw on the tele).

Is it possible that he got in - maybe -- but unlikely. He'd have to be absolutely batty to think he could get to her body after 6PM on Thursday, when LE and searchers came out in droves. More stupid to be seen where the crime was committed.

IMHO Chelsea had an angel looking over her and made sure this was caught. The parents quick action certainly helped as well. He had little time, and I think the shallow grave was more like debris piled atop of her (IMHO).

There is no happy ending here. Only that Westerfield and Peterson will soon have a new roommate at San Quentin State Prison where California puts the worst of the worst.

I'm just so tired of yelling to the heaven's that the laws need to change. We have Amber alerts, Megan's Law, the Jessica Lunsford Act, and nothing has really changed - in fact it seems to be escalating.

Kinda like restraining orders - had a cop tell me once that unless its written on kevlar and you wear it under your clothes, the perp can get to you. Here in FL the perps literally have 3 chances at you even with a restraining order.

No more ineffective laws - we need justice!

He was arrested on the other side of the lake, about a 10 minute drive on car because of the way you have to go to get there.

It was the north side at a restaurant called Hernandez Hideaway.
