The trial of Mario Garcia will enter its final, emotional phase today. He is scheduled to be sentenced this afternoon for the murder of Christie Wilson.

Placer County Superior Court Judge Larry Gaddis will hand down the sentence in Auburn after listening to a series of victim-impact statements this afternoon.

Placer County Superior Court Judge Larry Gaddis handed down the sentence in Auburn after listening to victim-impact statements Thursday afternoon.

Garcia will get credit for the 455 days he has served in jail since he was arrested.

Convicted killer Mario Garcia, of Auburn, kept a "souvenir" from one of his past victims.

Garcia, who has been convicted of murdering Christie Wilson, 27, in 2005 was sentenced Friday to 59 years in prison for first-degree murder.

Officials report that at the time of his arrest, initially on a weapons charge, Oct. 14, 2005, he was in possession of an antique woman's watch.

"It was in his pocket and he tried to give the watch to a family member," said Detective Don Murchison, of the Placer County Sheriff's Office, who investigated the Garcia case.

Officials later determined that the watch belonged to Wendy Ward who said she was raped by Garcia Jan. 12, 1979.

Garcia is one sick ..... to sit there in court and say that he doesn't have a bad bone in his body and that for 28 years he was a good husband, father, and coach. What a piece of crap he is!!! I hope he gets his in prison...I really do!
