Guess I should have said for the day. That's what I meant. For the day. Not entirely. They plan on continuing tomorrow. They just felt with the weather as it was and not having helicopter support, it would be too dangerous to continue the search after dark.
According to the scanner stuff downstairs, they were continuing their search this evening. Sorry...got the upstairs/downstairs thing confused.

Up until now, I have believed he was off the mountain and hiding in another area. But hearing about the broken axle is a game changer for me. If he really set fire to 30 weapons---that was not something he wanted to do just yet. He hasn't even checked off anyone on his hit list.

I think he underestimated the roughness of back roads he was traveling on---and he had to scramble to deal with that broken axle. And so now he is caught up in a very cold, uncomfortable and dangerous situation. He is running around, breaking into empty cabins, hiding as well as he can. But that won't be possible forever. His only chance will be to try and carjack someone to hold as a hostage and drive him out of there, imo. But that will be tricky.

Has it been reported anywhere that there were burned weapons in the vehicle? Just curious if this was a fact, or a guesstimation?

IA. He lit his truck on fire and it called attention to it. I think he took off out of there right after. It would be stupid to have done that, then stayed. There are only 3 ways in and out of there. Hwy 18, Hwy 330 and Hwy 38. Of course, LE would have roadblocks and check all out going vehicles. So he would be trapped up there with no way to get out if he didn't get out before they found out he was up there.
there are only three paved roads out of the valley but also many unpaved roads. he abandoned the truck where a neighborhood road morphs into a forestry road leading down the south side of the mountain, where he would pick up 38 going to Yucaipa/Mentone/Redlands and then the freeway

Well, no matter how much training he has, or how many weapons he's cached, he's alone, w/no backup-he'll get caught eventually, & w/ any luck, they'll take him down, w/ minimal losses...sorry, no sympathy for him...

IMO the only way he is still there is if he killed himself..and I really don't think he did that...yet!

Does everyone still have the feeling he is on his own? Does anyone think he might have someone helping him, picked him up, allowing him to lay low at their place at this point??? IMHO

I'm really not inclined to believe the shoulder launcher story until it is actually seen and verified. That is not the easiest weapon on the world to get, even for someone ex-military. The media just seems to be jumping and trying to get a scoop first and while I am sure he has some heavy duty weapons (assault type I can easily believe, since those are easy to get if one knows where to look), but a shoulder rocket launcher? Not buying it.

OMG. Surely he didn't try to carry the shoulder-fired missile launcher once his truck was disabled.

Does anyone know what a shoulder-fired missile launcher could destroy? A large building like a police station?

I see him more as a suicide by cop type. I do not want to be one of the ones that comes across him...if they come across him. I say if because ones such as Eric Rudolph can have the ability to evade LE for years. He may, or may not, be like one of them.

Actually its more anti aircraft, could take down a plane or helicopter for sure... I truly hope he did not manage to get his hands on one. I am thinking not. I am hoping not....IMHO

That story came out the same time as the ex-girlfriend's statements. Maybe she told this to LE? If so, I hope she was wrong.

They didn't make it up. In his manifesto, he implies he has SA-7 Manpads.

It has nothing to do with his ex-gf. He claims in his manifesto he has SA-7 Manpads. Which are man-portable air-defense systems.

I don't think anyone is helping him. Unless he got himself a new g/f, he seems to be estranged from his family (for which he also seems to blame LAPD).

Yes, it was reported upstream here somewhere. I will try and find it and link to it.

ETA; Jax linked it below. I thought I had read he burned 30 weapons, but I guess not. He burned sOME weapons, but may have 30 of them .

How is he carrying around 3o weapons w/out vehicle?

“I will bring unconventional and asymmetrical warfare” to Los Angeles Police Department officers, on or off duty, said the manifesto.

Is that referring to a missile?

Seems like if LAPD would have caused this family issue he would have talked more about it and also given his goodbyes to them in the manifesto like he did everyone else. He told friends bye and he gave shout outs to people in the public eye yet no bye mom I love you. Seems like those family issues run way deeper then LAPD.

I heard about the SAMs yesterday morning on the radio, and have posted about it. And his manifesto talks about "manpads."

Here is some reading about "manpads."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man-portable_air-defense_systems

Grammys will be this weekend here in the heart of Los Angeles. While a manpad may not take down the building, one shot into the Grammys location would be devastating. And it would be on live.

Please God, I pray I'm wrong...but I don't know that I am.

Katy, in regards to your "game changing" thought about the axel being broken...I'm wondering if that was where he put any explosive device which lit the car on fire...seems like he'd be the kind to do that, yanno?

Just not at all sure what's going on. Some chatter about tracks and scent, but I don't know if the scent is 'fresh' or day-old.

Hm.

All I know is that it's nighttime again, and I know the cops are sooooo very much on edge. I pray they all come home to a nice warm house...safe and sound.

(And I wanted to clear up an earlier remark...just because I know there is corruption in the LAPD does NOT mean I don't respect what they do, and how difficult the job is...and that most officers are not corrupt, imho. Just some. But I support LE from whatever division/department).
