(snip)

Sounds like Torres-Stallings has information, but it's just too hard to find in that big ole discovery dump ...
I smell a delay coming on.
I know it's important for the wheels of justice to move properly and stay on the track and stop for oil changes and to pick up steam and drop off presents and shovel coal....

But sometimes I just want the darn show to start so the guilties can just shuffle off to prison already.

Calling it now ... the trial is going to be delayed.

The only "defense" for guilty clients. Stall as long as possible. I see mental status exams for both soon, and the defendants will want new representation, on and on...the record so far must be for Jorge Barahona, who has stalled his trial for over a decade. Longer than his victim was alive. Another adopted child, Nubia Barahona.

So sad. I also include JJ Vallow, as yet another adopted child, killed by a parent. Troy Koehler, found dead in a washing machine. Killed by adoptive parent.

But WHERE ARE THE BOYS?

Being adopted is supposed to be the best thing to happen to kids growing up in less-than-ideal situations; so to me that makes it all the more heart breaking when they are abused or neglected or killed by adoptive parents.

I understand why California took the boys away from their biological parents, but being adopted was just from-frying-pan-to-fire for them.

We have to do better.

According to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, something went awry three months before the boys' adoptive parents reported in December 2020 that the brothers went missing from their California City home. Kern County grand jurors heard prosecutors question more than 50 witnesses, which led them last year to indict adoptive parents Trezell and Jacqueline West. They were charged with murder and other crimes in the deaths of Orrin and Orson West.

Orrin was removed from his parents' care in 2016 and Orson was taken away in 2017 after Kern Child Protective Services accused the boys' biological parents of abuse, according to a federal civil lawsuit filed on behalf of mother Ryan Dean against the Kern County DHS. While Dean visited her boys cared for by Trezell and Jacqueline West, she noticed signs of abuse, according to the federal lawsuit.

An email to The Californian from DHS senior paralegal Etta Sharp said a gag order implemented by a Kern County Superior Court judge in the Wests’ criminal case sealed records, including documents that “may be in our agency’s possession.”

I haven't read the threads here, but my understanding is:

They killed the boys some time in September, but continued collecting money for their care. I think they needed it to make the payments on the new house in California City, and figured no one there would know they were missing. It probably would've worked, except the bio family was in the area, and was going to start asking where they were if they didn't see them with the rest of the family.

The bio family was not in Cal City. They were in Bakersfield and had already been cut off from the boys. I don't know for sure but the adoptive grandparents may have been asking questions.

Yes, Christmas was going to bust open the scam, and the missing children. The Wests couldn't think of a plausible excuse for Orrin and Orson to be absent. I think that they had plans to see family for Christmas.

I am interested in Thanksgiving, where were they? Did they see family then? Probably not.

The trial should be interesting.

Such mixed feelings -- I want the truth, I want justice for the two rambunctious boys -- and I want peace & privacy & healing for their older brothers....

Sigh.

And all are child victims of their parents (bio, step, adopted) allegedly.

This trial is going to be sad, I wonder what type of defense they will go with...sticking to the story that the boys just "disappeared"?

Tuesday, attorneys for Trezell and Jacqueline West both confirmed witnesses from the Department of Human Services they want to bring back Wednesday.

Timothy Hennessy, Trezell's attorney, said he filed an affidavit request from the Department of Human Services, which he expects to be ready by Monday.

The judge said after the media and the public left he and the attorneys were going to speak on different issues.

Tomorrow morning, the judge and the attorneys will go over a Trombetta Motion. A Trombetta Motion is when an attorney files a request the judge dismiss the case, because evidence has been destroyed or lost.

That will not be open to the public, but the ruling on it will be.

Trombetta - Too-Bada ... not going to happen (I Hope)!!!

I cannot believe, or stomach, that the other children will likely have to testify.

An additional travesty for them imho.
