Found Deceased CA - Crystal McCarthy, 37, belongings found under a bridge, Napa, 13 Dec 2021

Thanks, that's helpful. She was seen by where she lives and then at a supermarket nearby and the boots, umbrella, empty tent bag were found under the bridge. It seems likely that she was taking supplies and food to her homeless friend to me. This is MOO
I wonder if she was wearing the boots when she was seen at the supermarket?

Crystal McCarthy Missing: Searches for Napa Woman | Heavy.com
[...]

“The detectives and many friends have been endlessly searching the Napa area for her. Her boots and umbrella were found by the Napa River but no further evidence was found. Please Please continue to pray that our beautiful daughter Crystal Lea McCarthy comes home.”

There is a Facebook page devoted to helping find McCarthy. “Please if you’re local, we will be setting up a search party, reach out to me if you can help look…I know we will need to walk the homeless encampments in Napa, so we definitely need some boots on the ground…” the page says.

[...]

Co-workers are also helping with the search.

Blue Note Napa wrote on Facebook, “Napa community, we are still searching for Crystal, one of our Blue Note Napa team, please keep your eyes open around town and contact the police if you have any information.”

Why haven't we heard more about water searches? Or maybe I just missed that part of the story.

Authorities ply waters of Napa River as search for Crystal McCarthy continues
The search took place from about 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and involved a Napa County Sheriff’s Office boat patrol under Napa Police’s direction, according to police Sgt. Garrett Smith. No signs were found of the 37-year-old McCarthy, who police said was last heard from on the night of Dec. 13 during a major Bay Area rainstorm.

This is all I read about it. ( bringing from previous post). Shocking they spent only 2 hours searching in water that was in the middle of an area that had a bad rain storm. IMO
Editing. Sounds like only 1 boat too! UGH

I wonder if the homeless friend is missing too, since the items were still there? Moo.
Hmmm, good question, @GoneGoldfishin' --

I have to SMH now that LE may be looking for her body in the river. No way she could last too long in the river, even though it's in Napa. The river water is bound to be cold, even there in Napa. It was dark, and she was wearing regular clothes, I assume.
Hoping this is not the case, but certainly LE has to investigate the possibility. SMH.
I'm guessing that Crystal had been taking food leftovers from her job and maybe other things to the homeless woman she had befriended, and this is where she may have been that night. It seems to me that she has/had a generous soul. It's a sad mystery at this time.

IMHO, while I realise that LE has to investigate the possibility, they should have done it sooner.

Very good question! I'm hoping they have camera's that could answer that question. If she was wearing the boots, then I am perplexed.

New search effort for Crystal McCarthy announced for Wednesday along Napa River

With the search for Crystal Lea McCarthy now in its second week, friends and relatives of the 37-year-old Napa woman missing since Dec. 13 are preparing another extension of their efforts to find her.

Searchers allied with the Facebook group Find Crystal Lea McCarthy announced a new search for Wednesday afternoon, in an area south of where she was reportedly last seen. Volunteers will meet at 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Century Napa Valley movie theater at 195 Gasser Drive before beginning their search at noon, according to a notice posted by the group Tuesday.

McCarthy was reported missing on the morning of Dec. 14. Missing-person handbills state she was last seen at about 9 p.m. Dec. 13 on the Napa River Trail between Lincoln Avenue and Trancas Street, at the tail end of a heavy two-day rainstorm that dumped about 4 inches and more on much of the Napa Valley.

Search efforts since her disappearance have included walks of the Napa River banks by detectives, a California Highway Patrol search Dec. 16, and a Napa County Sheriff’s Office boat search Sunday from Kennedy Park north to downtown.

"According to Sgt. Pete Piersig, McCarthy was observed at about 10:34 p.m. on a security video at a nearby 7-Eleven store, with a homeless man who had recently been released from jail. She was seen in the video purchasing alcohol, a detail Piersig said was consistent with what her boyfriend Wright believed she was doing, Piersig said in an email about the encounter."

Everyone is going to be suspicious of the homeless guy, but unless he shoved her in the river, I don't see him having means to harm her and cover it up. JMO

I don't think that. I'm wondering if maybe she was drinking under the bridge and that contributed to her falling in the river.

That's what I'm thinking as well. I wonder when her unhoused friends saw her last. Certainly LE have to know more than we do.

DBM - I had originally posted regarding them living at the River Point as that is the address block they gave and it was right by the trail however I found their actual home and it is not in the River Point community.

I know she didn't have a car but did the roommate not either? It just seems odd in a storm that you would walk, even if a short distance. Now knowing where they live it would have been a half a mile full walk there and back in this storm. The last communication was with the roommate a little before 9 and then her last seen whereabouts originally were reported as being on the trail at 9. Now we know her last sighting was buying alcohol at the 7-Eleven with a homeless man recently released from prison at 10:34 so where was she and what was she doing for that hour and the half time period in between?

You can also see on Google Maps when you go to the street view that if she was walking back home going west over the bridge that the people in this photo are going the same way across. She was not very tall so it seems somewhat hard for me to believe she fell off the bridge after seeing how it goes up in perspective of these two people in the photo. You would have to purposely climb and jump or be thrown but I don't see how you could just accidentally fall off especially at her height. I am also very suspect of the homeless man she was with, not because he was homeless but simply because he was recently let out of prison and we do not know what he was in there for but if her last sighting is with him this would certainly be a concern.

I find a few things perplexing here. Assuming that they lived in the River Point as that is the address that was given, it appears that they only have studio and one-bedroom "cottages". This place does not look like somewhere you rent and they call themselves a resort on the website that has booking features for your vacation. Right now the going rate for January for the one-bedroom would be a total of over $4k to stay there for the month and this is for 400 sqft. I wonder how long they had been living there. One Bedroom | Coronado Beach Resort

If the roommate spoke with her right before 9 while asking about an umbrella, left the home and then her food was delivered at 10:30 and the roommate is saying she thought she was in her room if they only have one-bedroom units and the roommate thought she was in that bedroom that means the roommate would have been in the main room so she would have obviously not seen or heard her come back in ever. 400 sqft is so small you would think even if the roommate was hypothetically in the bathroom and not in the main room for the duration of the time she was gone that the roommate certainly would have at least heard her re-enter their residence.

I know she didn't have a car but did the roommate not either? It just seems odd in a storm that you would walk, even if a short distance. Depending on where they lived in the resort area it would have been a half a mile to almost mile full walk there and back in this storm. If the last communication was with the roommate a little before 9 and then her last seen whereabouts originally were reported as being on the trail at 9 but now we know her last sighting was buying alcohol at the 7-Eleven with a homeless man recently released from prison at 10:34 - where was she and what was she doing for that hour and the half time period in between?

Napa PD FB page just released the last known photo of her. I can't tell if those are boots on her feet.
