CA - Dr. Han, wife & 5yo daughter brutally slain, Santa Barbara, 23 March 2016

Additional defense witness for Monday, 11/22: Defense’s expert witness, Dr. Brent Turvey, which took most of the day. Turvey, a forensic scientist who joined the trial via Zoom from Aguascalientes, Mexico, specializes in crime scene reconstruction & investigation science & was called up to testify in opposition to the prosecution’s ballistic expert Dave Barber, who matched casings found at the scene to the Ruger .22 pistol found in Haobsh’s car when he was arrested. According to Turvey, who cited a report that was criticized by the FBI & the Department of Justice, the current methodology used to examine & make a ballistics match is not accurate enough to scientifically call for “match.”
11/23/21 Tuesday, Trial Day 12: Defense witnesses: Pierre Haobsh. No other info available. Trial continues on 11/24/21.

Triple-Murder Suspect Pierre Haobsh Gives His Account of Days Leading to Han Family Murders

Nov. 23, 2021
Pierre Haobsh's triple-murder trial continued Tuesday in Santa Barbara County Superior Court, where the defendant gave a fantastical account of what he says happened in the days leading up to the murders of the Han family near Goleta.
[.....]
During his rambling testimony, Haobsh discussed the several companies he was involved in from 2012 through 2016.
[.....]
Haobsh ultimately left Revolutionary Energy Machines in 2014, and he said there was some “bad blood” between him and most of the other partners.

He did, however, continue to work with Lawrence Tang, who Haobsh described as a “Chinese billionaire.”

Haobsh testified that Tang wanted Haobsh to work with him directly in China. A trip to China appeared to be all set up with a letter to visit China, with traveling expenses covered by a company called Revenco. However, according to Haobsh, he didn’t end up going to China because the U.S. Department of Energy got involved when Tang and Haobsh were arranging to export the energy equipment.

Haobsh testified that the Department of Energy said it was a “direct threat to national security,” and required Haobsh to stay in the United States and cease work on the energy project.
[.....]
He also said that at one point, the Department of Energy offered him a buyout of about $940 million, but there were strings attached. According to Haobsh, if he didn’t do what they wanted, they could prosecute him in federal court, as he said they set it up to look like Haobsh was involved in treasonous activity.

“They wanted to have means to blackmail me or control me,” Haobsh said.

Haobsh's attorney, public defender Christine Voss, then presented a video Haobsh had taken of his online Chase bank account that appeared to have more than $940 million.
[.....]
[you will have to read this next account of him shooting 3 individuals in a motel room]
Haobsh testified that he was wearing body armor that he got from a past business associate, as he was concerned for his safety. He also said he suspected the people were hit squads from the Department of Energy, and he tried to contact the FBI, although he said he doesn’t think they believed him.
[.....]
When prosecutors began cross examining Haobsh, Supervising Deputy District Attorney Benjamin Ladinig began picking apart Haobsh's story, and asking about the multiple friends and family members who told investigators they did not trust him.

“Mr. Haobsh, do you believe anyone’s going to believe that nonsense?” Ladinig said. “Have you ever been called a bullshitter? How about a con artist?”

According to Ladinig, Haobsh’s sister told investigators that Haobsh was “a liar and a manipulator,” and his friend John Morgans said he would “rather trust a rattlesnake” than Haobsh.

“Who killed the Han family, then, if it wasn’t you?” Ladinig asked Haobsh.

The bench trial, which is being heard by Judge Brian Hill, is scheduled to continue with more testimony from Haobsh on Wednesday morning.

boy - what a story!!??!! o_O

Here's another article regarding his testimony. This man is cuckoo for Co-Co Puffs.
Haobsh Spins a Story on the Stand - The Santa Barbara Independent

As his attorney Christine Voss asked questions, Haobsh talked about his life in great detail. He described being a bodybuilder who ate every three hours, day and night, and whose physique attracted women at the beach when he doffed his shirt and lounged in a Speedo. He described close calls he’d had, as when five or six DOE operatives broke into his bedroom in Arizona. He reached for his Sig Sauer, and he killed them all, he said. Yes, he’d bought plastic sheeting at Home Depot, but it was to use as drop cloth for when he painted an energy machine for Henry Han. That’s why the sheeting and the duct tape used to hide the bodies had his fingerprints on them, he said.

To account for the entry of the Han home address into his car’s mapping system on the morning of the murder, Haobsh first described how two people in “crotch rocket attire” had fired a rifle at him in the parking lot of the iHop in Noleta. It happened to be a location that placed the Han house between him and a cell tower that pinged his location as he drove “nonstop” in fright, trying to figure out who was trying to kill him. In so doing, he accidentally “brushed” a button that gave the location of the Han’s home, he said.

Okay - now the Judge will think this guy is crazy!! I hope not - what a tale he can tell!! Amazing...

boy - what a story!!??!! o_O
 He can tell his ridiculous stories in prison for the rest of his life. He killed a five yr. old little girl and her innocent parents.
According to Ladinig, Haobsh’s sister told investigators that Haobsh was “a liar and a manipulator,” and his friend John Morgans said he would “rather trust a rattlesnake” than Haobsh.
MOO, I followed some of his sister's blog and she sounded a lot more sane and rooted in reality than he does. I believe her opinion of her own brother-- liar, manipulator, and I'll add killer. She had a child about the same age at the time, and it probably terrified her  to know that her brother was capable of killing a little girl.

Again JMO, I'm seething that he's allowed to speak such BS. He sure thinks highly of himself. In his imagination, he's actually good looking! o_O LOL, so funny. I feel like he got some of his stories from a hero / spy comic book. Cuckoo, but absolutely guilty of the crime of murdering three human beings out of greed. No way to spin it where he's innocent, he's a cold-blooded murderer.

I guess it depends on if the Judge believes ridiculous, far-fetched tales and is willing to overlook the senseless killing of three vital human beings beloved in their community. Waited a long time for this verdict... don't let us down now, Judge. Please let's see Justice.

Judge Hill found Pierre Haobsh Guilty.

Pierre Haobsh Convicted on All Charges in 2016 Han Family Triple Murders | Local News - Noozhawk.com BBM
November 24, 2021 | 4:32 p.m.

After a nearly 4-week-long trial, Pierre Haobsh was found guilty on all charges Wednesday afternoon in the 2016 triple murders of the Han family.

“I have no doubt, not even a shadow of doubt, of [Haobsh’s] guilt,” Superior Court Judge Brian Hill said at the conclusion of the trial.

Because Haobsh, 31, of Oceanside waived his right to a jury trial in the case, the "bench trial" was conducted before Hill, who had the responsibility of deciding Haobsh's guilt or innocence.

[...]

The prosecution presented dozens of text messages from Haobsh's phone that show him telling people he was in China, when he did not actually go to China, and telling his friends and family that he was dying of cancer and had "one year max to live."

Haobsh admitted he was never diagnosed with cancer by anyone.

"Now you go lying about being a billionaire, lying about going to China, and lying about having cancer," Ladinig said. "You're just a lying liar who lies about lying."

Bank statements from Haobsh's Chase bank account in 2015 and 2016 showed balances of zero and even -$143.57. These were from the same time period that Haobsh was telling people he had millions of dollars.

[...]

Haobsh, who has remained in custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail since he was arrested days after the killings, is scheduled to be sentenced at 9 a.m. on Jan. 24, 2022.

Haobsh agreed to the bench trial rather than a jury trial in exchange for prosecutors agreeing not to pursue the death penalty.

With his conviction, Haobsh faces a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Very thankful for the verdict of Guilty on all counts. One of his victims was just 5 yrs. old and had her whole life ahead of her. It's more than wrong what he did. Heartless. Dr, Han helped many people in his lifetime. Dr. and Mrs. Han were planning good things, were assets to the community, and had bright futures. Please, Haobsh needs to be kept away from society on the outside and never be allowed out. He's a danger to society. Hopefully, Haobsh will get Life Without any possibly of Parole. We'll see on January 24, 2022.

Thank You @Niner. Wondering what a "firearm compliance review" is in relation to his sentencing? What will it matter? Come on Judge, just say LWOP.

Got an alert on what happened yesterday....

Sentencing Delayed for Pierre Haobsh, Convicted of 2016 Han Family Murders

Jan. 24, 2022

Pierre Haobsh, who was convicted last November for the 2016 triple murders of the Han family, appeared in Santa Barbara Superior Court Monday afternoon as the court discussed whether Haobsh would be appointed new counsel.

Haobsh, 32, of Oceanside, has requested to make a motion for a new trial on the basis of ineffective assistance of counsel, and public defenders Christine Voss and Michael Hanley said that they intend to declare a conflict, stating that they “cannot fairly and objectively assess (their) own trial performance.”

With this conflict, the public defenders said they believe they should be relieved from the case.

Voss has represented Haobsh since he was charged in 2016, and Hanley joined the case later.

With this conflict, the public defenders said they believe they should be relieved from the case.

Voss has represented Haobsh since he was charged in 2016, and Hanley joined the case later.

Judge Brian Hill presided over a bench trial, without a jury, and found Haobsh guilty of all charges in November, including three counts of murder for killing Dr. Weidong “Henry” Han, 57, founder of Santa Barbara Herb Clinic; his wife, Huijie “Jennie” Yu, 29; and their 5-year-old daughter.

The Han family members were found slain and wrapped in plastic wrap in their garage on Greenhill Way near Goleta on March 23, 2016.

Haobsh’s sentencing was originally scheduled for Monday, but was postponed until it is determined if a new defense attorney needs to be appointed for the rest of the case.

According to Supervising Deputy District Attorney Benjamin Ladinig, Haobsh’s reasoning for the claim of ineffective assistance of counsel is the public defenders’ “failure to call two FBI agents to witness,” although Ladinig said that the agents would not have added anything to the case.

No decision was made in court on Monday, and Hill will continue the hearing at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 3, during which he will hear evidence and rule on whether to dismiss Voss and Hanley.

Sentencing was rescheduled for Feb. 28, however, Hill said the date may need to be postponed again.

  :(
