I can only imagine the torment she is going through and hope she has the support system she needs to get through it but I do disagree that substance abuse isn't child abuse.

I think there is no way anyone who is actively engaged in abusing a substance can provide appropriate care for a 6-month-old baby.

JMO

Oh no I in no way said that substance abuse was not child abuse. Substance abuse while being the sole caregiver for an infant is very much considered neglect by my state's standards as well as most others. This includes legal drugs as well as illegal.

I said that poverty was not abuse as many were questioning the lack of running water and housing situation.

I thought this is interesting. I wonder who the caller was... some people speculate it was MG. If it's not a hoax.
<video snipped for space>

If this is legit, way to mess with possible evidence guys. Seems like at least the reporter should know better.

ETA: I just realized I forgot to also say THANK YOU Pansen for sharing this video. I was so disturbed by it that slipped my mind at the time.

I wish msm would give us some info about any searches going on today. :(

Hi Cubby,
(edited per mod snip) I was trying to find out if any msm had reported that she didn't know.. I'm not blaming her just trying to understand the situation. I've learned a lot about addicts, more than I ever cared to know...my son in law is an addict, two time felon.
Karen

I will pray your SIL is able to recover. I'm not following any SM on this case, only WS and MSM.

I don't think JG fully understood the situation where it concerns MG's addiction. I know some active and recovered addicts. It wasn't until I went to outpatient treatment several years ago that I understood both my behavior and choices as well as my being very misinformed on what I then thought was recreational use. It's easy for me to see how someone as young as JG would not fully grasp an understanding on addiction.

She might've had some romantic notions about being like a pioneer, roughing it and working their way up and living happily ever after... anything to be with her 'man' -- 'love conquers all', etc.

ETA: I am so sorry for this indescribable pain and horror that she is suffering. I certainly wish her well.

I considered the romantic notions about roughing it and living off the grid too. I think it might have been a possibility, and it's also possible she might have seen moving in as an attempt to save him.

this is a tragic and sad ending for the famiies involved. I hope Ember is found some how :(

For those, like me, that are just checking in after being away from the computer for a few hours.

A man killed today after two separate exchanges of gun fire with law enforcement in Dunsmuir is believed to be Matthew Graham, the man called a "person of interest" in his 6-month-old daughter's disappearance.

Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey withheld the name of the person killed in the gun fire, saying investigators still seek a positive identification.

People living in unhealthy conditions because of poverty can receive economic assistance to help alleviate the condition such as pay the water bill so that it can be turned back on.

In this case, there seemed to be no water at all. Lack of running water and working toilets creates very unsanitary conditions. It is a matter of health and safety.

Does it really matter if she knew or didn't know? Poverty is not abuse. There are lots of individuals who abuse all kinds of substances but still love and care for their children appropriately. She did not ask for her child to be "missing" and while yes she may have not have made the smartest decision having a baby with this man I am confident that when she handed him the child to watch for the night she did not have any clue that something like this could happen. She may be young, naive and in love which many of us have been guilty of. Most of us were just lucky enough to not have that end in such tragedy. She deserves nothing but our condolences right now. Can you imagine the pain and guilt she is dealing with right now?

The baby should not have been there! JMO
I do not understand why she WAS there.

Oh my, it's over 10 minutes of non-stop talking, but briefly:

He's a reporter who got a phone tip from someone who saw someone on that bridge with a "bundle" in the middle of the night on "the night in question".

He walked 2 miles (?) down the creek, checking every nook and cranny.

Did he say how far that is from MG's trailer? If close, it could very well have happened. I think wherever she is was readily accessible to MG.

I totally get that and the appeal. However, I am not sure these living conditions were made as part of an attempt to live that lifestyle. I know we don't know a lot, but I know the raw sewage ran freely into a cesspool. No purposeful outhouse or composting toilet. I haven't heard mention of a garden or any other types of things that would suggest they were trying to live a self sustaining lifestyle.

I know poor people who raise their children with love. I am not trying to say that poor=bad. And, I am sorry if it came across like that. I just feel that there was more to it than that. And I don't blame JG at all... she is still virtually a child. I don't blame anyone but MG. I just wish there would have been someone to step in and save Ember, I guess.

Yes, it's right in the area where MG may have driven. One difference though, this tipster said his 'sighting' happened a 3 a.m., and he saw a man and a woman. It's certainly within the general areas that LE & others are searching.

This makes me want to throw up, and implicates more than just MG. The tipster said the woman looked him square in the eyes, and that she is the woman on the flyers.

The plot thickens....

Poor doesn't have to equal dirty. My grandparents were dirt poor in NYC, and still cleaned. His trailer was a hovel because he's a drug addict and a slob, not because he's poor. That's an insult to poor people. She allowed her baby there because she is young, and or ignorant of how to care for her child, not because she is poor. Sorry, no excuse to have a little baby with health issues there for even 10 minutes. Nobody can change my opinion of that. Also I hope so much that Mom wasn't involved in any way.
Prayers for baby Ember. Prayers to the families.

He said he can identify the woman!

Why would someone with such a useful tip call a reporter and not the number on the flyer he saw?
