]I don't see myself wanting to go hiking with my mother [/U]if I was that far along in my pregnancy. I would want to be finish shopping to have things all ready for the baby. Was she an outdoor enthusiast?

To my way of thinking, hiking and walking a trail, and gazing in the desert where i happen to live as a matter of fact is all pretty much the same.
I don't parse my words, and I'd not criticize another either for saying "hiking" vs "walking" because anything in this god-awful desert heat is a killer to begin with. It's not healthy in other words and seems to me living there, she'd already know this. It's always over 100degrees farenheit every day, going up all the way to 110 some days even in the shade. (on my porch) for example and it makes no difference either (heatstroke) if it's walking or hiking or skipping merrily along, anyone can get heat stroke in no time flat. Everyone who lives in the deserts, both Mojave or the Sonoran desert knows this as a matter of survival.

Seems too pissy to me to do so. :) But that's just me, and maybe I'm OLD now and don't realize the importance of word parsing any longer :twocents:

Post #1 on this thread said she was looking for a "campsite" and posts #17 and 18 say "hiking trails". My daughter and I walk. We walk on the track at the local school, and we walk up and down the streets in the neighborhood. We have and still do walk lots of places. Nobody could confuse what we do as hiking. Even though we walk into the woods and up small hills, we are not hiking we are walking. Unless Erin was a true hiker or camper, not sure why these terms were used. It always matters to me what words and terms are used when someone is missing. MOO

These, too, are observations/questions of mine...

However... I found it interesting that it is a military media source that reported the SIL found it concerning that the family wasn't alerted to Erin's disappearance until the next day... So I wonder if the military or the LE (or both) are trying to keep the information held in such tight rein...

But I have these questions:

- Is Military.com truly representative of the (military) government... Or is it a media source independent of the government...? :waitasec:

- The words of the SIL saying that they were concerned since they were not notified until a day after Erin's disappearance can be interpreted only that a day had already gone by... And the length of time in a missing person's case is of vital importance...(I.e.... The first 48 hours is crucial)

I hope this post makes sense... I haven't had a proper cup of coffee yet this morning...:coffeews:)

All... JMO

BBM: I KNEW there was something I had missed today - COFFEE! Thanks for reminding me! :smooch:

The military won't allow a marine (stationed on a base at home) whose wife disappeared to assist her mother with handling media interviews? When someone disappears, you should be counting down the time in hours. Whether it's 48 or a few more, time is running out. I don't think the people arguing that public attention is unnecessary are putting themselves in the situation (and maybe they would argue that's a good thing, lol). The police have said they are treating the case like a "missing persons" case, yet they've also called in homicide investigators. A Facebook page was set up to ask the entire world to comment, and the Admins there are almost at the predictable stage where they're deleting more comments than they're allowing ("We did NOT set up this Facebook page so you people could come here and COMMENT. We set it up to tell you NOT to comment. I almost wish we hadn't set it up at all! Your speculation is ruining it for everyone"). There's the same old debate between advocating total secrecy and REALLY asking (making?) everyone who saw Erin last to PUBLICLY lay out what they saw. I believe the latter option is the best way to find a missing person. If someone close to the missing person is not responsible, it's still the best way to establish a timeline. Someone on the "Locate Erin" page keeps mentioning the old "the police don't want to jeopardize the case" line. However, exactly what is the priority? I'd be looking for my loved one first, and right now I wouldn't be so worried about the integrity of the case.

RSBM.

It has never been the mission of LE in this case to rescue a living woman. From the very beginning, their main goal was to solve this case and not damage any evidence in pursuing that goal of solving this case. If their priority were to rescue her, they would have allowed volunteers to search and would have been open about where her car was found, any cell ping evidence, etc. They've never been trying to rescue her alive since she was first reported missing (or I guess since her car was found). So - that's the priority. Solve the case in such a way that it will play cleanly in a courtroom. IMHO.

The following is the basic Lay of the Land that I can derive from on line sources. (anyone with better info, please correct me)

29 Palms Marine Command Combat Center is a large area of desert in So California a 100 miles east of Los Angeles but most of the developed area is 3 miles north of the town of 29 Palms. The main entrance to the base is on Adobe Road which runs directly north from 29 Palms. 2 miles north of town, Condor Road branch off from Adobe, vers to the north-east and then realigns to the north again and enters the base at a second entrance gate. Adobe and Condor run parallel, about a 1/4 mile apart, for about a mile before they enter the base. Condor Road entrance appears to service residential areas south of the main base area. Valle Vista Road runs perpendicular to both Adobe and Condor and crosses both 1/2 mile south of the base. There appears to be only one residence on Valle Vista between Adobe and Condor otherwise it is undeveloped desert and no apparent reason for anyone to park on that piece of road. A vehicle left there would be conspicuous to anyone who used that road.

It is an inescapable conclusion that whoever left it there was either returning to base or wanted it to appear that way.

Also, cell service is good in 29 Palms and the entrance to Joshua Tree NP is right on the outskirts of town. It might fade as she drove deep into the park, but pings would leave a clear record if she really drove into the park Sat morning around 7:00AM.

Have they said where on Valle Vista Road her car was found? Google Valle Vista Road 29 Palms and there are a LOT of houses on that road on Zillow and Trulia, etc. It's a really desolate looking place but there are many residences - I wish we knew exactly where on that road her car was located.

Thanks. I agree. That highlights the contradictions I brought up more clearly.

The family should NOT necessarily rely on the police department if they are seeking a live person. There are many things the police don't have the resources to pursue anyway. Some ideas might help either way (like employing drones in the desert to find Erin). If they are NOT seeking a live person, the Facebook page seems strange. (I could keep going...)

We see very often that even if LE is not seeking a live person, the family may still be doing so. LE works on statistics and probabilities and evidence. Families work on hope and often prayers.

Valle Vista Road just outside the combat center.

another report stated Valle Vista Road between Condor and Utah Trail

"It's been one week since Erin has been missing. It's been four days since we have had any updates to aid in the investigation into the search for Erin," said a post uploaded on Saturday. "PLEASE PRAY that today is the day we find Erin, or, at the very least, that there is a direction we can be pointed as to what happened has to her."

Interesting comments under the article from the sarcasm guy. I wonder if he actually knows that or if he's just guessing?

Who in the family said that LE told them not to talk? Did the husband tell his in-laws this or did LE tell in-laws directly? Just wondering. I can't really imagine why. It is not as though the family knows much, except that she is missing, so how could they harm the investigation? And if someone does know...usually LE is anxious for them to babble on camera. Weird.

:loveyou:I have been trying to catch up on this thread! And I finally did. I live in Southern CA! It's been so hot even where I live, lately and I'm closer to the coast! Anyway, IMO..what I find suspicious is, Erin going out there to JTNP, by herself. I don't know, personally I get an off feeling about it! I really hope I'm wrong. Another thing, that is nagging at me is, why her husband didn't report her missing sooner? Even if you have to wait 24 hours or what not, why not at least call the police and say..my young pregnant wife, left at 7 am, hasn't returned? She a pregnant, it's extremely hot outside..etc..ect..
I also checked out the find Erin page on FB..and a lot of her friends are being very defensive and trying to correct everyone's info that they feel is wrong on posts? So, it seems hard for people to post..or at least ask any questions? Her friends seem very defensive..etc...Not saying I wouldn't be in that situation but people, I think are interested and would like to know more facts, so maybe people can feel more helpful? Idk? I don't think they (the police) have released what she was wearing? Sorry, if they have? I haven't seen it. I believe her car was found and her cell phone found in a different location? I have read so many news and her finding Facebook page, links fail me, at the moment. All of this is me talking out loud and my opinion.

It means zero to me that people who know the husband swear that he could never hurt her. We see it over and over. Even charming successful good looking men who are pillars of their church are plenty capable of killing their wife and covering it up.

If mine ever murdered me he would have to do it in front of a surveillance camera and walk around with blood on his shoes and bleach in his car to get caught. People would still swear he didn't do it. People are suckers for a charming man.

Sarcasm guy? Is that the right link? I don't see any comments from sarcasm guy.

FB pages often turn defensive and hostile very quickly...I think in most cases they do more harm than good, jmo.

And no, no word of what she was wearing. I guess if no one saw her leave, it would be difficult to say, though I thought it was said she was "last seen" leaving home, although if she was in a car, it would be hard to see what she was wearing I guess.

Not sure if phone was found-conflicting info on that.

The quotes are still there. Look at the last quote by him. I don't think I can say his actual screen name, just hint at it. Look at the quotes - there's only like 8 of them total. It's the guy with sarcasm in his name. I think he posted at least 3 times.

:welcome: Blondgrl!

I, too, find it interesting that the clothing Erin was last wearing has not been reported.... :waitasec:

I can't help but wonder if the clothing has some special ramifications.... That LE wish to keep hidden at this time in the investigation... ( For instance... Was she in her pajamas? , etc...)

PURE SPECULATION HERE!
