Of course, he did to the deed. NL may get a conspiracy to commit murder charge or accessory after the fact. But ultimately he decided to murder this poor girl for turning to him for comfort during an painful time in her life. She had to be vulnerable when she came to him.

He thought it out, there is proof of that with his computer search and asking that person who to dispose of a body. He's the one who stuck his neck out by asking that question.

Because he was so sloppy, I wonder if he was just desperate to get it over with and didn't think it all the way through first. Maybe if he had, he would have realized there was no way he was going to get away with it.

Good point. He was probably desperate and could pull off steps A-K, but sort of lost his steam beyond that (cuz he was limited)... I sometimes think "desperation" should be added as the 8th sin onto the 7 deadly sins (pride, greed, envy, wrath, avarice, lust, gluttony, sloth), cuz it's the levelizing influence that rises above the successful impact sometimes of all the others...

Thanks Ihavenoclue! That does help. Sorry I didn't look it up myself :blush: but I really appreciate you finding it and posting what you found. So IMO I guess we can pretty much rule out "already far away from family anyway" as one of the reasons not to fight the extradition. He had just recently moved back to AK so maybe he figured it wasn't worth fighting, especially since he had to be back in CA anyway in a few weeks for the whole potato gun charge. I wonder if he knew he was being watched closely while in AK? Also wonder if he and/or Nichole gave up once Erin was found and the whole "no body no case" plan didn't work out. Sometimes I wish I could get into these peoples' heads to understand what's going on, and sometimes I'm pretty glad I can't understand it at all.

What we do know (from LE affidavits justifying the search warrants) is that CL and Erin met up the day she disappeared, and they obviously talked on their way to the hunting trip/'special day' to celebrate her pregnancy. It could have been as basic as "what are we going to do? how are we going to deal with this without screwing up our current marriages/lives/careers in the USMC and having everything blow up in our faces?", i.e., they were feeling eachother out and going off for the day to talk it through.

So he strung her along and pretended to be on the same page (let's celebrate your pregnancy) to get her alone, but it was just a ruse (hence the lying in wait charge), and he planned to and did then murder her once he got her to a remote location where he was sure he could dispose of her body and it would never be found, and his infidelity and getting her pregnant would never come out and he could go on his merry way.

I truly think it was that simple, and whether NL pressured him (or worse) and/or he was worried about losing his family/child support/demotion/finances/looking like a schmuck, etc., and/or JC and/or NL were livid and collaborated somehow to end the affair or cover things up because of their huge emotional investments in trying to right their ships and restore their relationships/status/avoid additional embarrassment, those possible contributing factors were peripheral to CL's decision to take her life to make his problems go away, because he has no conscience and is a narcissistic sociopath, just like Scott Peterson. He did it, he got caught and is charged with her murder, and he alone is going to have to face justice, and all the rest is just excuses/noise/boohoo for you. I don't care if his wife 'made him do it'. He did it. End of story. JMOO

Sorry to snip any of your excellent post, just trying to make it a tiny bit shorter in my reply. I too feel so sorry for (almost) all of them. I also agree with you I think in CL's mind it really might have been that simple. Go out for a day trip, fake her out, drop her in a mine, all problems <poof> go away. And his wife can't "make" him do whatever he did. Certainly she could beg, plead, threaten, or whatever and maybe he even felt trapped, but she didn't "make" him do anything, IMO.

I keep coming back to the point so many have made. The consequences may have sucked if the affair came out and she was pregnant with CL's child, but pregnant or not Erin didn't have to die. On top of that the consequences for all of them can only be worse now.

Circling back to why the car was moved. Just maybe...Let's say Nichole sees Erin's car parked off road. Her husband has left for the day too. hmmm. She calls Jon to tell him her suspicions that Chris and Erin are together. They go back to the car together. They move it just enough to let Erin and Chris "know" that they know they are together. I accept the witness's account 100 % and his description of the man in the car matches Jon, not Chris. And we all see that Nichole could easily pass for Erin. (And wouldn't the timeline still have Chris and Erin at JTNP??) There is no warrant for a red car because Nichole and Jon openly acknowledge they met up to look for their spouses. Even in a borrowed red car, it doesn't matter and won't be released as pertinent information. Jon doesn't call and report Erin missing until the next day because he figures Erin is with this [link removed], he's been down this road already, is ticked off and really who thinks that murder would be involved?? Just a theory.

I do know that if I had to live across from the women that was sleeping with my husband I'd probably come across to strangers as an evil b***h too. I feel it too, but why are we so tough on Nichole?

My guess is because we're somewhat appalled she doesn't seem so appalled and hasn't left him in the dust the minute the sh*^ hit the fan (LE came to the ranch with search warrants and it was obvious he had been up to no good). However, I also think there are gender-bias issues at play -- re Men: oh, he's just a wayward boy who can't help himself, boys-will-be-boys, and they are so clueless and have to be grabbed by the collar sometimes and lectured on how they should behave, and 'stand by your man' to rescue your marriage and all that. re Women: oh, you should be nurturing and comforting and understanding with your man, and yeah, he may have hurt you and royally messed up, but even if he is immature and screws up, (in this case) he is also the breadwinner, so he's doing his part for your family, and you're supposed to be unquestioning and doing whatever it takes to keep it together for the sake of the family.

She has probably been out on a limb this year, discovering his infidelity with their neighbor (huge blow), and thinking of her daughter and trying to keep it together and fight to salvage their marriage, and in order to do that, she has had to take him for what he is and put up a brave countenance (and perhaps give him ultimatums she thinks he can handle). Somehow, people these days (IMO) relate more to an obviously hurt woman who distances herself from a jerk than one who is stalwart and stands by him at all costs albeit disgustedly, hoping that things will improve given time and patience.

Oh if I had to live across from the women sleeping with my husband I'd come off as more than an evil b***h. I'm come off as homicidal. that made the whole thing worse for NL I'm sure, to have to see the object of her husband's desires day in and day out, coming and going. I can't even imagine the tension there was on Jasmine Dr./Ln./Ave./St. in that little area.

I don't see JC lying to LE though. If he did find her car, why not report it to LE instead of pretending not to know where it was? I can't find a logical explanation as to why he would be open and honest with the police on everything else but choose to lie to them about knowing where her car was, especially if NL was sticking by her husband after the fact and could go to LE and tell them that JC had lied about knowing where her car was all along. I don't see NL and JC together at the car or anywhere else. And unless we believe that JC lied to LE, I don't see him as being the one driving the red car, either (though I do agree JC matches MB's description of the red car driver much more than CL does.)

I do like your theory, sort of psych them out. It's interesting. :thinking: The one thing I have to say is that it doesn't really explain why the sheriff's department would have had to go back to MB to take his statement again, after MB talked to CBS8. But other than that it's a good one.

Me, too! So, so much! When I first started to read your sentence, "In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in memory of Erin...." for a split second the Horse Rescue popped into my mind and, though I am sure they do a wonderful service for those poor neglected horses, I thought to myself "No....just NO!" Needless to say, I was very touched when I saw "San Bernardino Search and Rescue." I am going to make a donation in Erin's memory tomorrow.

A member of the "Where is Erin" Facebook page is petitioning the Bureau of Land Management to close old, abandoned vertical mine shafts in California, beginning with mines in the area where Corwin's body was recovered on Aug. 17.

I think I remember they stated Jon said he did not know where EC was, and that could fit also. I do feel he would have told LE the car location when he called in if he knew at that time. I'm not sure of the time line there. Word is the water dept. found it and LE was called. If Jon was aware of it's location before that, I feel he would have advised LE, but maybe not (embarrassed). I'm going to sleep on this one. It's the best theory on the red car I have heard so far because it fits well. Nothing else has. Peace.

I'm as stumped as you. I really would love to hear from LE about this red car.
