If LE arrested this man late Friday night, I am sure they had questioned him through the night and certainly had his picture. I'm not understanding why they did not share those with family at the meeting with them this morning. Not even his picture to ask if they knew or recognized him? To me there is something hinky going on,

And relevant connections already vanishing with FB pages being removed or completely locked down :-/

Was hoping we might have a bit longer.

Lame, I couldn't find it in the first place. :-(

This suggests to me that the family was shown his picture. How else could they sure they don't know him? JMO

A (the sister) said she didn't know the name at the time of the press conference at 5.

I'm not sure why, since the media already had it by then.

Maybe there's a reason they didn't want her/the family to acknowledge whether they know him. (I think it's going to be a six degrees of separation type thing from what I've found...not really six, but...)

How many degrees would you guess, travelingbug?

I'm with you on this as I'm sure the family was aware of the name prior to the PC. Actually it was not even what I would call a press conference as LE was not there and it lasted about 70 seconds. My only thought on this is that it is the first arrest and more are to come.

If anyone can a get picture of the suspect the family would appreciate it...

According to this post after even the press conference the family was asking for a picture.

I just have never seen an arrest in a high profile case done this way. IMO usually the family and LE are side by side. And info regarding the perp is released at that time. Mugshots are usually available and released to the public after booking and charges has taken place.

Hmm...well now I'm really curious how the mix up with the photo came about.

I notice in the most recent articles (within tha past hour) he's being called 'Carlos Gallopa'. Don't know if there's anything significant in that, just found it a bit odd.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/06/2...holiday-season-killings-2-brothers-fiancee-1/

Mmm, for one, none of them are local sources.

Second, I think them probably not having a super clear look at the press statement think may be a piece of it. Lack of effort = carelessness.

The statement they're using (posted here up thread by Best, and then she typed it out also) actually came from Homicide Lt Mike Hastings and clearly states his name as Carlo Gallopa Mercado, and then repeatedly uses Mercado as his last name.

Plus the booking thing from the jail also clearly states Mercado as his last name. https://twitter.com/10NewsPhillips/status/480487064249831424/photo/1

And it may also be just lack of cultural awareness and not realizing many cultures often having more names than most Americans are used to, and they jumped on what to them was the likely surname.

Just sloppy (and lazy enough to not look into it/dig themselves) media folks...and then they all quote from one article and it spreads.

Besides, Carlo's SM accounts are all Carlo Mercado. All of his family members have Mercado as their last name (the immediate ones, obviously)

I appreciate everybody posting what they've gathered so far. I'm still so shocked and nervous, but it really is a relief that there's been an arrest.

Wondering why Gianni was found up in Riverside. So curious about the arrest!

There are connections to Riverside from other individuals closely connected to some 'players.'

I believe it was a place or direction that wouldn't arouse great suspicion because of associations there.

Could you expound on that and stay in TOS at the same time? Riverside is also on the way back to the address up north as well I believe.

Evidence collected at home of suspect after arrest, per interview with neighbor on NBC tv.

How I understood the 11 p.m. news report is that whoever Carlo was staying with at that Mira Mesa address, whether it be a family member or friend is not clear to me, knew the family of the Belvedere brothers. Still curious and confused here. Please keep sharing.

News anchor said it was a relative only identified as "Ron". The report I watched did not mention knowledge of Belvederes.

I don't believe this man acted alone. This could be just the first arrest. And could be why LE is waiting until Monday for a presser. And according to witness reports at the scene they described the shooter as getting into the "passenger" side of the vehicle. Must be two involved, IMO.

I do wonder if there will be another arrest, or maybe even more.
I agree with you, jggordo. It seems likely, IMO.

I think we watched different news reports. Definitely don't take what I think I heard as fact or too important, at this point. Anyone who ate at the family's restaurant could say they knew the family. LE or the news has not confirmed whether the killer knew them.

Why, why, why???!!!???

I thought an arraignment or first appearance has to happen with a certain number of hours after arrest. Him being arrested on Friday night and nothing in court until Wednesday of next week seems strange to me.

I did not see this coming. I'm glad the families can now have some measure of closure.
