Found Deceased CA - Helen Coultrup, 87, Valley Springs, 3 Aug 2019

Any possible reason that she was traveling in that area? On a dirt road? I'm not familiar with the area, but from looking at the map, it doesn't seem to be in a location she would normally drive. (Not in line with Angel Camp, San Andreas, or Jackson, where her granddaughter stated she normally drives.)

Google Maps
I don't know, zecats. Although her family says that she is very smart, navigation-wise, they've also said that she has memory problems and gets confused sometimes.

My first thought was that she got lost, was trying to turn around, and got stuck. But, she also could have met with foul play. I sure hope she is okay but it has been almost two weeks now. :( MOO

Sadly I agree. If she were just lost, she’d be somewhere near the car’s location, and she should have been spotted by now. Strange case. JMO

They have no idea why she would have gone up there. Family and church members cannot think of anyone that she knows in the area. However, they believe that it is possible that she was just adventuring. A family member noted that she had a habit of keeping bottled waters in her car. Since the car had a flat tire and the windows were rolled up and doors locked, she most likely left on foot to seek assistance. Hopefully, she took some waters with her. Supposedly, there was a report of someone matching her description being seen at a Cost Less Food Store in Jackson, CA. That is why they are also searching that area this afternoon. Has anyone found out the name of the dirt road? It says she was several miles onto the dirt road. There are so many little roads off of Blue Mountain Road.

Family, community search for grandmother missing from Calaveras County
[...]

A man driving an ATV found Coultrup’s car on an unpaved road off Blue Mountain Road near Wilseyville, the sheriff’s office said. The car doors were locked, the windows were rolled up and one of the tires was flat. A sheriff spokesman said there was no indication of foul play. Officials also said they were unable to locate her using cell phone data because she does not own a cell phone.

The Calaveras County search and rescue team, Calaveras County sheriff’s detectives and California Highway Patrol air unit are investigating and searching the area where the vehicle was found.

“We think she was really confused,” said CC. “Start of early process of dementia and just couldn’t find her way home.”

Missing grandmother found dead in Calaveras County

Is the bolded sentence just worded poorly? If not, is this an indication of foul play or?

Could be, but I'd guess it's from the animal activity based on what we know at this point. :( MOO

Oh no. :(

I'm thankful she was found but that sounds so gruesome. I hope they can tell how she died despite the animal activity. Prayers going out to her family. :(

Very sad. Still a bit of a mystery. Did she get confused and drive way out there? Sounds like maybe she tried to walk after her car had a flat tire. RIP Helen :(
