So going back to the start of the trial and the deleted voicemails....
I am thinking the two timed felon deleted these. I am guessing, CM may have left a VM like, " hey, I got your message that you want to talk about (insert reason here like stolen checks, bad workmanship, monies owed, etc). Or CM could have left a message like, " you dirty scoundrel, that money is mine and I am owed". Messages left on Joey's phone by CM may have raised eyebrows.
I remember an old Rick Baker interview on our local news channel and he said Joey kept the same password for his many accounts. Maybe CM figured out his voicemail PIN and deleted them.
All IMO, MOO, etc

Oh yeah I agree with all this.

A key question is why today? Why did the McStay's get murdered on the 4th of February after knowing Chase for so long?

There was a flashpoint. But it didn't come from nowhere. He built up to this in his usual self destructive way.
I thought maybe joey had it out with him at the meeting and CM blamed Summer for his change in attitude.
Another thing in the book no good byes. Some angry text messages were sent to joey from dan kavanaugh and joey writes an email saying he's afraid for heand his families welfare

I know! But going to the memorial wouldn't make him innocent. Jodi Arias went to her victim's memorial, iirc

Whenever I loathe about the sound quality and clarity of the McStay trial, I think it is probably the Arias trial that did it. Just think! That was in 2013! There were 5 HD cameras in the front of the courtroom capable of switching between the defense, the prosecution, judge, witness, gallery and I think it was also hooked-up directly to the projector or TV via HDMI for crystal clear exhibits! Not just focusing on the TV. All 1080p and crystal-clear audio too. It's 2019 and how can Law & Crime allow only one speaker to work for 25 days (26?)! Anyone know if the audio was any better since the break? I also noticed, it seems much more HD on the live-stream.

Was it ever proven that joey and chase met that day at chik filet? I thought maybe this time joey really laid down the law maybe even telling him he was done with him. I don't know if we'll ever know where joey was killed. Maybe at CM's warehouse or he could have been stewing and drove to fall brook after joey got home

Question here: Is the original CNN video still available? TIA!

Even if it is HD on the live-stream , you can't take advantage of it because you have to change it to 140p in order to not have it freeze up. I think they are working with equipment they bought cheap off of ebay or something.

I don’t agree that Chase thought him forging would not be found out.

Joey was running a business and would of checked his accounts often so it was just a matter of time and Chase would of known that.

So that’s why something happened that tipped him over the edge and he thought to hell with it. Maybe Joey had hinted at getting rid of him due to how poor his work was?!

Maybe he had a pop about Summer and Joey set him straight

Something definitely happened that made him think “to hell with this” on the 2nd.

Yes it is. I am not tech savvy, so can't post the link, but it is on YouTube.

Are they planning to play the whole CNN thing?

Murderers are as individual as the murders they carry out.

Why would prior violence show anything about whether he did THESE murders?

Only time will tell. I do believe there are always red flags that can be spotted well in advance in uncontrolled rage. Drugs, alcohol, and physical fighting. Why do you think that violence decreases with age in people? People are creatures of habit. Not all people who show cruelty to animals go on to murder but most who are killers started with small unnoticed creatures. We just don't keep track of that kind of behavior. How many innocent people have just recently been proven with DNA evidence after spending their life in prison? As a juror I would require one on three pieces of evidence to convict and I have not seen much of either.

I just watched a long CNN video on utube. Chasing a killer
Interesting. I am watching one called "who murdered the McStay family" Its a CNN documentary.

Talking "trophies". Didn't say "evidence". Don't care how it was put there on his phone. Don't care if it was a screenshot. CM isn't "family". He was an employee. He certainly didn't show up when the memorial was erected. Fact is that is was on his phone.
How many pics of murder victim memorials do you have on your phone?

You wrote "let's be real here". Murderers typically have trophies of their handiwork...that's real, not fiction.
Let’s not forget that JM was CM's friend, I would expect CM to have something personal to remember him by.

But the forecast for money coming in was five times that amount, if not more. It all would have worked out. The only motive that makes any sense in all this, is if Joey was planning to fire Chase. Then there would be a reason for Chase to have woke rage. But there has been zero evidence presented that Joey had any plans of firing Chase. None whatsoever.

I disagree, that there was no evidence that Joey had plans to eventually get rid of Chase. Here is a transcript from CNN:

KAYE: But as Patrick started investigating his family's disappearance his views on Merritt began to change.

P MCSTAY: That's what we found his record and we started finding more a lot about him and I don't remember all of him, but there was a burglary, (inaudible) theft, nothing violence.

KAYE: Chase handled much of the costume wielding work for Joseph's booming waterfall business. Here is what Merritt told us earlier this year.

MERRIT: We're anticipating probably a million and a half in sales for 2010. That's Joseph's total sales. I was probably going to be doing well over half of those waterfalls because the majority of those waterfalls were actually accustomed. KAYE: And that was just the beginning. Another potential contract of Joseph's would bring in about $9 million. Merritt stood to make a lot of money that is if we kept working for Joseph something that Patrick says was in jeopardy.

P MCSTAY: The last year Joey had talked about the quality of some of the (inaudible) had slipped. And Joey wasn't happy with that. He's upset.

KAYE: Blaming Chase at that point.

P MCSTAY: Yes, absolutely because he was getting complaints.

KAYE: Was he considering not doing business for Chase Merritt anymore.

P MCSTAY: Joey discussed with me about it possibly (inaudible) and getting another welder.

KAYE: Cutting Chase out.

P MCSTAY: Well not virtually cutting him out. Giving him some competition.

So before Joey even saw the fraudulent checks, he had already been thinking of replacing Chase because of all the complaints about his shoddy work. And he knew about his bad business reputation, his financial problems, his gambling and his criminal history.

So what are the chances that Joey decides to rid himself of this problem employee, once he realizes that Chase was writing himself checks from the business QB account?

In regards to trashing Summer, I was taken aback at the way he talked about her in the CNN interview I recently watched. As you said, it was just very inappropriate. His dislike was so evident.

Just wait until his jury sees and hears it for themselves.

I have no doubt they will feel the same way.

I understand the "trophy" angle. However; if he was not the killer, would it still be as "telling"? It would just be a friend that went to the memorial and took a picture, like many have done. JMO
The last thing the actual killer is going to have in their possession is a photo of where they buried the bodies. This is just another indication that CM is NOT the killer.

Reading that it doesn’t sound like Joey was going to get rid of him but hire somebody to give him competition. He basically wanted to light a fire under his arse by the sounds of it.

That would be your opinion though right? I have heard zero about him being abusive to the women in his life. Not Cathy, not Michelle, not his daughter, not his sisters.

I thought CJ ended up getting a restraining order against CM?
