ADMIN NOTE:

We've had to remove or edit some posts containing political comment this morning. Please know that if you politicize a post, any Warning points that are assigned will remain permanently on your WS history.

Also, not that it has occurred, but in case folks considering going there ... It is a TOS violation to get into any debate about the DP, so stay away from any discussion about the DP that does not relate directly to this case. IOW, you can talk about whether or not the DP is being sought, but you may not enter into debate about the pros or cons of it.

Me and every other California taxpayer.

Yes, that's the way I'm understanding it as well.

These are attorneys in private practice but the tax payers like yourself are picking up the tab.

Imo

Well unless we here their testimony, we won't know. Right?
Yes definitely. If those particular witnesses are actually called to testify?

Court is in session. Judge Michael A. Smith is addressing the jury about Gov. Newsom's moratorium on death penalty, "It has no effect on this phase of the trial.... Also don't consider that for any purpose.... I will guide you on law."

No you are wrong. These are not public defenders.

I know that. They appear to be high paid private attorney's. But we know that Chase was not in a position to personally pay for a top notch defense team. Yet, he got it.

Leticia is starting her coverage. Taylor, Chase's daughter is the first witness!!!!

Jarvis testifies she was 11-years-old when her dad started working with Joseph McStay. She met him on occasion when she was at her Dad's shop or go out to dinner with the McStay family.

No. That's not how it works.

If the state is not paying for CMs defense the defense wouldn’t be asking the court for more money. If private funded the defense would just spend the funded money.

No. You can have private counsel and still get funding for expert witnesses. This stuff isn't that hard to research.

Death penalty and LWOP have funding available for defendants with limited financial means.

I have actually been right about a lot in regard to this case, but I've also been very surprised. I never expected Chase to wrestle up a defense this good. I really wonder if his daughter navigated some of this. I recall her being interviewed early on,and she's sharp.
A death penalty defense is hundreds of thousands of dollars. It seems unlikely that the family has that kind of money. Any generous benefactors out there?

Jarvis testifies attending McStay's wedding. Defense Attorney Rajan Maline is showing her a picture. Jarvis laughs at the photo tells court it was an awkward phase. The photo includes Merritt, Javis, her mom, another little girl and McStay at the wedding.

At first it looked like Sara, but it's Taylor. I don't know if he even has as a daughter named Sara.

Our local radio KFMB 760 just mentioned the McStay trial on their news brief. That is the first mention of the trial I have heard since the trial began.
