They were actually in the Trooper not the Dodge as would be expected.

Sorry for not being clear.

That is my whole point.

The seats WERE in the Dodge that day.

The murderer decided to take the Trooper to the border to fake Mexico. So they took the seats from the Dodge, and other miscellaneous kid stuff, and medicine and put it in the trooper to make it look like a trip.

My theory :)

The problem with the car seats being moved from car to car (if that did happen) again points to the children being alive and not dead when they left the house hence Chase changing over the seats.

Why would Chase care if the car seats were in the green dodge if the boys were dead and it again explains why no vehicles that we are aware of had blood splatter is because none of the victims were dead when they left the home.

IMO

Unless he placed both bodies in the carseats and had covered them up with something.

Imo

In my theory, the kids were long dead. In the days after the murder CM is staging the crime scene and dumping the bodies.

His plan with dumping the Trooper at the border is to create the appearance of the Mexico trip.

So he gets the seats from the dodge and puts them in the trooper.

The fact that the seats are in the Trooper is part of the staging.

I think he took the seats later, when he had time to work out how he was going to stage the house.

I also suspect the Prosecution intends to make something of kids toys in the back of the trooper - again I think these should have been in the dodge

Thank you.

I have seen this same type of grandstanding and whine before coming from the defense.

They already know exactly what each state witness is going to testify about.

I am not very impressed with the defence team - they seem like bottom feeders specialised in the worst kind of clients

I wonder how CM is paying for all this

Ah..great theory and makes a lot of sense. Yes I agree. He was staging as murderers often do.

How on earth could he know the cops would think the family had gone to Mexico?

That was down to the cops being idiots not down to Chase having some master plan. He even debunked them going to Mexico himself and so did the family.

It was parked near the border. Didn't you hear the witness who owns the parking lot saying that people leave their cars in his lot and walk across the border and he has to try and warn them their car will get towed. I think it's a pretty obvious strategy to make people/investigators think they've gone over to Mexico.

All the while no one is looking for blood or bodies etc so there is time to do a thorough clear up and let the trail go cold and surveillance videos are wiped over.

I'm not either however other posters seem to like this aggressive style and very long laborious cross examinations.

I never do. I like those who get up and quickly make their points they want to make through each state witness and has the intelligence and experience to know when to shut up and sitdown.

These kind of attorneys wind up making cases far more about them and their hotdog aggressive ego driven personalities than simply trying to get to the points that may help their client.

I have no clue Mrjitty..who is paying for them. I've never heard of them before this case.

Is CM not indegient even though he bilked others out of thousands? I just assumed they are death penalty qualified lawyers in private practice but do take on cases like this one and is paid by the taxpayers of CA? Some will do it pro bono for the notoriety. I dont know if that is the case though.

I don’t think Chase thought that, he parked it there to cause confusion but never in his wildest dreams did he think the cops would legitimately think the family had gone over the boarder to never return.

As I said he even said that video wasn’t the family crossing the boarder and so did the family. The cops were idiots to think a family of 4 would just up and leave with a successful business , a new house in the middle of being done up and not a word to family.

I simply do not think Chase was a magician who had this all planned out. He got lucky due to incompetence.

Yes he planned to muddy the water by parking it there but he could never of dreamed it would work so successfully.

Agreed

The whole idea was to make the police think they went on a trip so that they can go "missing".

The thing about staging is it shows the hand of the murderer trying to create a narrative.

Why even hide the bodies?

Why even take the Trooper to the border?

The trouble is, if he just abandons the trooper on the side of the road, or on a back road, or in the desert, then the investigation is immediately very different.

IMO the idea to abandon it in plain sight was the one very clever thing he did.

I wonder given the computer searches, whether JM had mentioned a trip to Mexico? Maybe that is where CM got the idea.

Exactly. He had a purposeful intent all along when he staged their vehicle at the border.

That was his intent all along when he placed it strategically where he did.

Of course he then would say they would never go to Mexico especially with their two sons with them.

He knew others would be saying the same about the family not going to Mexico. He knew he couldn't be the only 'friend' that said they would have gone.

I don't agree. Once it's thought the family's left the country it is then a matter beyond the scope of local police. If you look at a map it's obvious he didn't leave the family vehicle 70 miles away in San Ysidro, with a trek to get back again, with no such plan in mind.

Google Maps

This is why I say he is a good liar - saying he didn't think it was them is not what you expect. Praising Joey and disparaging Summer is not what you expect. He thinks about things. He made mistakes, but he understands how to pull a fast one on people. He's a practiced liar. moo.

Do you know if the SD police were already notoriously known for not solving missng persons or murder cases prior to this case where they failed highly?

I do believe he did place the vehicle to look like they had gone to Mexico. Murderers always have a purposeful intent in mind in everything they do especially in the aftermath and cover up/staging.

I agree he got even luckier when the SD Keystone cops were the ones handling the case originally

I have seen Lt. Kenda say often times the luck seems to be on the side of the suspect instead of the victims when they were murdered. This case is painful proof of that.

I cringe at the mere thought just knowing he most likely would have gotten away with killing 4 victims if their bodies had never been found.

Imo

I have no idea on California police departments, I can only go on what happens in the UK coz that’s what I have experience with.

And I agree that’s the frustrating part that this only got moving when the bodies were found and that was not down to the police and their work on this case. It was down to somebody riding in the desert.

Is it possible that Chase staged the web search on the computer as we know from McGyver that Chase was over the house a fair bit?

Wasn’t it Chase though who said Joey would never take the family into Mexico due to how unsafe it was?
