okay, I have a question...

Did Joey tell anyone that he was going to fire Chase? I don't mean people that didn't like Chase and thought he should be fired, or thought he owed Joey lots of money, I mean did anyone that Joey talk to on a regular basis know that Joey was going to severe ties with Chase? Joey talked to Patrick lots... did he ever give him any indication of this?

Here is what I'm wrestling with at the moment. Chase did not get much out of Joey being gone after he left. Yes, he stole cheques and wrote them to himself as far we know... but it's not like he kept the business going and made a ton of money on it afterwards, did he? In his DuGal interview, he seems to know that the business won't last long without Joey, so keeping and running the business wasn't his goal, or was it?

The whole thing about Chase was set to be fired came solely from one person - Dan Kavanaugh - and that was ONLY AFTER Chase was arrested. Then he also throws in that he owed Joseph $30k. DK never said this to anyone, including the SD detectives. Why do you think that could be? All of it has a funny smell.

The quote from the interview I posted came before this one and I have to wonder why if Patrick is telling the truth he didn’t say this in the first interview?

He doesn’t mention any of this at all and it makes me question if he was embellishing here as this is pretty significant so why the complete 180?!

Also Patrick must of trusted him because they was working on a book together I thought?

I found that quote in this article:

McStay murder mystery: Who is Chase Merritt?

Merritt has not been named by law enforcement as a suspect in the McStay murders, and Patrick McStay insisted his son trusted Merritt as a business partner.

"I have to have faith in Chase because I have to have faith in my son. I believe that (Joseph McStay) trusted Chase and believed in Chase," Patrick McStay said. "Do I think Chase is involved? I don't think so and I truly hope not."

Ok, maybe you will recall this, because we have discussed before that you were on the InSessions forum (or CourtTV)... do you remember a poster that worked for a company that Joey ordered from? I am 99.9% positive that it was Gina.

Joey was a talker, I would expect him to talk to his Dad, out of everyone, about Chase and business issues. I am just trying to figure out where the "Joey was going to fire Chase" came from originally.
Yes, Gina.

hmmm okay, and yes, I think you have mentioned this before in another post. Probably because I was questioning it LOL

So, from your posts Force Ten, I think you believe that Chase did this. What do you think the motive was? Or maybe I'm wrong and you don't or are not sure?

Instead he went after Dan, Vick and McFadden. Yet Merritt had been in and out of jail/prison all his life.

Yes so absolutely no mention of Joey being upset with Chase so that’s strange to me that a year later suddenly Patrick claims that Joey was having issues with him.

ETA - I like Patrick so I’m not trying to slate him but i just want to point out the inconsistencies here.

Actually it was within months. That article was from Dec/14, the CNN interview is from Feb/15. He still wasn't accusing Chase I don't think, but his story did change a bit.

The December article is a bit confusing though, it says it was posted Dec/14, but wasn't Chase already in custody and charged? I suspect they just published it again on that date, because there is mention of trying to contact Chase and not getting a response. So I am not sure when PM would have made those comments. JMO

Interesting info on JM banking a large check at the RC branch of his bank.

If JM is "non confrontational" (as am I) I would propose he DIDN'T meet with CM after discovering the check fraud.

I've been an owner of a construction business. First thing I would do is secure that storage unit. New lock that disgruntled employees can't wreak revenge.

It's possible that with CM pending charges for felony commercial theft, he was on high alert about the check on the 2nd. If he discovered new lock, he would try to contact JM to see what's up.

As a non confrontational person, you probably wouldn't tell CM that you were going to file charges. But he was going to bring in a new welder to "compete." Especially since CM wasn't putting in the work expected of him. I don't believe JM would even tell THIS to CM.

Going back to MSM helping CM move his tools and supplies: flurry of calls between CM & JM. JM meets CM at storage for him to remove his things. CM waiting and brainstorming.

He also said in the CNN special that he had always suspected chase and that supporting him was a ‘keep your friends close and enemies closer’ type of situation.

I'm not sure where you are getting your info. There's no record anywhere of Summer talking to her sister regarding Chase. Also her sister is not in the CNN special, it's Gina Watson who was a vendor contact for Joseph.

Yes, you are correct. It was his vendor etc. Somehow I head it was Summer's Sister, yikes.

I think it came from Dan.

IMO They can say whatever they want in a press conference though, it doesn't make it true. I was under the impression that they did some testing in the home after the bodies were found, based on that press conference, and other info in the media after CM's arrest. After reading the preliminary hearing transcripts, I don't think I believe that anymore, plus, wouldn't the prosecution mention that in the opening statement? That would be pretty big and I would imagine they would want to get that "out there" right away, and I don't believe they did that. That is why we are hearing testimony about blankets, and futon covers, towels, shoes, bleach stains. JMO

From the preliminary hearing:

Q What conditions about the house had changed, according to them?
A They removed all the property, any leftover property that was in the residence. They changed the entire downstairs flooring. Put in hardwood flooring and changed the baseboards. They painted the walls in the downstairs bathroom and changed the flooring to tile. For the most part, that was it.

There is no mention of doing any testing in 2014 at the house.

The link button is used for when you want to direct link to a website in text... Like this.... the above is from the transcript here.

You don't make false statements in a press conference due to liability, IMO OS are an outline of the case. The case is at it's very beginning, finding the bodies. We still have to yet hear about the murder scene in testimony/evidence. I believe we will hear about the SBSO search warrants served on their home.

KAYE: In fact things were better than fine. Joseph had just received a big paycheck for one of his fountains, $16,000.

P. MCSTAY: He was going to go to the bank and deposit a check. There was a branch of the bank right there at Rancho Cucamonga by where Chase lived.
Susan Blake told Detective Steers that Merritt had told her that he (Merritt) had received $17,000 for the Saudi job, but she didn't know if it was true or even if he'd been out to Saudi Arabia - even though she gave him the money in May to buy a passport.

And I just remembered that the defense said in the cross-exam of Sequeida that Merritt was absent because he was travelling to fit the fountains - even though it's in evidence he asked Susan for money for a passport!!

Unfortunately, we will have to wait to see where the testimony goes... at this rate it will be months:confused:

Are you saying you think that the Saudi cheque was the big cheque that Joey was talking to Patrick about?

Merritt could have been travelling within the US (no passport required, right?). They were doing the Paul Mitchell fountains around that time if I understand correctly.

True, they could be for similar amounts. But I did think he mentioned him going to Saudi when he did the cross-exam of Sequeida, maybe I'm mistaken.

Found out CM is 2x Parolee and he couldn't legally own one, but that never stops the bad guys.
Thank you! I recalled the same but it’s good recall. Isn’t CM a felon? I know firearms and permits are more difficult to acquire legally in CA and recall previously believing this may well have been the reason a
Sledgehammer was the weapon of choice.

I'm predicting he will not take the stand.
