Some musings and questions -
1. I've had the same thought as Force Ten about Gianni's backpack being found in one of the graves, and the claim that the family was murdered in their home. As much as the little tyke loved his backpack, would he have been wearing it at home, in the evening, when the family presumably was settling down for the night? Would he have been wearing it when he was murdered, and carried away from there to be buried in the desert?
2. Some posters have questioned whether the meeting at Chic-Fil-A actually took place, although I believe it has been verified by LE. Patrick talked to Joey that day about 10:30 a.m., and Joey told him everything was fine. Wouldn't it logically follow that he told him about meeting with Chase that same day?
3. The 8:30 p.m. phone call that Chase claims he didn't pick up - Patrick has said when he talked with Chase some time afterwards, Chase told him he did answer that call. "But when Patrick McStay asked about the call, Merritt said it was a follow-up to their conversation at lunch." Time the enemy in solving McStay family killings - CNN
4. I think Patrick initially had a more or less favorable impression of Chase, probably because Joey seemed to like him a lot. However, the bloom went off of that rose when Gina Watson examined their financials in earnest, and saw very clearly early on that Chase was bad news. She warned Joey then about Chase, but he more or less brushed off what she said. "Don't worry, he'll be fine." Give the guy a chance, non-confrontational Joey.
5. Summer probably was not an "easy" person in some ways. She was independent, savvy, and opinionated, and told it like she saw it with no holds barred. For reasons of her own, she did have her particular sensitivities, and at times perhaps overreacted when they were hurt. She was fiercely protective of her children, and wouldn't have hesitated to fight Tarzan, all 115 pounds of her, if he threatened them. Someone like Chase, whom she disliked and mistrusted from Day One, would have bristled big time dealing with a female like that. As Force Ten has also pointed out, Merritt, and erstwhile author Baker, another winner with women, loved to malign her as much as they could - the veracity of what they were saying didn't matter one bit. In his book "Taken Too Soon," Patrick speaks to the individual she really was. Actually, there's much information in that book.
All FWIW
