Interesting that the Golden-state killer started out burglarizing homes. Psychopaths generally display violence long before they start to murder. The circumstantial evidence for CM will be the cell tower ping near the gravesites during the exact time-frame of their disappearance. The next piece of evidence I want to see in this trial is how the
Trooper ended up parked near the boarder. The family was killed on the 4th (Thur) and the car was towed on the following Monday (2-8-10). Four days is plenty of time to do cleanup if the man worked 24/7. Where is CM alibi?

Also, SDSO *noted* there was no forced entry into the home, concluding that it was someone close to the family.

Here is this:
Transportation in Tijuana: San Diego Trolley
With the border of Mexico less than 20 miles from downtown San Diego, millions of people travel to Tijuana from San Diego every year. While some drive, arguably the easiest way to cross the Mexican border is by taking the San Diego Trolley.

From downtown San Diego, a trip to the Mexican border will take about 45 minutes on the Imperial Way blue line.

The trolley arrives approximately every 15 minutes and is generally an easy way to get around the city.

The last trolley departs San Ysidro at 12:58 a.m.

So that is to San Diego or back to San Diego... it takes 45 minutes? 20 miles? I think it was KALI or Edmo said it was a 15 minute drive. From San Diego he has to get back to Corona though too.

Sorry for the million posts in a row! I sat down with some coffee to catch up... :D:D:D Just want to say how much I appreciate all of you and your viewpoints!

@asyousay I missed you the past few days, have you been able to catch up on the testimony? I hate when work gets in the way haha I am self employed, and will be busier the next few weeks, I'm kind of happy they are dark on Monday/Tuesday, those will be my busy day's the next few weeks, so I shouldn't have troubles keeping up. Also, because I'm self employed, if I have the time, I can stream the trial from my phone haha Only problem is the sound sucks soooo bad for this trial, I wish they would figure that out!

JMO, but I don't think he had the Trooper at home. He lived in an apartment complex, they usually have limited parking spots, I don't know where he could park it and it not be suspicious or CJ seeing it (assuming that she is not involved at all).

I think the trooper was at the McStay residence until it was dumped. It was the last step of the staging, after he had time to think about it, and critically, after he already got away with the murder for a few days.

Remember CM had no way to know that the McStays would not be missed immediately.

I agree. I think it was there until the 8th too. Hiding it in plain sight basically.

Honestly, I can't recall right at the moment what she said lol But we haven't heard any testimony in the trial about the results of that testing yet (other than OS's) The best we can do for the moment is the preliminary hearing... this is what was said..

13 Let's start with the profile obtained from the steering
14 wheel of the Isuzu Trooper.
15 A Yes.
16 Q What did he tell you his results were?
17 A That it was -- the way he described it, there was a, a
18 major contributor. He extracted Joseph's profile from that.
19 There was a minor contributor. And then was a trace
20 contributor. He said he extracted Summer's DNA profile as the
21 trace contributor. And that left Merritt as the minor
22 contributor to the sample obtained by Williams from the steering
23 wheel.

24 Q Did he tell you it was a match, or --
25 A I'm sorry. He said it was a match for Charles Merritt's
26 DNA in the profile.
27 Q As a trace contributor?
28 A As a minor contributor. And then, on a second set, he
73
1 obtained a trace contributor.
2 Q Did he do the same for the swab taken from the gearshift?
3 A Yes.
4 Q And what was the result of that?
5 A The result of that was that it was a trace contributor
6 for a match for Charles Merritt.

7 Q Did he also do the same analysis with regard to the
8 heater and air-conditioning controls?
9 A Yeah, it was -- it was a match. It was, I believe it was
10 a collective swab.
11 Q Oh, it was all one swab?
12 A It was a collective swab.
13 Q Okay, okay. And so the results you previously described,
14 that Mr. Jones described to you, are the same for that, all the
15 swabs?
16 A Yes, sir.

State of California VS Charles Ray Merritt: Part Two - Transcript of Charles Merritt Preliminary

I've never seen DNA/Blood Stain swabs taken from separate areas using a single swab stick? You contaminate by doing that. If it's true, I'm surprised they allowed it into evidence. That's like lifting 3 fingerprints using the same tape, lol.

How would they KNOW which DNA sample came from which part of the car, as a collective swab? Doesn't make sense to me?

Would there be a record of a rental? Most require a credit card, don't they? Hitching a ride... is that easy to do down there?
Well I've just looked it up, there is a site called hitchwiki believe it or not which says that it is easy and legal to hitchhike in California.

There is a truck stop (motorway services) in San Diego called So Cal. He could take a San Diego Trolley blue line which runs every 15 minutes from San Ysidro to San Diego journey time 42 mins, and stops right at the truck stop.

I think it would make an ideal place to hitch a ride up the I-15, 100 miles to Corona, which is 1hr 40 mins, at 60 mph - could be done in less time at faster speeds. Total travel time = 2 hrs 22 mins.

This requires him to leave San Ysidro at 11.10 am.

I've no idea about credit card requirements for car rental.

Yes I have caught up pretty much, thank you.

I also like to read the thread as well so that took awhile to go though all the posts on top.

It’s really interesting reading the different opinions on how the trial is going so far.

The time difference is a real pain for me as when I am working and then go out for a evening and come home late I literally just don’t have the energy to listen to the trial.

Right!!!! But this is exactly what they did. You can see the testimony at about 19:30 of this video:

I have also taken screenshots. She also took collective swabs of the interior of the doors.

I need to thank whoever it was that told me about the transcripts in youtube video's!!!!! It makes finding spots in the video soooooo much easier and quicker! (I think it was @ehenson88 ... so thanks!!! )

I hope the prosecution has a theory about how he got back.

When they played Chase's interview, I think he said that Joey quit paintballing because he was so sick, but he continued to play soccer.
That's weird then that he would say he went paintballing with him 6 weeks earlier.

I've just checked the video interview and when they ask him how long ago he says month and a half. I know it was reported as 6 weeks before their disappearance but that must be a reporter error. So 6 weeks before the interview was beginning of January. How does he reconcile that with Joey being sick and quitting?

But public transportation takes longer, right? By what was posted, it takes 45 minutes by Trolley. Is there bus service, or other modes of transportation?

and since you are in Cali... if you rent a vehicle, isn't a credit card required? I know it is here... but I am not sure about there. Thank you so much, it's so helpful to have posters that are local and can help us out with understanding the area, the traffic, the times, etc. :)

I'm intrigued by this thought! We know Joey drove the Trooper to RC that day on the 4th, when do you think it arrived back at the house? Where was the Trooper during the neighbor's video footage at I believe it was 7:47? If it wasn't the Trooper in the footage leaving the driveway, all 3 vehicles couldn't have fit in the driveway, and we know that the garage was packed full of stuff so no vehicles were parked in the garage. So where was the Trooper at that time? If not at the house at 7:47, when did he bring it to the house? If the Trooper was at the house until the 8th, how did Merritt get to the house to pick it up and drive it to the border? Hmmm... maybe he drove his truck to the border, then someone drove him from the border to the McStay's to pick up the Trooper? Then he drove it to the border himself from there? Where his truck was waiting? That would explain how he got home from the border. But then how did he get to the McStay's? I'd love to hear your theories on this!

Could he have gone to pick up the toys she found on Craigslist?

Maybe and that would mean JM wasn't home when CM arrived at the house. Easier for him to overtake SM and kids.

MOO

Yeah, I don't know? I just recalled hearing that when they played that interview lol I remember thinking that soccer can be pretty strenuous too if it's more than just for fun and competitive!

I remember now about how a cell phone is tracked, even with the phone off AND the battery removed. This info was disclosed by Edward Snowden when he outted NSA and their programs they use.

I also found an article about Google/Android phones that basically state the same thing.

Google Tracks Your Android Phone's Location No Matter What You Do

I can't wait for FBI (Boles sp?) to testify about the phone records. I'm hoping he will be able to "fill in the gaps" we are all trying to do here. Maybe we can figure it out before then? Keep sleuthing folks !

You are right, I forgot about the video and the Trooper couldn't have been in the driveway if that was Merritt pulling out, and I think if it was on the street for 4 days the neighbour may have noticed. Mitchely did say that it was usually parked in the driveway backwards. I guess he could have pulled out like we see in the video and walked back and moved the Trooper back into the driveway? But then why isn't there a video of that. hmmm LOL

But Chase's phone pings near home at 5:47 I believe when he is talking to Joey.

So then we have to involve someone else having control of his phone at that time, who could that be? CJ doesn't make sense to me because if she had control of his phone, why in the world would she call it later that evening 4 or 5 times while knowing it was off?
