What would it be indicative of, besides the killer feeling he had the opportunity to cash in on his crime?

Cause and effect. Chicken before egg or egg before chicken.

Did Chase kill the family in order to write those checks?

Or is it because Joey suddenly vanished, that he felt he had to write checks until he could figure out his next means of gainful employment? He, like Dan, may have appropriated a little bit more than they were entitled to, but that could have been out of need. Both Dan and Chase were financially reliant on Joey's business to meet their bills. The man suddenly disappears, that could have caused a panic.

We also don't know that Joey didn't give him permission to write those checks. Or perhaps even asked him to.

My sense is that no one is disagreeing that Chase made that call. Where the difference in opinion comes in is, why Chase made that call.

He's a thief? JMO

It's true he has stolen in the past, but where is the proof he stole the money he is alleged to have stolen from Joey?

One poster speculated that the clothes had been sorted and stored in plastic containers. And those containers were used to transport the bodies.:(. That had never occurred to me.
Th children's things in the graves is so disturbing. Especially, the baby's towel. They refer to it as a robe?
Am really confused by the backpack.

My 3 yr old grandbaby has 'towel robes.' They are large 'towels' with a hoodie, sometimes with animal ears for cuteness, and sometimes with armholes. So you can scoop the baby out of the tub, wrap them in the towel robe, and they stay warm as they dry off.

Yes but there was evidence held back from the judge. Like the fact that Chase visited with Carmen Garcia the morning of Feb.8-putting a wrench in the theory that Chase, all by himself, drove the Trooper to the border and got back to the Corona area to ping at 1:32. And there are some questions as to whether investigators interpreted the digital evidence accurately.
It's only about a 2hr drive, from Azusa to San Ysidro. He could've been at MSM, before 8am, left for the border (after securing his alibi), hopped on a bus and been back up in Corona by afternoon, easily.

The checks were made out to him and put in his account and cashed?

Also, the best evidence of future behavior is past behavior.

The best indicator of future behavior is past behavior, however, people also change.

Maybe Joey wanted him to write those checks.

Most office managers don't arrive to work at 8am. And this wasn't the testimony given. Carmen said she believes Chase arrived mid-morning.

No disrespect, but are you up to date on JM's QB accounts? Where CM fraudulently wrote and signed JM's signature on those checks, post "missing family" dates? It IS in the record and testified to so far?

We don't know that this was done "fraudulently", only that it was done. Where is the proof that Joey didn't give him permission? OR, for that matter, ask him to.

Hmm...maybe. But I read the email that Joey sent to his webhost a bit differently. Joey wasn't calling the shots, Dan was. Dan basically threatened him to "buy him out" or he would pull his website and start his own. It appears that Dan considered himself a partner in the business, but Joey did not. Or if he did, not an equal partner. It doesn't appear that Dan had any actual legal claim to the business.

Which is why I can't understand why, after being threatened by Dan, why Joey would continue to work with him in any form, including having him involved in the website after being bought out. Actually, iirc Dan is the only one who claims that Joey planned to continue working with him after the buyout. So imagine...according to Dan, he works for years helping build EIP, to then be cut out just when the alleged multi-million dollar deals start coming in. I wonder how Dan felt about that.

And the reality is that what Dan was doing for EIP wasn't really that difficult. The website was mediocre at best, even Dan admitted that in the text string. So I can't understand why Joey would have felt it necessary to pay Dan TENS of thousands of dollars...for what exactly?!?...to buy him out. For what, a mediocre website? Wouldn't Joey's tens of thousands have been better spent hiring an actual professional website builder/SEO and cutting Dan out of the business completely? Does it make sense that he would spend tens of thousands to buy him out (again, for what exactly?) only to allow him to continue to have access and control over the website that he just spent tens of thousands to buy him out from? Joey was mortgaged up to his eyeballs, driving 10-year-old vehicles, had a family of 4 to support and another child he was paying support to, he had multiple home renovation projects going on that aren't cheap, Summer was buying used toys and things for the home on Craigslist and shopping at discount stores... and Joey then agrees to pay Dan tens of thousands for basically nothing? No wonder Summer wanted anger pills!

These are the things that make me wonder. Maybe they have nothing to do with the case. Maybe they do. All imo.

But didnt they also have over 100k in their savings account when they went missing? I remember people discussing that when they were missing, saying why wouldn't they take it with them if they were running off.

BECAUSE JM's signature does not match the checks signed AFTER they went missing?

If the possibility is being opened up to cartel killings, what about the possibility that this was simply a thrill kill? There isn't any real indication that the family was involved in drugs in a manner that would really put them in contact with any but the most low-level dealer. But what if someone who wanted to kill, for the sake of killing, pretended to be someone they weren't. Maybe someone advertising on Craigslist, or even presenting themselves at a contractor.

It's possible. But it is what happened in the immediate after math that doesnt fit with that, imo. Why would a thrill killer from Craigslist sit down and write a check on Joeys QB, made out the Chase?

Why would a thrill killer drive the family vehicle to the border?

Actually, did you look carefully at checks known to be signed by Joey? He often signed his name differently. And he may have told Chase to mimic his signature if need be. I worked for a boss who had a stamp with his signature that we would use to sign checks for payables when he wasn't around.

So joey is going to ask an employee to go into his business banking account and start writing himself checks? Why would he do that?

Really? Believe what you want brother. His signature was KNOWN and compared to those AFTER he was missing, FACT!

You mean like Israel Keyes? That was discussed a lot here. I honestly don't think it was a thrill killer, mostly because the family was found buried in Victorville. I mean, what are the odds that a random thrill killer would drive the family all the way up there? IMO the killer buried the family in Victorville because it was familiar to them (Chase, if he did it) or because someone wanted everyone to think that Chase did it.

I can't recall which testimony... one of the docs... said there were quite a few bodies found out there, maybe @Edmo would remember which one, I think that's who commented on it, being a local lol
