It's possible. But it is what happened in the immediate after math that doesnt fit with that, imo. Why would a thrill killer from Craigslist sit down and write a check on Joeys QB, made out the Chase?

Why would a thrill killer drive the family vehicle to the border?

Maybe the quickbooks check writing has nothing to do with the murders.

Most office managers don't arrive to work at 8am. And this wasn't the testimony given. Carmen said she believes Chase arrived mid-morning.

I could've sworn, I heard her testify that she arrived at work around 8 and he was usually already there. But then, the sound quality on that site (and even Youtube) is so poor, I can hardly hear it. From what I recall, she seemed confused and couldn't remember a whole lot.

Really? Believe what you want brother. His signature was KNOWN and compared to those AFTER he was missing, FACT!

Did you look carefully at those exhibits? Also, no expert in handwriting was ever consulted.

I can't recall which testimony... one of the docs... said there were quite a few bodies found out there, maybe @Edmo would remember which one, I think that's who commented on it, being a local lol

No idea about that, sorry.

OK. Maybe. But even if he was there at 8, where was the Trooper at that time? Did he drop his truck off, then pick up the Trooper?

I'm NOT an expert and it is OBVIOUS to me the signatures are 100% different than previously written checks by JM.

It was Changri. And Gray finally agreed that this was true, when pushed a little.

Why would a non-expert be more reliable than someone who has actual expertise?

The QB's guy TESTIFIED that CM WAS the one who attempted to call as JM and "cancel" the account.

Actually... he testifed that someone claiming to be Joseph McStay called, and I believe the call display showed Merritt's number.

The prosecution will later show that the time of the call was the same time as the call to QB's, but he didn't tell Baker that he was Chase Merritt pretending to be Joey. This is where I think it's hard to distinguish between what we know and what we think we know lol There is a difference, and now if the State can't prove that it was Chase that called, what would Baker's testimony mean? (I believe they will be able to show it, but they haven't yet)

The Forensic Anthropologist testified that she HAD recovered NUMEROUS bodies from exits in Victorville, if that is what we are referring to?

That was Gray, but Changri also said this.

There is no recording of that call. And Ryan wasn't asked about that call until 4 years later. But even if Chase did say he was Joseph, there could be innocent reasons for that.

I can't recall IF SBSO compared them with their "hand written" experts? So, you got me there.

Ok, I agree that need to find the real killer. Absolutely.

Let me ask you this---if you eventually find evidence, that it was Chase who created those checks, made out to him, and cashed by him, and you do find proof that it was Chase who was using his own cell phone to try and cancel Joey's QB data, would you then lean towards Chase as the killer?

ETA:
I have no idea why my typing adds the cross out lines. lol sorry...

This made me laugh lol not the content... but the strikethrough LOL

Well, I'd say so. Or parked around the corner, where no one would see what he was driving. Don't forget, we're discussing someone who has spent a LOT of time locked up. What do you think those knucklehead inmates do all day? They sit around and talk about the "perfect crime," and how *next* time, they aren't going to get caught. (I have been acquainted with an idiot, who served time. I know what I'm talking about).

OK. He risks being seen in the Trooper at Metro, drives the Trooper to the border and arrives at 10:30? Then he, catches a cab? Gets home. That could be true. It's a nice theory. Where is the proof that this occurred?

No, but first person testimony doesn't count now? Right.

Right. IF they prove that. So far, not so much.

I am not sure why you say that. The call to QB was made from Chase's cell phone. So that is pretty damning evidence.

And some of those checks were written out to be made payable to Chase and put in his personal bank account, then cashed out.

Again, pretty damning evidence. I don't think the defense is going to be able to convince the jury that Joey gave his sketchy employee permission to go into Joeys bank account and write himself checks.

Those were backdated to the 4th. WHY would CM do that if he had 'permission'?

You asked IF it was proved that CM was the one to call, in post 927, and we KNOW that CM was the one who called to cancel the QB account, according to the QB Rep that testified to his phone number? What else are you referring to? Thanks.

It did sound like there was more to the QB's call than just the call he made to Baker. There was 2 calls the previous day, I would like to know what those calls were about as well. JMO I hope if it was to alter the QB's account that the State will also call that customer service rep, although, I got the impression that they weren't going to, which then makes me wonder why lol
