I was having a quick flick through Schroeder's cross-examination and I heard this little snippet earlier -

Start at 18.00 in video

Maline: And that Feb 8th 2010, does it have a time associated with it?
JS: Yes it does.
RM: And what is that?
JS: 2.08 am.
RM: Around the same time that we saw for the eMachine correct?
JS: Correct.
RM: Same timeframe 2.06, 2.07, 2.08
JS: Correct.
RM: And that's am correct?
JS: Correct.
RM: Does it appear that the 2.08 access was a site called MSN. com is that correct?
JS: Yes.
RM: And that in 2010 that was a common opening page, would you agree in 2010? MSN?
JS: Yes it was.
RM: Ok so does that activity there suggest that all that was done on the HP was that the computer was booted up to its opening page? Is that what that activity would suggest?
JS: I would wouldn't say the computer was booted up but the application could have been opened, the internet explorer could have been opened, which was presented with that page yes.
RM: And there's no following searches like we saw on the eMachine correct - that you were able to identify?
JS: None are identified in the exhibit I'm looking at no.

So does this mean they agree the HP was not already on?

ETA strikethrough and word edit

Thanks Tortoise, so the HP appeared to be already on, just a browser was opened to its start page. And around the same time, someone was on the eMachine doing searches while the computer was going through an auto-set scan of some nature.

Hmmm....the close times of the searches on the eMachine bothers me for some reason, they just seem too close together for anyone to do who was looking for something, or even just busying themselves while paint was drying. Just a strange little issue that's bugging me. Thanks for the transcript and video.

In 2008/2009 did Chase have any judgements against him? Financially I mean. A credit card debt? a loan debt? I am not sure if it's something we know or would be able to find out.
He was sued by at least one client but I think it was maybe 2007. See what I can find.

Posting to correct my own post. I don't know if CJ called Merritt at all on the 6th, just that he called her 1130, 1131, 1132, 1134 and 1152.

I wonder if the call kept dropping or if he was trying get a hold of her like on the 4th.

At the end of yesterday showing his cell movements in that area. maybe he was driving around trying to get a good connection? Or, as you say, panic-dialing like on the 4th.

There is a big problem with Kevin Bole's testimony in regard to placing Chase at the graves, but it's hard to show the way he presents the exhibits. Chase pings two azimuths in short succession. One azimuth: 10 has a center that is north-eastish (but mostly north); the azimuth 330 has its center north but slightly to the west. The most logical location for Chase to have pinged those two azimuths of the same tower, so close in time to each other is if he is north of the tower.

Kevin Bokes testifies at another trial that elevation can cause a cell phone to ping a tower that is geographically farther from it, then would be expected.

To me, it looks like Chase is north of the tower, probably on 1-15.

The graves are basically south-east of the tower.

I don't know. You asked what is the nearest casino to VV?
oh ok, thanks! I just went back to that testimony that I recall looking at the bank statement (in spreadsheet) and all it says is "Non Bank of America ATM" but a withdrawal of $500.

Or just driving from Oro grande, or maybe Las Vegas. He pings the tower from azimuths that are primarily north facing.

Do you think the jurors have ascertained this? Or will?

By 2009 he had 100 k in medical bills from his heart attack. (He had no health insurance.)
He was sued by at least one client but I think it was maybe 2007. See what I can find.

THANKS!

My line of thinking at the moment is... there is a reason he didn't want money in that bank account. That's why he cashed cheques and stuff. I guess part of it could be the gambling, but I can't help but have this nagging feeling that it was because he was worried someone was going to "take" it. Which is why I was wondering if it was a bank credit card or bank loan... they can do that without a judgement if you owe them money. Otherwise there would have to be a judgement before accounts could be frozen, etc. I am wondering if this is why he opened a new bank account as well, different bank, harder to freeze funds if it was owed to BofA, or making it harder for a collector to find him.

The hospital bill... remember this is coming from a naive Canadian girl that doesn't have to pay for health care ... but do they do those types of things when you owe that much??? will they take your money from your account?

I had also googled a number that kept showing up on his cell records... it was a debt collector.

I haven't heard anything about it being an auto scan on the 8th - those were searches either typed into the search bar or selected from a pull down menu. My guess is the latter.

Those searches on the eMachine something like 6 seconds apart seems to me to be done to bury the first search so it drops down the list of most recent searches. Of course to the investigators it only drew their attention to what it was that needed to be buried.

I recall reading that he had the IRS after him, for back taxes. He owed something like $20,000.

Isn't that more towards Palm Springs, though? I was thinking maybe San Manuel.

Morongo is located near Cabazon (towards Palm Springs I-10) and San Manuel is in San Bernardino.

No if you don't pay, it goes to collections and ruins your credit.

It's clear Chase had money issues around the time of the murders. And medical bills can kill a person, almost literally. This is before ACA. And testimony from Metro Sheet employee Carmen Garcia and Joe S. involved a discussion as to how in 2009 business was bad, and everyone was seeing an increase at the start of 2010.
