It's unfortunate that some reporter used this devasating event to stir controversy instead of public sentiment for a missing, elderly man who needs help. That said, I have to hope that many of us know the government's whip is arbitrary, devisive, and not always about about truth or justice. Sadly, these departments need to justify their budgets so they pick a target and with machine like precision, they destroy it. When they report to the powers that be, they get patted on the back for outrageous settlement amounts and their jobs are secure for another year.

In researching online for clues and information anout John, I came across more than one individual who praised John's hard work and committment to his career. I read about market newsletters he distributed starting in the 1970s that many looked forward to receiving. I came across a group of realtors who respected John and even a few who felt they owed their success to him and referred to him as a guru. There are many colleagues who spoke highly about John so it's a shame his character has been publically attacked and if it's a factor in LEs decision to offer minimal support, it's very unfortunate. I hope John's loved ones find their bearings and the strength to perservere. I have nothing but good wishes and hope for them.

Thank you for this! There is so much to be said--at a later date--about exactly what these accounts in the press have gotten wrong. But what you've discovered through your research is absolutely true. I'm impressed by your research and grateful for this post.

First, I'm afraid the detective in charge of the case has declined to request the help of Texas Equuisearch. He does not intend to put more time into this case unless we find an important new clue. Luckily! We still have our PI working away, and we are all working on different projects. A couple of us are working are working on contacting mental hospitals, shelters, and pawn shops throughout an ever expanding radius. A couple folks are working through every detail of John's life we can piece together and looking for possible clues or people to speak with. A few people are still working backwards through John's computer and google cache. And then we've got folks working on the video I mentioned above.

None of this has produced anything that feels definitely significant or like a solid lead yet. But there are a couple of things we're trying to piece together that might lead to a lead . Too diffuse and flimsy for me to share here yet--but I'll update you guys as soon as we have anything solid!

I have faith that you and your team will find what it takes to allow TES to become involved. They are a top notch outfit IMO, and I truly believe they would be SO helpful in the search for John.

I admit I'm not understanding the hesitance on LE's part, but that's just me. The cases I've been personally involved in did not have such resistance. :sigh:

I truly believe that progress will steadily be made. I'm not giving up hope, and I'm certain I'm not alone in this regard.

Your team approach, delegating different tasks, is really a model for DIY finding a missing loved one. The link below emphasizes how important it is for families to be involved with the missing person case. This link is from an article by David Van Norman, who was/still is? coroner for San Bernardino county. He gives excellent advice, which I've posted before on other threads. Please follow it! Even more so now that the APD detective isn't actively involved. You're doing great!

A missing person is too important to be left to one person. Those family members who wish to "leave it to the professionals," and sit back on the couch to let the police do the work will probably get out of this what they put into it. I prefer the Team Approach, with the family involved in a productive way. We must help law enforcement to accomplish this mission, and if they do not know how, we can show them the way.

Will law enforcement accept your assistance? Perhaps not willingly. We in law enforcement tend to think that we don't need any help, and some investigators will view the family as hindrance. That's too bad. The missing person is YOUR LOVED ONE. You may have to be insistent. You may ruffle some feathers. Is there anything more important?"

Perhaps the APD detective should read the link below addressed to LE by Van Norman. He minces no words!

"So, it all comes down to this: That missing person under investigation by your agency is on this planet somewhere. Regardless of whether they are actively hiding from us, or returned to their families two weeks after they were reported missing and are ignorant of our search for them, or they are being held against their will by a madman and need our help, or they are dead in my morgue - if the missing person should be found, and they are unwilling or unable to identify themselves, what have you done to ensure that they will be identified? .....Your professional responsibility is to put into play those items that will allow your missing person to be detected when they cross law enforcement’s radar – in whatever way!"

I've been away for a few days but wanted to say that you, John and his family have been in my thoughts and prayers. You ALL are amazing!

Just checking in and hoping for some good news.
Also, I'm guessing you have already covered this but has there been any activity on John's email account? If he had a gmail account and you all could log in, you could easily check recent activity. If there was any, it would provide you with the city where the login occurred. Another idea would be to check activity on any online sites John may frequent....or just perhaps googling any known usernames. This might also help you to create a timeline of what his focus may have been leading up to his disappearance.

I think what I connect to with John's case is he reminds me of my dad. The old school kind they don't seem to make much anymore. These dads shoulder so much responsibility without a complaint and they value family and committment. So it just really saddens me to see a man like that reach such a stress point because it must have been an incredible weight he carried.
Hoping for positive news and strength for his loved ones.

Yeah..i think there's plenty of chance for a happy ending with john and his family. He just has to find the strength to come to terms...im sure he's tired but i dont read him as some one who gives up..just resets.

Yes, John is a veteran. I believe Joy said he did not see combat. The VA hospital in the vicinity of Lands End has been contacted. If you're asking for another reason, we're interested in any ideas.

I like the thought that he is somewhere "resetting" rather than giving up. I hope he phones home soon.

JoyM, may you know how much support you have here. Your no-stone-unturned approach to finding John has been incredible, and I know you will continue on until he is found.

My father (who passed away on 2/27/95) was a veteran of 3 wars, and hearing that John is also a Veteran really tugs at my heartstrings. I spent a LOT of time at the Presidio and Letterman Army Hospital as a child when he was ill.

I don't know if this is a factor in all of this, but it just makes me want him home EVEN MORE (and I didn't think that was possible) :moo:

As I've said before, we are here for you, to lean on, to listen, and to help in any way we can. I wish there was more we could do.
