Do we know if his family ever provided DNA in case this happened?

Do we know if his family ever provided DNA in case this happened?

I posted recently that they hadn’t and checked again tonight and there is still no DNA, dental or fingerprints. The case file was opened on 2/12, three days after JB disappeared. They mention the BART station and where he might have gotten off. No mention of the sighting at Lands End except a file at the end containing his “last known photo.” In other words, once they opened his case on NamUS, it wasn’t updated to make it a strong profile. Perfunctory. Was that because they couldn’t face the thought of having to identify remains or because they knew that would never be necessary. But IIRC he’s been legally declared dead, but don’t quote me.

Welcome back! IIRC you were ill? If so I hope you’re better. If not, I hope you enjoyed your break. It’s good to see you again. :)

I met his family a few days after he left (I live near San Francisco, and saw someone who matched his description) - and the family isn't withholding any information. They got in the car within 15 minutes of getting my message. We even put flyers up with the picture of him at Land's End. So, if that picture isn't on the website it's not because of the family. I don't know about dental records etc. At the time they were told that if John had jumped it would take about 2 weeks for the body to come around from the ocean into the Bay - where it would be found. 2 years later, and....nothing. Also no sign of the thing he was carrying the papers in - which I thought was plastic - which is also really weird. So sad for them. Every time this kind of news comes in they must go through hell. :(:::

Missing Person Case

I wonder what’s with the symbols and numbers where it seems words should be. Just reading back as a refresher and it’s like trying to read Greek, lol.

Yes, it’s certainly hard to read and I mentioned it when the new software was installed. As far as I can tell, the symbols show up when there is a contraction and seem to be triggered by an apostrophe. That’s how I decifer the words. Is it just on my posts, or others too?

Thanks for your input. Yes, I know the family put a lot of effort in when John disappeared...and thank you for helping! I didn’t mean that they were “withholding” information from the NamUS profile, but that it needs their attention to be a strong one for identifying remains. The photo of John at Land’s End is in his NamUS profile at the end, and not in a prominent position where it really belongs as his last known photo. I believe they can ask LE for their help in updating the profile with dental and DNA, etc. to make it stronger.

I’m sure the discovery of bones is always an awful feeling for them. It’s heartbreaking that there has been no news in over two years. I wonder what happened regarding the remains we’ve mentioned previously. Without John’s DNA and dental he may not ever be matched to anything found, or at least there would be a huge delay while these are gathered.

I have noticed it here and there in other threads, not sure what to make of it.

I doubt it would be him if he went into the water close to home. I found the=is flow chart of the currents and the flow is out and downwards. He would have floated against the current if I am reading this chart correctly. Great find tho!

Yeah, I’m sure you’re right. Thanks nannymo

I need to stop flip flopping on this case. I finally think he’s some where on an island with a drink in his hand and his toes in the sand.

You’re not the only flip flopper, I change my mind every time I think about it.

Anyone know if his wife still owns the house? Is she still close to the kids? Just wondering....

I don’t remember if she lost the house. I expect her kids have remained close with her. Hope so, anyway.
