Found Deceased CA - Jolissa Fuentes, 22, Selma, 7 Aug 2022

  • #121
In all, law enforcement has devoted 15 hours of flight time, 20 hours on roads, 43 hours in water, and 288 hours near the last pinged area searching for the woman.

The area she may have last been is known to be large and difficult.

The searches are happening outside of Selma in the foothills since that’s where police believe she last was.

Tips have been coming in from New Mexico to Fresno County.

Those researching her social media say a 22-year-old with no digital data is very rare.

I think it was the way the articles were written?

“She had attended a party at a friend's house the night before, and stopped at her grandmother's place to pick up a bag and some money before driving to the AM/PM.”

It didn’t say she went home or went to her parents house. I interpreted the article as she went to her grandmother’s house to pick up a bag and cash at 3am. I guess I made the wrong assumption that she got the cash from her grandmother based on how articles were written. JMO

She lives with her grandmother.

Facebook Group, admin is her sister, Irene.
Irene's post clarifies how they know when she got home and what she took from home (now that I read this I believe someone else had posted about her contacting her brother when she got home from the party- before she left for AM/PM)

On the "Find Jolissa Fuentes" FB page there is a post from an hour ago that states Adventures with Purpose have searched Avocado Lake and her car is not there. Pine Flat Lake next?

Probably. There is the Kings River in the area too but I don’t know how full it is at the moment.

The group of volunteer search and rescue divers arrived in Selma Wednesday evening. They'll search for Jolissa for three days, and plan to check the area around Pine Flat, where Jolissa's phone last pinged.

"The water is something we are not able to get into and look deep down so they were perfect," said Sandra Archuleta, aunt of Jolissa Fuentes.

Thursday morning and afternoon, the nonprofit spent the day at Avocado Lake, about 7 miles from Pine Flat.

Jolissa's family told FOX26 News they're hoping the divers don't find anything; they remain hopeful that Jolissa is still alive. Still, the Fuentes family said, they'd like to check the area so they can clear it from their list of places Jolissa might be.

"We're hoping that she is still out there and found safe," Bishop said.

The team will continue their search at Pine Flat on Friday.

Does anyone have extensive knowledge on how cell towers work to explain some things?

I plotted out the 3 towers nearest to where she last pinged. The one closest is about 5 miles away, and to my knowledge, if they wanted to triangulate her location her phone would have needed to hit 3 cell towers. Had she taken the 180, she would have hit all 3 towers. I know range varies widely, but at the most her's would be 5 miles due to the proximity to the other towers. I used that 5 mile measurement to mark out the radii because if her range was wider than that, she would have at least pinged the closer tower at some point, right? There is, in theory, no coverage beyond the Avocado tower boundary because there is no tower up there in that direction. Would this explain why they are focusing on Avocado Lake, Pine Flat Lake, and Timmer? Had she taken an alternate route, say Elwood, 180, or N Piedra, she would have pinged those other towers along the way, correct?

i dont either but it does run along that road
Apparently, the only bodies of water high enough currently for her car to be submerged fully into are Avocado Lake and Pine Flat Lake. In the areas where the rivers are high enough, she would have to have been speeding very excessively to go over the edge far enough to make it to the bank hundreds of feet across, almost impossible to do on those winding roads. Even then there would be tracks at her entry point. The only way to get into Pine Flat Lake would be from the docks/marinas and that would be a straight path in. If she's in water, she's in Pine Flat Lake.

it happens all the time tho. i cant remember her name but another woman was missing for months when she similarly crashed into a river from a road that went along a river. she was coming from santa paula and headed somewhere in the valley and i believe she was found in the kings or kern river, i cant recall her name tho.

but she may very well be in pine flat. (i hope in none)

The group was at Pine Flat Lake on Friday looking for Jolissa Fuentes, the 22-year-old who has been missing for more than two weeks. They searched Avocado Lake on Thursday.

According to Selma police, Fuentes’ phone pinged around the Pine Flat and Avocado Lake area, which is what prompted Adventures with Purpose to offer help and why they were searching the lakes.

Jolissa Fuentes’ mother, Norma Nunez, left, and aunt Sandra Archuleta, right, are seen as search teams with Adventures with Purpose begin their search for Jolissa Fuentes at Pine Flat Lake’s Deer Creek marina Friday morning, Aug. 26, 2022 in Fresno.

I do not disagree at all, but according to locals there is very little chance of her being in the rivers because the water is too low for her car to be submerged and now that we know she's not in the lakes, she is most likely hidden by vegetation and trees above or right next to the water rather than inside it fully. Even with a drone, even with a helicopter, it would be extremely difficult to spot her or the car, let alone accessible enough for people to search on foot due to all of the obstructions.

I'm going to check some long term parking areas tomorrow to look for the car, but I still kind of feel that she had an accident in the foothills or mountains. Note: I don't want her to have. It's just that her car was missing, she was last seen when it is dark and there isn't much open, her phone last pinged up the hill, and she was planning to smoke.

Her family/friends/volunteers are doing a good job of putting up missing posters. I saw them all over the southeast side of Fresno yesterday when I went to do errands during my lunch hour. Was impressed with how many I saw.

What would be the next logical step to finding Jolissa?

Jolissa has been weighing heavily on my mind lately ): maybe it's the fact that she lives in the same state, maybe it's because she's young too. Either way, nothing is sitting right with me. The longer she's gone, the more I worry there was foul play involved. Considering she's lost 2 close friends to violence, I'm starting to worry she may have been collateral in gang violence, common in that area. I've lived in an area with heavy gang activity all of my life and it's not uncommon for them to target family members of anyone they feel they need to punish or retaliate against, which usually isnt for much either. The main thing that makes me speculate this is the inability to find her car, if someone was watching her or targeting her, they very well could have taken her car to a chop shop and had it across borders within hours without detection because there are only 2 cameras on the highway. This isn't as uncommon as you'd think unfortunately. It's more likely she's hidden by trees and brush, but a car would be a bigger liability especially if someone with a record has been inside of it beforehand. She could have been followed and run off the road or had her car hit on purpose to get her to stop. This could explain the phone calls to her sister, when i was in an accident the first person i called was my big brother. Usually gangs make examples of people for intimidation purposes so it wouldn't make sense to not leave her out in the open unless there was evidence to bury and they needed time to do so. This is all speculation of course, she very well could have just been in an accident and is covered by the elements and that's why there's no trace of her. But if there is foul play, imo there would need to be multiple people who are highly experienced and organized to pull off something of this nature to avoid detection for so long.

I dunno, what do you guys think?

I would hope her family would reveal any possibility of this being gang related. What are the possibilities of her running off? Do you think law enforcement would devote enough time and effort to review her phone data or online activities?

I had a close friend who stayed in the near by town of Wonder Valley for a few months. While there she encountered a few hard core white supremacists in the area. She said one literally had racist signs and a Pig’s head mounted on a stick in his yard. She said everyone in the area knew to stay away from their land. If Jolissa was driving and had car trouble or wandered onto the property of someone like this, I fear it wouldn’t be good.
