Found Deceased CA - Jolissa Fuentes, 22, Selma, 7 Aug 2022

What would be the next logical step to finding Jolissa?
I've been thinking about this and I think without more data or tips, searches around where her phone last pinged could continue, I just don't know how often our local law enforcement would do them. I think without a more precise location of where to search I think the searches are going to end up being scaled down and maybe almost nonexistent.

Jolissa has been weighing heavily on my mind lately ): maybe it's the fact that she lives in the same state, maybe it's because she's young too. Either way, nothing is sitting right with me. The longer she's gone, the more I worry there was foul play involved. Considering she's lost 2 close friends to violence, I'm starting to worry she may have been collateral in gang violence, common in that area. I've lived in an area with heavy gang activity all of my life and it's not uncommon for them to target family members of anyone they feel they need to punish or retaliate against, which usually isnt for much either. The main thing that makes me speculate this is the inability to find her car, if someone was watching her or targeting her, they very well could have taken her car to a chop shop and had it across borders within hours without detection because there are only 2 cameras on the highway. This isn't as uncommon as you'd think unfortunately. It's more likely she's hidden by trees and brush, but a car would be a bigger liability especially if someone with a record has been inside of it beforehand. She could have been followed and run off the road or had her car hit on purpose to get her to stop. This could explain the phone calls to her sister, when i was in an accident the first person i called was my big brother. Usually gangs make examples of people for intimidation purposes so it wouldn't make sense to not leave her out in the open unless there was evidence to bury and they needed time to do so. This is all speculation of course, she very well could have just been in an accident and is covered by the elements and that's why there's no trace of her. But if there is foul play, imo there would need to be multiple people who are highly experienced and organized to pull off something of this nature to avoid detection for so long.

I dunno, what do you guys think?
I think it's more likely there was some kind of accident and she was possibly intoxicated or disoriented enough that she couldn't get out or get help. Gang violence is an issue here in the valley but considering her phone pinged in the Avocado Lake area, I think she might have gotten lost and/or in an accident.

I am afraid you're right. There needs to be some real momentum otherwise it is in danger of the case going cold and the family will be left without their loved one or answers.

According to this article, AWP searched Avocado Lake and Pine Flat Lake and didn't find anything. I'm worried she may not be found for a while.

I would hope her family would reveal any possibility of this being gang related. What are the possibilities of her running off? Do you think law enforcement would devote enough time and effort to review her phone data or online activities?
Well, you don't always know what all of your kids are up to. Most of the people I grew up with were gangbangers as early as 6th grade and their parents often had no clue they were spinning the block with people. Just being associated was risky, the boys I grew up with were gunned down mere feet from our house. It's senseless and really sad, but who you associate with really can impact you more than you'd like sometimes. I personally don't think she ran off, I don't think she had any intentions of being out more than a few hours and I think it was routine for her to smoke alone to clear her head. This is supported by the family too, and they were all super close so their judge of character is best trusted in this situation imo. I think that if she ran away, she'd have been found and spotted by now. I think they did a good job working with the little data they have, Jolissa didn't have Instagram, snapchat, or Google set up so they are working with very little data. Her Facebook logins didn't show anything, and her location pinged from the phone calls she made to her sister. If there is something LE knows from these logs, they're not sharing it because they want to preserve the integrity of the investigation if there is indeed evidence of foul play.

I had a close friend who stayed in the near by town of Wonder Valley for a few months. While there she encountered a few hard core white supremacists in the area. She said one literally had racist signs and a Pig’s head mounted on a stick in his yard. She said everyone in the area knew to stay away from their land. If Jolissa was driving and had car trouble or wandered onto the property of someone like this, I fear it wouldn’t be good.
This is honestly so alarming ): really hoping she's wasn't the victim of a hate crime it would be so heartbreaking

Well, if Jolissa isn't in the water - what could we be looking at? An undiscovered car accident somewhere in the ping radius?
Have drones flown that area yet?

Foul play is also a possibility. Leaving on her own doesn't make sense to me, based on what her family says, but has to remain a low probability IMO.

I'm sad her family still doesn't have answers yet :(

Agree. I think given the late hour, the video at the convenience store where she appears intoxicated & wobbly, the fact she bought a cigar and told her brother she was going to smoke (weed), and that she didn’t drive straight home after visiting the store, all point to her most probably having had an accident on her way back from smoking (after she tries to FaceTime her sister early that morning).

The best shot at finding her at this point, IMHO, is to continue to do searches along the winding roads along the route and near where her phone last pinged.

May she be found soon.

I think you are right about searching.Have there been professional Search and Rescue teams looking? My county sheriff's office up north has trained a volunteer S&R team that even has searchers on horseback. She deserves as much searching as possible.

I have to say, the number of hours of search don’t seem super high to me—but this can be for a lot of reasons.
Jolissa is not a minor, and there isn’t evidence of foul play yet, so it’s not easy to mobilize massive search resources.
I know the family had some folks out there with drones etc. I am actually looking at satellite images now, to see if i can see anything (not likely, but I’m new to it) but it does seem like the search effort is not professionally organized and could stand to be a whole lot stronger.

Just did a quick search and to me it sounds like he means they're proceeding as it could possibly be criminal or foul play, like maybe they're considering it as foul play in case information they get leads to that?

I've seen in the local Facebook group for finding Jolissa that a few people have taken their drones out to different areas. I do feel that the family, friends and local citizens have probably done more searching than LE. Not accusing LE of anything, they may not have a lot of resources, but it just seems like the family has done almost non-stop searching.

Seriously?! What is wrong with people?

I feel like this (MOO) maybe is a not very common way of saying that they are preserving facts such that, if there is evidence of foul play uncovered, they haven’t done anything to jeopardize their case against a perpetrator or perpetrators.

I still want to hold out hope that maybe she just escaped for some peace for a minute. Hopefully to pop up somewhere and call her Grandmother or sister.

Just reacting spontaneously here, sorry if I missed information.

For now, going through the whole thread.

What is so chilling about saying I'll be right back?...brother, grandma...who was it? What a BS in this reporting all together and an "off" headline, but we are getting used to that, sadly.

Her grandmother must have known her demeanor....why go to your grandmothers home for a bag (what was in the bag?weed)? and money in the mids of the night? What is the explanation for that? An excuse because she felt so sad? Or did she have a key to her grandmothers house and she slept, noticing money and a bag missing? Her calling a sister: I can imagine calling my brother (who lives in another part of the country) in the mids of the night if I would be an emotional wreck (meaning very drunk and overly emotional, sobbing) and needed to talk to someone close. If I was feeling in danger I would call somebody close to home/hometown/the place I'm at, who could physically do something and drive up.

Video at the convenience store: About the clerk in the store. He makes a strange gesture with his hands, what does it mean? BTW...never knew you use a cigar for smoking weed, learned something new. :) Never saw somebody doing it over here (the Netherlands) She looks agitated or drunk. Her family says she was buying a snack but it turns out to be a cigar...
