Two day care workers in Rancho Cucamonga were arrested after a child suffered a skull fracture, and the two allegedly concealed the injury from the child's mother, authorities said.

Rudie Megan Maldonado, 29, of San Bernardino, and Felicia Ann Ferra, 50, of Yorba Linda, were arrested on suspicion of child abuse and conspiracy, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said in a new release.

On Sept. 4, an 8-month-old baby boy was admitted to Loma Linda University Medical Center's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with a skull fracture.

Officers from the department's Specialized Investigations Division, Crimes Against Children Detail arrived at the hospital to investigate, and they learned of allegations of physical abuse. The two work at Kiddie Academy, located at 7220 Victoria Park Ln. in Rancho Cucamonga, the department said.

Maldonado and Ferra were arrested and accused of neglecting and abusing the boy, and then trying to hide it from his mother.

Maldonado was booked at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino, and bail was set at $100,000, however she bailed out.

Ferra was booked into the West Valley Detention Center.

Though the alleged crime took place in September, authorities were releasing photos now as they believe there may be more possible child abuse victims.

"We are aware of the serious allegations against an assistant teacher and the director of the Kiddie Academy of Rancho Cucamonga, California. We are committed to working with the franchise owners to ensure full cooperation with local authorities.  As an organization, there is nothing more important than creating environments where a child’s intellectual, emotional and physical development flourishes. We remain committed to ensuring all franchisees maintain our world-class standards," the Kiddie Academy Domestic Franchising statement read.

Well now, a skull fracture and intensive care for an 8 month old. I am glad the baby boy is still alive, but he may be only barely alive. Dunno.
WTH was so bad that they did that to a little baby? What, what??
Crying too loudly? Then pick him up and walk around the room or rock him in a rocking chair. If he's crying because he's sick, call his mom or caregiver. Dammit.

Several parents, who spoke with CBS reporters off camera, admitted that they are somewhat unsurprised by the disturbing news. Many of those same parents have taken their children out of the daycare after witnessing questionable acts, including a teacher pulling a little girl around the classroom by her leg. The person who witnessed this incident was afraid to report it, due to their undocumented immigrant status.

Another mother reported that her child appeared frightened every time they arrived, detailing that she was often left alone in a room with the 24 other children in the daycare, with no teacher in sight – or even assigned to supervise them. The same mother also noted that on several instances she saw babies lying unattended on the floor, with no pillows, blankets or cushions in the vicinity, and one of the babies was also lying in front of a door.

Shut it down if it's not already closed. And then you've got families with no care the next day...but this can't stand.
Good inexpensive childcare is hard to find, especially these days, but this one seems to be a danger zone IMO. Some people simply cannot stay home with children -- there may be only one person in the house who can work -- and this type thing has been seen before. Unlicensed day-care places, etc., understaffed, untrained personnel, and low pay. And this that we're seeing here...

It's a scary situation. We have got to fix this problem. It's everywhere.
There are things in the works via the federal gov't, but it's not here yet. SMH.

What does someone do with a very limited budget, a by-the-hour job that is barely covering the expenses that have been pared down as much as possible, no other family to help, and someone who may or not be an undocumented immigrant and too afraid to ask for help? Unthinkable, yet it exists.
