In case this was not already included. Here is the route Kiely would have driven to get home from the party.

What about all the back roads? If she was intoxicated, she could’ve taken those instead of her regular route in order to avoid LE and got lost/no cell service/etc

In addition, more than 100 volunteers met at the local recreation centre on Tuesday, where her family is staying in a camper, eager for a lead.

“We’re gonna find her, we are gonna find her, we’re not to be f***ed with here,” one loved one was overheard saying.

There are 10 personnel from the Hasty Team on the scene – a sub group from Washoe County Sheriff’s Office who specialise in diving.

Sami Smith, 18, a close friend of Kiely’s, has been leading the search with the teen’s family as they speak to many of the attendees at an unregulated party at a local campground with the 16-year-old before she went missing.

“She was telling her mom she was going to be the designated driver because that’s how she was going out to the party, giving an alibi so that her mom didn’t freak out and say, ‘I want you home earlier,’” Smith told US Sun.

“The person she said she was going to drive out actually drove me out there, so I know she only drove one friend out.

“She planned on getting drunk and getting f***ed up. I asked her earlier on in the night if she could take me home, but she was in no fit state to drive.

“The last recording sighting of her was 12.40am, I was the last person to speak to her at 12.36am when she asked me if I still needed a ride home.

“Now we know there were a lot of college people, teens are coming out in our teen-to-teen talks. There were a lot of sketchy, older guys that were seen there. This was right about when I left, when we had the last contact.

“She had asked her mom for a later curfew, she was going to text her mom saying she couldn’t find her friend which is why she’d be home late. I don’t think she ever sent that text.

SBM- This (asking and being approved for a later curfew) was described by Kiely’s mother as well, in one of the articles over the last couple days.

It cooled off enough to head for run. There were a ton of S&R on my loop yesterday… trucks have been all over today too. I normally don’t run with a phone… but I’ll bring it tonight. I’ll try and take a few pics….
Oh you know here we always say Run with a phone!

Perhaps a local could post a map showing possible back road routes. Most of us wouldn't have a clue what ways she might go except to leave on Alder Creek.

SS stated that KR wouldn't ever drink + drive but the fact KR called SS at 12:35am, drunk, checking if SS still wanted a ride home makes me believe KR was fully intending on driving and her friends must have known? imo she might have already been sitting in her car to call SS to get away from the noise of the party.
Also KR's mother stating KR was going to wake her up to let her know she got home safe, as was usual for them, makes me think KR wasn't planning on staying overnight at the campground. I know that convo happened around 1130pm though. Maybe she was planning on staying out but changed her mind?
But it also makes me wonder why SS assumed KR would stay at the campground if they discussed KR driving SS home at some point? Was KR going go drive her home and then go back to the campground?
These are all just my thoughts and opinions. Just want to clarify I'm not suspecting SS at all, I just am confused about the conflicting statements in interviews.
If people witnessed her drunk and knew she was intending to drive, they might feel guilty now that they didn't stop her. (Not blaming anyone if a tragic accident occurred - Sometimes it can be very hard to reason with an intoxicated person - especially if said person is convinced they're "fine"). They might also feel they are "snitching" on her - even if she has tragically passed away.
I hope that EVERYONE with information will feel comfortable enough to be fully transparent with what they know.
I'll just say I'm glad they are checking the water.
Hoping for answers soon for KR's family and friends and community.

Eta: just saw imstillagrandma's post. So she was never planning to stay out overnight

With today's phone map technology, getting lost (even with no cell service) is hard to do. Direction apps will also provide you with the best route. If she's tired, intoxicated (as her friend referenced that she was), she is "plug and go." Meaning, she's following the app directions (ie., no back roads).

Ha! I was going to say the same thing. @Runin530mtns is new here and hasn‘t seen what we’ve seen! When my husband goes out for a walk in our small town, I always say “Do you have your phone, wallet (for ID), walk carefully (we’re old), I love you.” :)

I am thinking something happened with someone at the party.

This article says that older boys showed up and that she was seen with some older boys who came down from Reno who they assumed had heard about the party on SM. If true I wonder if she was drugged and they took her car & her. Like maybe one of them drove her car out of there. This also states she was going to text her mom an alibi saying she couldn't find her friend and would be home later.

Wait so now she was never planning on staying overnight at the party site?
I can't keep up...

Now the "planned on getting drunk". Changes again and again. They were out of their tree.

Its just not safe to send kids to these events. We know they are not going to toast marshmellows.

Respectfully, disagree. I grew up in a small mountain town just like this not too far away. I went to plenty of parties just like this in the woods. Parties like this one are common for small mountain towns. Kids don’t have a house and they go into the woods to party. It’s nothing new.

Local kids would always take the backroads to avoid the police (ESPECIALLY if intoxicated). Also if there is only one main highway or road covered in LE patrolling.

This was 10-15 years ago so I am sure not much else has changed besides navigation/gps technology.

IMO this will not end well.

A lot of resources and nothing so far so IMO this means that Kiely is not too close to where she was last seen.

The 2 most likely scenarios are car accident or murdered.

I hope I am wrong though.

I’d be cautious about giving a lot of credence to this publication. They are considered a tabloid and are known to print things that don’t hold up to fact-checking. Some of these quotes we haven’t seen before.

No, that publication is Aussie MSM. Not one of our tabloids. But I think the article is running with things it has read in US media (including a tabloid, The Sun).

We use the Daily Telegraph a lot on WS, in Aussie cases. Its fact checking is far above and beyond media like the Daily Mail, for example. And it actually has some prestigious and award winning journalists - Janet Fife Yeoman is one.
I can't imagine that it would be more accurate, in this case, than US media though.

This is The Sun article it took a quote or two from .. things said by SS and MB.

We bring our own experiences into the conversation. That is great! Honestly, I haven't been a teenager in quite some time, so I only have my kids' experiences to live vicariously by.

From my understanding, KR didn't get intoxicated much (if at all, depending on the source). As she is 16-years-old, just not sure she has had her license long enough to acquire enough experience to understand what to do in these situations.

But, those are my thoughts. Maybe I didn't live dangerously enough. :)

So she did lie to her mother, telling her she was the DD all the while planning to get drunk? And after she was drunk she still planned on driving home and driving Sami home? Sigh.

Also, what happened to the person Kiely drove to the party? How did that person get home? jmo

So if we are going with what the AU Sun article says:

Friends knew that:
1) KR was planning on getting very messed up ("messed" is my censored word for what was actually said)
2) KR never planned on staying out overnight - she was just going to tell mom she couldn't find her friend so would be home later
3) SS wanted a ride from KR when she knew KR was planning on being messed up- then found another ride at some point

What was KR's plan to get home if she drove herself, planned to get messed up, and was planning to go home?
Either drive herself home or try to find a ride while at the party from another friend or stranger who also may or may not be inebriated? And then explain to her mom why her car is still at the party site the next day if she was the supposed DD?
It really doesn't sound like there was a plan for KR to get home other than driving herself while intoxicated

All jmo
