Yeah, at first I thought she parked further down but apparently not. There was a post with a green circle the other day showing where some parked their cars close to the beach so originally I thought she parked there.

Press conferenceI will say that after hearing the LE official state that helicopter searches are only about 15% effective (or did he say 5%? does anyone recall his statistic?), I'm leaning toward the use of drone searches for all future endeavors. After watching the PI's drone videos several times, it is so obvious that the reflection of the sky in the water can totally obscure what you see beneath the surface but if you're skilled at maneuvering the drone and its camera, you can change the angle, hover in one spot, change the angle again, only shoot at certain times of the day where there's bound to be less reflection, use the sun to your advantage and don't let it obscure things best as possible, and so on. That's not to say you can always see beneath the surface, but it seems to trump a helicopter moving quickly. Obviously a helicopter has its benefits as well, esp if you're looking for a vehicle in an open area, or something that may be sticking out of the water, but after they get past that initial frantic phase and if they have a smaller search area to target... we need LE offices to be equipped with drones.
Thank you! That clears up the question of whether she parked near the beach or on the road to the party. From the footage, we can see that she parked near the road.
That means that she took two wrong turns to end up in the reservoir.

I agree. It looks like she parked fairly close to the party. The question I have is how could she make two wrong turns, end up on the beach and drive 50+ yards along the shore and straight into the reservoir. Now with SS stating where KR parked my view has changed. She didn't attempt to drive the shoreline home.
Possible. That would explain turning right after leaving the party road. If she drove down that road to the shore, she should have noticed that the road was under water. If she turned around, and forgot that she turned right at the fork in the road - then turned right at the fork on the return trip, that would leave her driving straight into the reservoir - especially if there was a bit of a steep drop of 5-10 feet at the water's edge. Thanks @windrower. I appreciate your Dingley participation too. That was indeed a tough case... and sad, like this one!
You know, the Google Maps research that @wnk did up thread (just catching up from last night, wow!) struck me as a possible scenario here. He/she found that Google Maps plots two options to exit the party location. One is the one we all know about and then the one that we've come to know as the 'white road' from @otto, that may only be passable in winter.
What if poor KR used her GPS (a 2013 car model may not have great GPS) to get home and it took her on the white road? As we've all come to learn, the 'white road' is currently under water per the ariel photos of the 8/21 recovery effort.
ETA: last sentence for clarity
That's the one factor I can't get around either. If she did travel the beach, how did no one see her? Surely, she couldn't have been the only person or vehicle on the beach with that many people around.
Has anyone addressed the police tape that was on the beach? It was a squared off section in the upper right section of the picture. There were 2 orange cones not too far from it as well.

RSBMSeems like that would have been water's edge if the water was 4-5 feet higher. I wondered if they found shards of glass from the window (speculation).
Thanks!! 5%. Sad.Press conference
".......You know when you fly a helicopter over the air trying to identify if something is there, most places give that less than a 5% chance of probability of detection, meaning - if you flew over you only have a 5% chance of seeing something. You add trees and brush and bushes and dirt and all these other things and it becomes a pretty difficult task. Even though, once you find the answer on hindsight everything looks 20/20. The reality is - it's not that simple, it is pretty complex and it's tough. So, again, we're just appreciative that the resources came out and were help us in locating it...."
Here is @wnk's post I referenced with the two Google Map options and maps from the party location... one option (the 'white road' per your maps, @otto) goes into the water this time of year...Possible.
My left map is what Google Maps pulls up as the best route from the party back to the highway. But what's disturbing to me is that Google Maps still counts what you call "Route 1" as a viable route -- even if as you said, it's "across mud flats." If there were a mass exodus of cars driving very slowly along the default route at around 12:30, it is possible that Google Maps would have calculated the route along the beach / mud flats (basically into the water!) as another possible -- potentially faster -- route. Except that, from what I've heard on here from locals, that route doesn't actually exist. (Please correct me if I'm wrong about that!) Could it be that she was just trying to follow her GPS to this alternate route?
MOO.

Then what might be in the yellow tapped off area?Possible.
@Warwick7, I think if KR did, either on her own or following a GPS map, take the 'white road' from the party to the beach - that in winter is passable but now it is not - perhaps she saw the water, started driving on the beach (your #3 route), and something went wrong with her exit - perhaps she was going to fast, lost control of her car, it rolled into the water, etc. Then what might be in the yellow tapped off area?
Traveling along the shoreline I could see her throw out alcohol "things".
But since that's not likely the route she took---what's being tapped off??
That may only apply to murder cases as opposed to accidental death. Toxicology could take at least a month so I don't think we will know anything before then. Not sure if this has been posted but this could be telling as well when the autopsy results are in:
California law allows parents to seal child autopsy reports
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation Monday that allows legal guardians of murdered children to request that autopsy reports and medical records concerning the murder be permanently sealed from public inspection.www.rcfp.org

I was wondering if it could have been her tire tracks?Evidence of a collison?
This is 100% speculation. I want to be clear so no one freaks out. I'm putting it out there since there are people who investigate accidents.
I also put out the idea that there could be her phone or some part of her car, or her other belongings. (piece of her laptop, sticker from her phone, something that identifies/links to her.)
Or considering how rough the road is based on @Truckeeite account, maybe her CRV was damaged and leaking fluid, or something broke off that was obviously/likely, to trained eyes, a piece of a CRV?I was wondering if it could have been her tire tracks?
I think this is an important tidbit, @steeltowngirl. Thanks for finding this. This time of year it’s not unusual” to find an abandoned vehicle in the local reservoirs, Koehler said. “Teenagers will go four-wheeling and leave a vehicle out there.”
I find it interesting that roped off area is that far from where it appears her car entered the water. If there was some sort of evidence, I'd THINK it would have been closer to where the car went in, not that far away. I can't come up with anything that could have happened in a place that far off (not like it's miles but you know what I'm saying).I've modified the image using photoshop and added dots to mark the approximate corners of the squared off area near the beach.

There is really know way to know exactly where the car went in from what I have learned watching AWP. Cars can generally float for a short distance before sinking. Although, the way I saw the water flow described in an earlier post, it would seem unlikely her car would float in that direction (opposite of the flow towards the dam).I find it interesting that roped off area is that far from where it appears her car entered the water.
