Gerhartstreiter said that his brother, Christian Gerhartstreiter, was raised in the same house in Siegsdorf, Germany, where their mother continues to live today, and left for an exchange program at a Connecticut high school in 1978

In that article they are calling him an exchange student. And apparently that is what he told his family. But that is not the story according to the first family he lived with in the US. Exchange programs are sponsored. If this was really an exchange program, I wonder who the sponsor was? And why is no one talking about who the sponsor was?

In one of the links, Fox compared this man to "The Talented Mr. Ripley", and what I didn't realize is that the book was actually published in 1955- could he have actually fancied himself a "Ripley"? What a story of mystery.

Attorney: Rockefeller doesn't recall German past


Attorney Stephen Hrones spent about an hour with his client on Friday afternoon, hours after the Boston Herald and other publications reported that they had located the family of Christian Gerhartsreiter, a German exchange student who many now believe is the man identifying himself as Rockefeller.

After an hour with his client, Hrones said his client has "no memory of Germany or having a German brother", and says despite the media frenzy around the case, "no one has come up with anything" that proves Rockefeller is not who he said he is.

But Hrones acknowledged Rockefeller does speak German, and shared some other unusual tidbits - among them that Rockefeller claims to remember visiting Mount Rushmore as a child, and that he is unhappy with the selection of books available to him in jail. He has requested books about Paris in World War I and baseball.

Hrones said his client could remember "bits and pieces," including a childhood visit to Mt. Rushmore in a station wagon and a Scottish nanny.

Hrones said his client is "fine, calm, concerned, very rational. ... Naturally, he's very concerned being locked up in prison." He said Rockefeller had requested that he bring him a book on the rules of baseball and a book on Paris during World War I.

He also said that Rockfeller wanted to tell his story to the media, but Hrones wanted to decide the appropriate setting and ground rules.

Quite good taste. I too am am are ardent fan of the French during the Big War. Those nasty Germans' made it miserable. I think someone should send Rockerfeller......Gerhartsreiter a copy of "A History of the American Field Service"..........quite a good read about American's voluteering before we were actually in the war.

My husband who grew up in Pasadena, right next to San Marino.......had a second cousin's killed in that war and his name was Mills. His Aunt married John D. Archbold, the President of Standard Oil after the real Rockerfeller retired.

As we speak, John Dustin Archbold is buried in a magnificent tomb right across the road from John D. Rockerfeller. The REAL one.

Isn't life a trip!
