I agree that children should be monitored and actually spoken to by parents. One does not simply do something like this because they watched a video, there is much more deep down that is the root of this.

Ease of access to information and technology IS the world we live in now and parental approaches need to be adjusted accordingly.

Rock music, movies, TV, internet do not cause things like this to happen, but I do admit it has the potential to effect those that already have issues to begin with.

And Stuart Hazell and Mark Bridger were caught with child , that doesnt relate to legal consensual material, action movies or music

Normal, so-called "raging" teen hormones do not compel a teen boy to sexually assault and murder an 8 year old little girl.

IMO, to blame this heinous act on "teen hormones" is no better than saying "boys will be boys" - an archaic sentiment with which I vehemently disagree.

Normal teen boys are NOT sexually attracted to 8 year old children.

Whatever his sick and twisted compulsion may be, it is NOT due to any normal teen hormonal surge.

Raging hormones make teen boys want to have sex with other teen girls or women. And they do not cause any violent thoughts of any kind. Unless the teenager is a sick and twisted and disgusting monster to begin with. And thankfully that's rare. It is an incredible insult to teen boys to suggest that their hormones combined with the passing by a little girl could cause them to do such a horrific and a monstrous act.

You are right, in a sense. On their own they don't cause anyone to do anything. But in a kid that is hard wired to have the propensity to rape or kill they can be awful. There is also the matter of desensitisation that you need to consider. Films that were age over 18 rated (not sure of the rating system in the USA and other countries) 15 years ago have now been re-rated as 15 or in some instances 12. Video games are more realistic now than when Super Mario and Sonic the hedgehog were new. Lyrics in mainstream pop, rock and rap songs are far more explicit than they ever were before. There are academic studies that show these affect young men, especially, growing up. I've read them. I've cited them in work. Parents SHOULD be the biggest role model in children's lives but peer pressure is immense and some kids have far more respect for a rapper who is driving a flashy car, wearing designer clothes and rapping about "raping hoes" and "shooting homies" than their dad who is working minimum wage to keep the family fed.

It's harsh but that is the way life is now for some kids. They see a lot more, a lot younger, they are desensitised to violence in a way we never were. They grow up without good role models, with absent parents and with no moral guidance. 1 sex ed class taught about the mechanics of sex when they are 15/16 is no good for these kids. We, as parents and teachers, need to teach children, in an age appropriate way, about relationships, sex, , peer pressure and respect for themselves and one another all throughout their lives. Otherwise we end up with more kids who are raping and killing other children.

There is a difference with seeing women walk around in little to nothing, and having access to violent, dark, deviant, and also child . JMO

I imagine they have the same access as anyone as they have the internet although not that many have the money for it.

Thank you gitana, in fact thank you both. We must remember that sexual violence has little to do with hormones and everything to do with power and control. In fact it has been shown that female predators of whom were once thought of as "lucky boys" are the same predators as males with power and control issues motivated by self centered inclinations and often threats as well as other coercions.

I had raging hormones. I have never violated anyone much less raped or killed them. It is repulsive to normal people regardless of what they are exposed to. The bygone days are tame yes, but the content was consistent with the values 'at the time'.


This / violence discussion has wavered way beyond the thread topic, IMO. There is NOTHING in MSM about this kid and . We do not yet know his mental state. Further only one MSM story mentions any unofficial reference to COD. I would not doubt it but neither can I state it as fact.

I have heard the "just a teenage boy" excuse wayyyy too many times when families were justifying teens raping children (anyone follow the Duggars? It's apparently totally okay to molest little kids according to them as long as you're a teenager).

I think it's disgusting, and no, it's not okay even if he was "only" 14. I'm so sorry she was found this way. When I heard where she went missing I was worried, but I had hoped for better news.

I just jumped in on this case today. I didn't know there was a long list of RSOs in the area nor a "heroine highway." Going off the pics. I thought the apt complex looked "nice". Kind of new age industrial "green". Ironic that it was the "friendly" nice kid upstairs that ended her life.

Maddy's own mom called it "heroin highway" and said she told Maddy to stay away from that area. Which was pretty much where they lived.
