CA - Mass shooting at Gilroy Garlic Festival, 3 dead up to 11 injured, 28 July 2019

Disturbing portrait emerges of Gilroy Garlic Festival shooter

"Later on Monday, investigators searched the vehicle the gunman drove to the festival. Police said it was found on Laurel Drive, northeast of the park." - I wondered how he would be able to leave his family's home and make it to the park with a long rifle, however this location is a street that goes directly to the creek area surrounding the park, therefore he wouldn't have to cross multiple streets and have less chance of being spotted.

Disturbing portrait emerges of Gilroy Garlic Festival shooter

"When Legan didn’t come home after the shooting, his older brother, Rosino Legan, thought he’d been shot by the gunman, said Jerome Turcan, a family friend who trained Rosino Legan in boxing and martial arts for many years.

When Turcan heard on the radio that there had been a shooting in Gilroy, he called Rosino Legan and his father, Tom Legan.

Turcan said he got through to Rosino Legan , who said he was in the car with his cousin, searching for his younger brother.

Rosino Legan couldn’t find his brother and was thinking of going to the emergency room, Turcan said.

“They wanted to be sure he was OK. That was the last contact I had with him,” Turcan said. “And then I learned this morning it was Santino who did the shooting. It was shocking.”

Could you even imagine being this family?

No, I can't image being that family. From what little I've seen, the family seems like decent, healthy, active, established people in their community. The look like an all-American family who have gone through the child-raising years and are in that stage before the grandkids come along. Nice people, from what we can see at this point.

They must be absolutely devastated.

The other brother worried the perp was a victim in the shooting, which makes me think the shooter told his family he planned to attend the festival?

No matter how the family seems shocked he could do something like this, I do believe more things will be revealed about him.

Was he so crafty to fool everyone around him or did they see things that should have at least alarmed them, and they just tried to rationalize it away at the time?

I read he has Italian, and Iranian heritage. Is one of his parents from Iran or perhaps his grandparents were born there?

He seemed to have great disdain for women in his replusive online remarks.

Didnt he specifically say 'white women', calling them a very disgusting name? If so, I wonder where it comes from since it's very abnormal for anyone to identify any race, and gender as all being the same. I may have read his online comments incorrectly though.

Well said. This happens all too often.

Based on my limited understanding of "young-folk speech", I think his reference to folks from Silicon Valley was not actually aimed at women, although the slur refers to female anatomy. It's that all-too-common behavior of putting down white men he doesn't like by "feminizing" them. Still plenty misogynistic. It seems this shooter was just a creature of pure malevolence.

His grandfather was charged with raping his own daughter, according to articles on first page, and his father was training him to be a boxer.

Both have typical Christian given names and LEGAN surname, which I assume is NOT Iranian.

So if some report mentions he is "Italian Iranian" it would mean his mom has Iranian background.

But he shared xenophobic and misogynistic views of white supremacists and incels.

Family members had been posting about this girl all day on the look out for her. She had been separated from her parents and they called all hospitals and could not find her. It was stated her father was shot as well.

omg that is utterly heartbreaking! :(

Do you mean a particular comment that would explain why it is thought there is a 2nd shooter?

more how it started. if there was a second the person who the fund is for may have seen something.

Wow, DE that is an infamous name from the past. He was one cold blooded, scheming, entitled, pompous, evil young man. The most greedy, self-serving guy I ever spoke to on the phone. He had everything except "conscience." He had his parents and sister killed and then tried to sell their fur coats in a newspaper ad!
:)CVALDEZ:) Always good to read your posts... I know this is affecting you greatly. Take care, IQ.

thank you! yes this has been difficult.

yea de was something else.... smh

I feel his instagram account is strange. It had only been up for 4 days prior. He had only 1 follower. He posted 2 pictures on the day of the shooting. It just doesn't really make a lot of sense. I guess not a thing about this event really does. I'm sure his computer has all the answers to his motivation.

Omg, Human I never knew that before.

It's my understanding this his mother's father (maternal grandfather) is from Iran and anglicized his name upon immigration.

His father's father (paternal grandfather) was accused of raping his daughter in the 1980s (who would be the shooter's aunt), but I'm not sure if he was convicted. This happened many years before the shooter was born.

I certainly respect your opinion on his comments even though I did not get the same impression.

It seemed very gender, and race specific to me.

It made me wonder if he had been rejected in the recent past by someone he was interested in leaving him abnormally angry with all white women.

Just my opinion, and nothing more though.

pretty sad for his own family. i don't know about them but his brother searching and thinking he had been shot, and then come to find out it was his brother who did the shooting must have been hard.

i am from san jose, but among natives, not tech boom. this is of interest.

the tech boom has been quite literally displacing the natives w the soaring costs. i have nothing personal against the techies however i will be honest and admit that i wish a lot of the tech companies would move elsewhere. lol.

obviously, with the techies comes wealth and sometimes opulence. i believe that is what he was referring to w the w__ tw__ reference.... i agree with everything "Reasonable and Just" said but that added input.
