Wait .... WHAT!?!?!?!

As the OP, I too thought (after posting the thread) that it was a hoax, darn police!!!

And then her Uncle saying something like, when the truth comes out you all will be shocked (or something like that). And we, too, wanted to send him to the looney bin!

DH, you are in my prayers!

Exactly, JerseyGirl... WHAT?!?!

We all had such a laugh at DH's expense. I feel utterly awful! The truth, they say, is stranger than fiction. It certainly is in this case.

MM is a lunatic. I wonder if the "other" people he says were involved in the kidnapping are figments of his imagination? Even the second voice in the 2009 burglary could have been another "personality" presenting itself. This is of course assuming he is schizophrenic. All MO.

DH, you are in my thoughts and prayers, as well.

For what its worth, how often do you see a kidnapper sending a letter stating that the victim is telling the truth? That was unbelievable. This was a very unusual case. jmo

It is...baffling, crazy, strange. I'm still shaking my head after reading it. Grab a soda and a snack, because it is 60 pages long.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/271476364/Arrest-Warrant-Complaint-SEALED
Wow, just wow! Just finished reading it, glad I did. What an ego!!! He wants credit for his crimes without having to do the time, and he took a guy's Mustang(not the boyfriend), because "the kid deserved to lose his toy"!!! Yet he kept it, what Chutzpah!!! I'd like to let this guy have a piece of my mind. Property crimes are not victimless, nor did I begin to recover the value and sentimentality of my mother's stolen jewelry!!! And he minimizes his crimes by treating his victims "compassionately"! So my big question is, did he act alone, or does he have a couple of accomplices like he alleges?
Oh, and I forgot to add- he reported peeping toms and drug dealers to the police. Like he is so much better??? He may have been a Harvard professor, a lawyer, and a Marine, but he's just a common criminal who is whacked out!!:banghead::banghead::banghead:

It's because his ego wants credit for the crime, not because he wants her vindicated, otherwise he never would have kidnapped her. He continued to do home invasion robberies after her kidnapping, so he is a liar! I feel no sympathy for him.

I think the poor girl was raped as well. When the police called it a hoax I found it hard to believe because what would be the motivation for DH and her BF to stage such a hoax. Also, if you're going to stage a hoax it seems like you'd make it a little more believable. I thought the story was so wild it had to be true. Unfortunately, I think this happens more than we'd like to admit. I remember reading a story about a young teen girl who had been kidnapped and brutal raped and let go. When she went to the police they decided she was making it up because she didn't want to get in trouble with her parents for being gone for a few days. They ended up charging her with filing a false report. Later on it was discovered she was telling the truth. My heart aches for that little girl and for Denise. To be victimized again by the police and society after you survived something so terrible must truly feel like living in a bad dream you can't wake from.

After reading that 60 page document...and doing a map of where he was found in Lake Tahoe...

It is exactly where they triangulated the TRACphone used in March.

Documents say within 200 meters of Hank Monk Avenue and Horace Greeley Ave.

Family home in Tahoe - Genoa Ave.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/G...2!3m1!1s0x8099902bc753ceff:0x88687634372d28dd

So he took her to South Lake Tahoe, and not Huntington Beach? Tahoe is about a 5 hour drive from Vallejo. But from Tahoe to Huntington is 8+ hours in the other direction.

Strange. Really weird. Bizarre even! LOL!!
No, he took her to Huntington Beach from Vallejo, he was arrested in June at his mother's house in S. Lake Tahoe once they traced ownership of the phone.

And in the arrest warrant- he states that the 2nd time he raped her on camera was to make it more believable that they were boyfriend and girlfriend and to have something to hold over her!!! Geez, he's even got to steal a girlfriend, can't get one on his own.

How terrifying to be kidnapped by such a complete maniac! I couldn't find the exact report on the young girl I was talking about, but I did find another one http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...m-20-000-arrested-did-not-believe-claims.html

No amount of money could ever make up for the emotional damage done to these people who are victimized and then revictimized by the very people meant to protect them. You see cases like this in the news often where a young girl disappears and shows back up claiming to have been kidnapped and raped then released. Very quickly the police publicly say they think it's a made up story and everyone thinks they must know what they are talking about and the child must be a liar. It makes me wonder how many of these girls are telling the truth but will never be believed.

I found the one from Forensic Files that you are talking about:

(Actually, the police only doubted her story for one day, and no charges were filed against her -- horrid, scary story, though.)

This is one case I followed but never commented on because frankly the information that was being put out didn't make sense enough in order for me to compose a coherent thought. It was just bizarre. I'm so glad he was caught because who knows what his next brilliant idea would entail.

Same here.

The thing is, the perp might be partially thrilled to have been caught because everyone can now be amazed at what he pulled off.

I'm not finished reading the 60-page doc yet, but yet another fact in this case that surprised me is that they were able to track the purchase of his trac phone. LE figured out what Target store sold it and when it was purchased, so they could look at the video camera of the transaction at the check-out register. Aha - that's news to me! (Makes sense once I read it, though, as the bar-codes provide information.)

This is definitely one of those cases that you'd scoff at as unbelievable if it were in a book or movie.

i think he did take her to s lake tahoe, he had to take her somewhere overnight where he raped her and kept her in that locked room.

No, he took her to Huntington Beach from Vallejo, he was arrested in June at his mother's house in S. Lake Tahoe once they traced ownership of the phone.

Well, he definitely lied about stopping his life of crime, maybe he stopped the auto thefts and the kidnapping after her, but he was still breaking into homes with people home and attacking them!!!

Since the release of an FBI affidavit detailing Muller’s connection to the kidnapping, the public has awaited a response from Vallejo police and city officials.
"We take every investigation seriously. We have taken this one seriously from the very beginning, we continue to do so," said Vallejo City Manager Dan Keen.
Vallejo Mayor Osby Davis also was asked about the case at an event outside Vallejo City Hall Tuesday afternoon.
"It's a continuing criminal investigation handled by the FBI and I'll make no comments," said Davis.
FBI spokeswoman told KTVU they have asked Vallejo police to refer questions regarding suspect Matthew Muller to them, but said Vallejo police were not barred from talking about their own internal affairs.
When pressed on that issue, Davis reiterated the city’s position that they are unable to comment.
"As an attorney, I understand that things that are not specifically directed at a criminal prosecution could be brought in based upon some association. So no comment," Davis said.
"We are going to wait for the investigation to be complete before we conduct any type of review," said Vallejo Police Capt. John Whitney. Whitney said Vallejo police investigators have continued to work with the FBI on this case.
"All the investigators who were working from the start are still working in conjunction with the FBI," and added there are no plans to reassign those investigators even though they were the ones who initially believed the kidnapping was a hoax. more at link: http://www.ktvu.com/story/29549123/...icials-still-quiet-on-huskins-kidnapping-case

Muller is expected to be indicted in the Vallejo case within the next two weeks, his lawyer said. He will plead not guilty, Johnson said, and "in all likelihood will enter some mental health defense."
For the Dublin case, he pleaded not guilty last week to several felony counts, including first-degree residential robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. A preliminary hearing is scheduled in Pleasanton on Aug. 27. http://www.contracostatimes.com/ci_28485209/vallejo-kidnap-suspect-fancied-himself-an-oceans-eleven

This guy is so smart and sophisticated, he openly admits that he and his cohorts broke into the wrong house and grabbed the wrong victim. On one hand he's a genius, and on the other hand he's a fool. Sounds like one of those characters Don Knotts or Jerry Lewis would have played.

Oh that is awful! I think you found ANOTHER one! I was feeling sure in the story I was thinking of the girl was charged before being vindicated. It scares me you found this story and I found the one in the UK and then here we are talking about DH. It's scary to think you could be kidnapped and brutalized and then when you go to the police they could so quickly decide you're lying and fabricated it all.
