Search Continues: CVPD Announces Partnership With DA, FBI, NCIS, More Details in Investigation Into Chula Vista Mom's Disappearance

CVPD said they have conducted the following:

  • Interviewed more than 55 people -- family members, friends, neighbors and witnesses who potentially had insight into her whereabouts.
  • Written 16 search warrants to include residences, vehicles, cellular and electronic devices, call detail records, financial records, social media and cloud data.
    • One of these warrants was for May’s home, which was searched on Jan. 23, 2021. Another warrant was for a Millete’s relative's home, which was searched on April 1, 2021.
  • Reviewed over 40 tips on May’s possible location and reason for the disappearance. These tips have come from the local community and from around the country. These tips have also included investigators working with law enforcement agencies from other states.

I don't know why it was done or what caused it for the Lexus, but here it is suggested that tire pressure be decreased to gain traction when driving on sand:
Sand Driving

That's super interesting! Didn't Maya's family say he was acting strange on the trip to Glamis? Taking the jeep and disappearing for hours only to come back just to argue with Maya again? Maybe Glamis needs to be searched again. I watched a search video from Glamis a while back and I found it quite concerning how quickly people's tires were buried in the sand.

My only problem with Glamis is why would he take the Lexus when the jeep is much better equipped for that terrain? Wonder if it has anything to do with the size of the trunk?

It's also worth noting that it's advised to reduce tire pressure for rocky terrain. The website I'm currently reading states "The best option is to release 5 psi per tire on dirt or sand and up to 10 psi on rocky terrain." It also says that going as low as 10psi per tire is manageable and that low pressure goes hand in hand with low speed.

Off-Road Tire Pressure: When to Air Down

The fact that he returned to the house with low tires could possibly mean he was cutting it close on time, or that there were no places to inflate his tires on the return trip? Maybe he didn't consider inflating them back up or knew that he might have to reset the tire pressure monitoring system so didn't bother?

Or, this could mean he just went to Solana Beach like he said. Are you allowed to drive vehicles on the beach there?

Amateur opinion and speculation

Edit: Updated the link to the correct one. Sorry!

!

No, Solana Beach is actually more like cliffs with just a narrow beach. No driving on the beach there (nor at any beach in San Diego County, as far as I know).

Regarding why not the Jeep, perhaps the gps is easier to switch off in Lexus? JMO, I know nothing about cars.
But it might be the space, if he did indeed have toddler with carseat as well. MOO

I wouldn't check tyres on other people's car, unless they were really visibly flat but I am a woman who choses cars by colours lol. Interesting brother noticed that.

I agree with you. And I also think that speculating why taking one vehicle over another is probably irrelevant unless we get more information. It could be merely because the car seat was already installed and has absolutely no bearing on why the Lexus was used. I was just thinking out loud when I wrote that so I probably shouldn't have speculated at all about it.

I'm also curious as to exactly how flat they were. Sometimes tires look slightly flat even when they're inflated to the recommended psi. If they were very visibly flat, the drive home probably would have been rough and slow going. There does appear to be news reports showing the Lexus before it was seized and the tires look properly inflated to me.

If the Lexus is 4wd or awd, which looks like
it could be, then it’s capable enough in sandy or off road terrain.

I hope this new partnership brings some news about Maya.

Good point! You're probably right! But that makes it even more odd that the tires would be flat/low wouldn't it? I honestly don't know but it is interesting either way.

I have a feeling that something good will happen out of this partnership soon.

I've been racking my brain trying to figure out where Maya could be, and also why there hasn't been an arrest.

Today, I got pulled away to go over to the Linda Stoltzfoos thread (her remains have been found) and the news that Linda had been initially hidden in one spot and then moved later to a different location. Then I clicked into the Gannon Stauch case. Gannon was moved twice for sure and maybe more.

I wonder if LE is searching a certain someone's movements not only in the couple of days directly around the time Maya went missing, but also in the several weeks before they served the search warrant. The reason I say this is that maybe Maya was "dumped" quickly in the early days of her disappearance. Then, she may have been moved to a more secure location later.

It can take a lot of time to get warrants for cell, data, computer, cloud etc. etc., and if they are looking at an extended period of time, that's going to take a lot of manpower and it's extraordinarily time consuming. If they believe that more than one person is involved, that's going to even take longer.

After today's press release I am confident that Chula Vista PD have this well under control. I think they are building an iron clad case and I think they want to find Maya.

Yes. Smart thinking, no trunk in the Jeep. I have a four door wrangler like Maya’s Jeep. When driver or passenger front door is open the dome lights expose what is in the entire inside cargo of the Jeep.
IOW, no concealing compartment.
A perp would opt for a trunk.
In case pulled over , gas station cameras , etc.

MM's family did not report MM missing to CVPD until very late evening Sunday, January 10, and they executed a search warrant on the Millete residence on Saturday - January 23.

Probable cause (required for a search warrant) can be a double edge sword when adults go missing-- especially when police are first faced with adult relationship issues and they're bound by law to balance the privacy of an adult with safety concerns cited by family members.

We also do not know if action by other investigators inadvertently delayed or interfered with LE's ability to obtain a search warrant. It wasn't until after Mackenzie Lueck's killer was sentenced that we learned that Salt Lake City PD lost valuable time in their investigation when their early search warrant attempt for Lyft records was halted after a third party tracked down Lueck's Lyft driver. When the 3rd party reported the Lyft driver witnessed ML greeting her killer at a park requested by the passenger, probable cause was lost by LE. Unfortunately, by the next opportunity for a probable cause warrant, ML was already deceased.

According to the report below, Maya was reported missing by her sister on Saturday, Jan. 9th at 11:18pm.

BBM
"...Jan. 9, 2021 At 11:18 p.m., Maya's sister, Maricris Drouaillet, calls Chula Vista police to report her sister is missing.

Jan. 10, 2021 CVPD Lt. Miriam Foxx confirmed police officers arrived at Maya's home along the 2400 block of Paseo Los Gatos in Chula Vista at around 1 a.m. on Jan. 10
to investigate the report of Maya's disappearance. It was at this point that investigators learned that Maya had vanished three days prior. The search for the missing mom began."

I'm struggling to get my head around how they were able to do such a good clean up job considering the amount of gunshots and potential blood spray and slatter that would send everywhere. I would not be surprised if he pre planned to do this in a part of the house that was set up/stripped/ furniture covered etc ready to be easily cleaned.

If it was true that those 8 shots came from that home, my guess would be it happened in the garage. it's still mind boggling that all those shots and not one crumb of evidence left behind... but the garage would be much easier to clean compared to a bedroom or any room in the house.

BL and/or family of MM did notice that when they went to the home a few days after filing the missing persons report, that the garage was spotless, which they thought was very unusual. Dont forget the missing freezer in the garage too. I did notice in their past pictures of the garage, that the floor is epoxied which would make it even easier to clean up.

If anything did happen in that home, the key witnesses to all this would have to be the kids. I cant imagine what they've been going through these past months. What they heard/saw that night, and what was told/fed to them each day after.

MOO amateur speculation.

The children need to be with May’s family. LM’s father already showed his level of judgement speaking as he did in front of the children.

MOO, I am disturbed that the children are still in the home.

So, I know there is probably alot of human remains around that we don’t know about, but there were remains found in the hills above Burbank around 12 hrs ago. Not on a visible trail. It’s 2 hrs and 10 minutes according to Goggle from Chula Vista to Burbank. Probably a long shot that it’s May, but...it is possible.

Gunshot audio has been released from USA Forensic

To view this content we will need your consent to set third party cookies.
For more detailed information, see our cookies page.

A quick summary from Brian states that there are no discernable human voices in the audio and that it is a dog squealing between shots 1 & 2. The shots were indoors and in a confined space.

Edit: I posted the video from The Interview Room but there is also a similar video from CBS 8 San Diego on YouTube as well. I'm uncertain if one source is preferred over the other but they're very similar videos so I feel like I'm hopefully not breaking any TOS

And this may get deleted but YES, I AGREE WITH EVERYONE....WHY IN THE WORLD ARE THOSE BABIES STILL AROUND LM AND HIS TOXIC FAMILY??? I AM BEYOND PISSED AT LE AT THIS POINT. I honestly think they are so traumatized by the judge throwing out the Guzman case that they are dragging their feet. CVPD...HOW ARE YOU GOING TO BE ABLE TO SLEEP AT NIGHT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO MAY’S PRECIOUS BABIES??? I would be scared to live next to LM right now also. He is a threat to the community. Please please, the whole country and world are begging y’all to make an arrest!!!

If those are gun shots (they sound like they are), they sound timed with a stationary target. Almost like target practice at an indoor range. I'm having a hard time believing, although the timing is interesting, that this is connected to Maya's disappearance. If this was someone actually shooting a person, I can't imagine a clean up like this would get past LE, not to mention bullets maybe going into walls, ricocheting, etc. IMO
