In this article I’ve linked, it’s in the Filipino language. However, in the text, it quotes what the sister said in English. The text, I believe, is incorrect. In listening to the sister in the accompanying video, I hear the opposite, that she “WASN’T responding”.
The article writes that she said,
“The room was locked. But when my brother knocked on the door she was responding and it was locked. My brother thought, she probably just wanted to be left alone”
(bolded by me)
But I hear “
The room was locked. But when my brother knocked on the door, she wasn’t responding, and it was locked. And then my brother thought it might be she probably just wanted to be left alone.”

The context seems to imply the brother knocked on her door on Thursday, but I’m not certain.
You’re right, though—frame of mind. Did the brother stop over there to check on her knowing she was upset? Was Maya already gone? What time was the brother there?
