Police say Nick Reiner 'booked for murder'

Nick Reiner has been "booked for murder" after his parents Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead in their home, the Los Angeles Police Department just confirmed to reporters during an unrelated news conference.

Police say he is a suspect in this case and is being held on a $4 million bail.

Beyond that, authorities say they can't share any other details, including about executing a search warrant at the home.

I missed it in the theater, and I saw in a TV listing today that HBO Max was going to show it tonight. (I don't have that channel.) I had not been able to watch the first movie ever since Tony Hendra's daughter made very credible accusations that he SA'ed her.
Oh don’t ruin it for me! One of my favorites.

This video has been shared multiple times in the thread but has not gotten the attention it deserves.

Extremely heartbreaking to hear how much RR loved his children and I agree that NR comes off as cold and a bit detached in comparison to his father. MOO.

To hear that they felt like rehab wasn’t “right” for him and that they would prefer to keep him happy/close at home, makes me wonder they took that same route here.

Just an absolute nightmare.
It comes down to evidence-based medicine and supporting the latest standard of care for your child's treatment. If the scientific evidence shows quality inpatient rehab statistically provides the best outcome for treating drug addiction, you should go with that recommendation. Well, at least that's how I approach it.

From a 2018 interview with the accused (when he says, "my guesthouse," I think he means he was staying at the guesthouse on his parents' propery):

“It’s not much of a story. I got totally spun out on uppers — I think it was coke and something else — and I was up for days on end,” Nick, 32, added. “I started punching out some things in my guest house.”

The screenwriter said his violent fit “started with the TV” and then he “went over to the lamp.”

“Everything in the guest house got wrecked,” he recalled....

The “Being Charlie” writer said that while there was “no logic” behind his violent outburst, he was “pissed that his parents told him he “had to go.”

It’s too horrible to imagine Nick killing both of his parents by slitting their throats.

It makes my mind race, thinking that one must have seen the other die first and knew what their own child was about to do to the second one, too.

For all we’ve heard over time, and the Charlie movie, it truly appears that Nick was much-loved by his parents, who were just confounded by his choices and tried desperately to help him.

I was touched by the interview above, where Rob says he knows “what it is like to be the son of….” as Carl Reiner was a huge star.

He understood the pressures and expectations of being “the son of” when you follow in a famous parent’s footsteps.

May their memories be a blessing.

Decades of this with this son. Heartbreaking so much.

Meth. That really explains a lot. IIRC, it literally destroys parts of your brain. It makes people violent, in a permanent way.

What's a family to do?

Rob and wife were affluent, connected, educated, loving parents, and even they were at a loss how to deal with their son. Prevention is of course the best solution, but in a real world, prevention isn't guaranteed. Then what?
