A psychiatrist could tell if he's malingering.

Yes or perhaps it’s just that these reports from ‘sources’ are getting more ridiculous with each passing day.

Nick Reiner knows he killed his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, but he doesn't understand why he's in jail ... sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ……….Our sources say Nick is delusional and believes the people who put him behind bars are engaged in a "conspiracy" against him.”

I remember an anti-drug public service announcement on TV from awhile back. It showed a frying pan on a stove with a fried egg crackling, popping and shrinking as it cooked. The announcer said: “this is your brain on drugs”. Meaning, fried.

IMO that’s a large part of NR’s issues/problems. His brain is fried from using drugs for so many years, which may be the cause of, or at least contributed to his MH illness, whichever he has. I’ve read reports he has schizophrenia, and other reports say he has schizoaffective disorder. I’ll wait to hear what his official diagnosis(s) is/are by a MH professional during judicial proceedings. Mental illness doesn’t equal criminality. IMO majority of those with MI are victims of crime vs. perpetrators.

There is clearly something ethically and morally wrong with perpetrators of cold blooded murder. Whether they have MI, or not. I personally think NR made a choice/knew and understood what he was doing. Booked a hotel, fled the scene, washed blood off, changed clothes, etc.

To be clear, I’m not saying his brain being fried from drugs or whatever MH illness he has excuses or justifies him slaughtering his parents.

NR seemingly has no remorse, guilt, or shame over his vile, heinous actions. And I hope he does decide to plead NG, go on trial, and found Guilty of M1 x 2, and then hopefully locked away in prison for the rest of his natural life with no chance at parole. Because, and not least of which, he may very well go after his siblings for revenge if reports are true they’re not supporting him anymore or paying for his defense.

His siblings are probably afraid of NR, might be thinking something to the effect ‘If he could kill my parents with such blatant disregard for their lives with no remorse, what’s to stop him from killing me if he ever gets released back into society’.

I don’t blame NR’s siblings one bit if they feel that way, imo it would be 100% valid/justified.

I can’t imagine what NR’s poor siblings’ are going through. My heart breaks for them. I’m glad they have each other for support while they grieve their parents and everything their brother took from them. Heartbreaking.

Thanks for the article to clear that up. So Schizoaffective is much worse than just Schizophrenia. It's like adding on Bi-Polar to it as well...

I don't believe it at all. About the conspiracy, etc.

I don't know what "parental mistakes" the Reiners may have made, other than some here who say they would have done things differently than the Reiners and think that NR would have turned out differently. All that is just a matter of opinion.
My own perception of the Reiner parents has evolved.
Not victim shaming: At first, I thought perhaps they were too lenient with Nick (there may have been some of that).
Now, of course 20/20, I believe that they did all they knew how, and their main “ mistake” was Not protecting themselves from their mentally ill, addict son.
I think Nick's decline snuck up on them rapidly, in the last month, and they were caught off guard. MOO

BBM if he is in psychosis he may be delusional. Psychosis can be anything from seeing hearing things that are not there to having bizarre beliefs that are not based in reality. Such as his parents were replaced by aliens or demons who meant him harm.

I look forward to getting more facts and not having to rely on all these conflicting "inside" sources.

I'd like to hear a tape of his conversations with other inmates.

Me, I’m not buying it. He’s an expert at manipulation. If he doesn’t know why he’s locked up there’s no reason he wouldn’t have called 911 from the Reiner residence to report his parents deaths.

Yep. Manipulation all the way.

According to Harvey Levin's sources, he was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder in 2020 and was treated with antipsychotics until a month before the crime (7:44 mark below).

This needs to be understood in the context of a defense strategy, which would have involved attributing NR's actions to a change in medication IMHO. The sources reportedly told TMZ that the reasons for that very recent change are "shocking". The family feels he was failed by the system.

However, he would have been 26-27 and a long time drug addict at the time of this diagnosis, which substantially muddies the waters.

We really don't know enough to conclude either way. I personnally find myself sometimes thinking one way - severe mental illness, NGRI - and sometimes another - acting out after some kind of humiliating event ("this is a private conversation" and whatever may have stemmed from that).

BBM

If he has truly been diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder and recently stopped taking antipsychotics, his “increasingly erratic behavior” should come as no surprise. And no responsible medical professional would advise a patient with such a diagnosis to cease taking them. It’s possible that NR simply decided to stop taking the antipsychotic medication on his own, but it would be a gross misrepresentation to describe his own noncompliance as a “recent change in his medication” — even if it were still technically true.

And who knows what else he was taking concurrently.

IIRC he’s being kept in isolation.
Oh thanks, I hadn't heard that. Do you think family can visit? I'm curious about that blurb about conspiracies, etc. A j never would have spread that around, even if true. I doubt family either. I don't think he's really saying that, just sounds too bizarre.

Agree, I don't believe any of them. So far, I really only believe the quote that appeared in People magazine and one other news source wherein the surviving family members said they put their faith in the justice system. Regardless of how horrible the crime is, every defendant has a right to a fair trial, etc, etc...

The public defender has taken over the case and is becoming familiar with the details. The next hearing will be in a couple of weeks, right?

Further away yet. The plea hearing was moved to February 23rd and it’s anyone’s guess if a plea will happen even then.

He spoke after a hearing where Reiner was supposed to be arraigned and enter a plea to two charges of first-degree murder. Instead, after meeting with the Judge Theresa McGonigle in chambers, Jackson, at his own request, was replaced by a public defender and the plea hearing was postponed to Feb. 23.

I don’t think he’s allowed visitors according to this article, if accurate.

….Since entering the jail system on Dec. 15 following his arrest on suspicion of murdering his parents, director Rob Reiner and photographer and producer Michele Singer Reiner, Nick has been housed inside Tower 2’s high-observation mental health unit.

There, Nick remains alone in his cell at all times and is served three meals a day in confinement, four police sources confirm to PEOPLE.

"The inmates [where he is located] have significant mental health illnesses and need to be kept alone and away from any other people or inmates," says a Los Angeles County sheriff source. Doctors and mental health professional determined Nick has a "mental disability" one police source previously told PEOPLE…..

I've been lurking here a few days and haven't read all of the posts, so please forgive me. But, has it been discussed as to whether or not there were security cameras all over the property? I would think so, especially with both R&M both involved with photography, etc. and the house is so large, it would seem necessary.
