CA - Murder victims Identified as Rob Reiner and wife Michele - LA Dec 14 2025

It’s so ridiculous, because I’ve been following this since the news first said that two people were found dead at the Reiner home, and then we heard the whole story.

But I suddenly just now felt a shockwave——wow, Rob Reiner has been murdered!

Good old amiable, funny, talented Rob Reiner was ACTUALLY murdered by his son. As well as the mother.

It’s like a delayed reaction that just hit me all over again.

Me too, @Arkay. I'm so old I remember watching "All in the Family" (when it was on, NOT in reruns) and having a slight schoolgirl crush on cutie Rob.

In all the pictures that have come out in recent days, I am struck by how happy RR looks in most of them. Here was a man who was living his best life, and had been for years.

His legacy will be the happiness and joy he gave other people through his work.

Has anyone heard whose name the room was under and how it was paid? Was it Nicks name and credit card?

There are still hotels in LA that take cash. No credit cards or ID needed. I mean, this doesn't look like the Hilton.

The Reiner's daughter is saying this account is inaccurate. No "heated argument". Their relationship with their son has been complicated for years as he's struggled with drug addiction off and on his young adult life. They have been very open about it over the years and Rob and Nick actually made a film about it "Being Charlie" in order to help other families dealing with the same things.

Bolded for focus.

Do you have a link for her saying this, please? I haven't seen that. Thank you.

So where'd he get the money and who is paying for his lawyer??

I think he probably checked into the hotel with a credit card.

As for who is paying his lawyer...I would love to know that myself.

I can't imagine his siblings doing it, but I am not in their shoes.

All JMO.

Ugh, I tried to find it and not able to. Now I wonder if it was premature as all the articles I see now don't say they've said anything. Sorry.

No worries. Thank you.

The Pierside is actually nice inside. I stayed in a nearby hotel on that block last year in Santa Monica. The older hotels there don’t look like much from the outside, but they are beautifully refurbished and high-end inside.

More details:

The slain bodies of Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner were found in the master bedroom area of their Brentwood home, and within hours the investigation turned to focus on their younger son, a Los Angeles Police Department official reported on Tuesday to the city’s police commissioners.

-
The associate, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the family was not ready to speak publicly about the matter, said that the daughter then ran back into the house to search other rooms for her mother, not realizing that Michele Reiner’s body also was in the master bedroom area.

Only after paramedics arrived did an emergency worker come out of the room and inform her that both of her parents had been killed,
the family associate said.

This is a story from the Hollywood Reporter that describes a little more fully about NR’s behavior at Conan’s Christmas party.

From your link. I don’t understand why none of these inside sources happened to notice when Nick left, given he apparently caused such great discomfort amongst the guests. I admit the omission of this detail makes me doubt the truthfulness of the entire story. After his parents left, if he remained behind wouldn’t the party attendees be even more leery of his presence? And if the Reiners brought him to keep an eye on him, why would they leave him behind given his unsettling behaviour? Why didn’t anyone notice? JMO

Minutes later, the Reiners, mortified, apologized to O’Brien and left the party. It has not been determined if Nick left with them. The conversational din returned to the room, but the mood of the evening was altered.”

SBMFF

I wonder why she didn't see her mom? The reason I'm wondering is because it sounds like they might have been in bed when attacked and perhaps Michele wasn't visible at a glance as she was under the covers. That's pretty chicken💩 if so. Although Rob might have been on the floor between the bed and the door. Otherwise, he's not exactly a small guy so perhaps that's why he was visible at a glance if he was in bed.

My husband has an uncanny way of disappearing under his covers. We've been married for 20 plus years and sometimes I have to look twice to see if he's in there. If MIchele's sleeping habits were similar, it's entirely possible Romy didn't see her.

OF course, as you point out, that means she was probably stabbed under those covers.

Chilling.

I think you are referring to what is commonly called a "dual diagnosis".

Just wondering are there symptoms before a psychotic break. Is that what he had that led to all of this carnage and killing of his parents.
SBM for context

IME (mom has bipolar disorder), there are always red flags or warning signs before the onset of psychosis. But they can be very subtle and easy to miss in the moment. It’s often only in hindsight that the red flags become glaringly obvious. We humans have a terrible tendency to explain everything away.

The news called it a boutique hotel

The mansion was reportedly 10,000 sq ft so the master bedroom was very likely much larger than the average 11 x 12 sq ft bedroom. Indeed I’d guess that master bedroom including the ensuite, walking closets, powder room, sitting area and whatnot was probably larger than the entire size of a typical house! Depending how closely she looked it’s possible she just didn’t notice her mom (which may’ve been a good thing). Undoubtedly she would’ve already been deeply traumatized at viewing her deceased father.

I don’t know the abbreviations (SBMFF? SBM? RSBM?) can someone explain please.
That said, yes there can be a variety of subtle signs that someone is starting to have a manic episode (eg , I have seen in patients, when I was in practice - sleep changes, irritability, rapid speech, flirtatiousness, grandiose thinking, even changes in the size of handwriting), but thus far, despite the frequency that patients with SA problems often have a dual diagnosis, so far we have not heard about that re: NR from any reliable sources.

SBM - snipped by me (meaning, the original post was snipped by the replying party)
SBMFF - snipped by me for focus
RSBM - not sure about that one
