CA - Murder victims Identified as Rob Reiner and wife Michele - LA Dec 14 2025

I’m mostly through the thread. I just have to say I’m sorry, but there’s no excuse for what he did to his parents. I don’t feel a bit sorry for him. I’ll save my sympathy for his siblings and parents. What a loser. He had advantages most of us never have and threw them away. He’ll find out now how lucky he was.
Addiction is a disease. imo.

I don't think his defense would be to trash his Dad. I think his resentment finally came to escalation where he wanted to silence everything and his impulse behavior took over. Seems like he may have fantasized killing of Dad in his mind. I think Dad was intended target and Mom was because she was there.

Will be interesting to find out whose DNA is all of the blood and blood splatter in motel room.
Blood spatter? Usually that means arterial blood flow and I have never heard that yet.

i do not think Romy had children or is married. Only grandchildren are those of Tracy the adopted daughter.

In this ABC7 article from early Monday morning, a neighbor said that Romy and her children live across the street.

According to a neighbor, actors Billy Crystal and Larry David arrived separately at the home on Sunday evening. The two comedians stayed briefly before departing, and Crystal "looked like he was about to cry," the neighbor said.

There are two houses that the Reiner family owns across the street from each other. Rob and his wife lived in one and a daughter with kids lived in another, according to the neighbor.

Agreed.
I was thinking that meant more like smears, as in -- Nick tried to clean himself or his clothing off ?
Unless he self-harmed, but no word about that yet.
Imo.

I'm truly inclined to believe the MSM above was a misinterpretation between the neighbor and ABC7 reporter, and where this probably would have best been reported as 'a daughter with roommates' lived in the other house (across the street).

IME, parents and/or older neighbors typically refer to young professionals as "kids."

Also, social media of the victims and family is open, and there's no evidence of children/grandchildren attributed to RR!

Other MSM generally reported that the daughter (RR) found the parents deceased after being alerted by the masseuse that there was no answer when she arrived at the residence for a scheduled appointment, and her roommate called 911 to report the horror. (Also, nothing here prevents a roommate from having kids)! JMO

NYTimes by MSN

After her parents failed to open the gate to their home, Romy arrived at the scene with a roommate and went inside to check on her mom and dad before finding Rob's body, a source close to the Reiner family revealed to the news outlet.

Romy's roommate, who was waiting outside of the home, was reportedly the one to call 911.

SBMFF

IME it's not just young professionals. My mother just asked me this question 2 days ago (What my father's nickname was for me). My answer... 'The kid'.

So, it's a lot broader than you said. :)

Just spotted this in TV guide. Tonight on ABC.
I’m in Mountain Time Zone so it starts in an hour here for me.

I'm a few pages behind, so sorry if this has already been discussed, but I was surprised that they would have a news special on this already, so soon after it happened.

Then I thought about how newspapers and magazines often have obituaries or posthumous retrospectives written in advance of a celebrity's death, so that they have it ready to go to publication when it's time.

Rob Reiner was 78. They may have already had his obituary or biographical tribute show mostly produced, to show as soon as he died.

If so, it's terrible that they would have had to edit it now to include such tragic details explaining what happened. It's terrible that their lives could have had such a different ending if not for this.

I’ve read that Nick didn’t drive and that he used private driving services (uber/lyft) along with public transportation.

It’s also been stated that he used his own personal credit card while checking into his hotel room.

Two timelines I saw this morning (LA Times/NYT) both said NR checked into the hotel AFTER the murders.
Has anyone seen this confirmed?

FWIW, IMO, he easily could have walked from the Reiner’s home to the Pierside. It’s a longish but very easy walk. If he took public transportation, he most likely would’ve taken a bus down Wilshire or Santa Monica if buses were running at that time.

Unlikely he would have walked to the USC area though.

okay - this is what I have so far. If someone sees "what" time he went into the Sinclair gas station mart - please post. Articles just says late night...

Timeline: “We don’t have that kind of specificity yet,” McDonnell said of the timeline of the couple’s deaths. “We’re waiting on the coroner to be able to try and determine as best they can at this point.”

[map Reiner's house to the Pierside & on to USC on post #935, page 47]

The Sinclair Gas station is about two miles from the hotel. And the hotel is five minutes from the metro train stop, which goes directly to the Exposition Blvd stop where Nick was apprehended by cops.

Prosecutors have alleged N Reiner stabbed his parents in "approximately the early morning hours" on Sunday, according to a news release. But a specific time has not been disclosed.

12/12/25 Friday: One source told the Daily Mail that Rob & Michele ate at the Amici restaurant Friday, the night before they attended a holiday party at Conan O'Brien's house with their son.

12/12/25 Friday-Rob & Michele & Nick attend Conen O'Brien's holiday party.

12/13/25 Saturday @ 12:16am - Nick walking across a Sinclair gas station forecourt. John Fawcett, the owner of the nearby Sinclair gas station, has described seeing Nick walking across the forecourt late on Saturday night -CCTV footage from late Saturday night Fawcett described how Nick walked westbound along San Vicente Avenue before cutting through his station. He then crossed the street before pausing outside a consignment store called The RealReal & then heading up the sidewalk.

12/14/25 Sunday @ 4am: Reportedly, NR checked into room 207 at The Pierside Hotel in Santa Monica around 4am on Sunday, 12/14/25 covered in blood per daily mail article [post #933, page 47].

12/14/25 Sunday @ 2pm - Masseuse arrives-no one answers do.

12/14/25 Sunday @ 3pm - Romy finds her parents dead.

12/14/25 Sunday @ 3:30pm - Emergency services called to home.

12/14/25 Sunday @ 3:40pm: The couple was found dead around 3:40pm on Sunday, 12/14/25—reportedly by their daughter Romy.

12/14/25 Sunday @ ~8:20pm - Nick buys a drink at Sinclair gas station. Early Sunday morning captured on CCTV the moment Nick, wearing a cap & backpack, calmly strolled by the service station just half a mile from his parents' home.

12/14/25 Sunday @ 9:15pm: Reiner was taken into custody [at the *Expo/Vermont Metro station in Exposition Park] around 9:15pm, Sunday, 12/14/25.

12/15/25 Monday @ 5:04am: booked on suspicion of murder at 5:04am, Monday, 12/15/25

Their camera said 12:16 and 12:17 but I don’t know if the camera time is accurate. At that point, he was walking in a direction that was moving further away from the Reiner’s house though that doesn’t mean he might not have looped back later.

I would like to more about the motel timeline. Check in 4am and then housekeeper cleaning later that morning does not seem right. With all blood splatter on walls and in room, I would think motel would call police which did not appear to happen, as daughter's roommate did. Sounds like check in at 4am would be until next day and that is was police detective work to get housekeeper to enter room 207. NR probably had a habit of staying in motel rooms during binge drug episodes. Also, sounds like NR went to party because his dad wanted to keep him exposed to celebrities, producers, writers, etc. Just weird to think it was to look after a 32 year old. Maybe he went to party, left, got high, returned buzzed, triggered fight with Dad in public, taken home, murdered parents to silence any yelling, and back to motel.

The Pierside is a four star hotel and checkout time is 11:00am. If he checked in around 4:00am for just one night, that would mean until that same morning at or before 11:00am. I believe I read he did not formally check out but I’d imagine housekeeping would feel free to enter after the expected checkout time if the room seemed unoccupied (no answer to a knock, no DND sign on door). JMO.

Hi Niner - one small correction that I see, the Conan holiday party was Saturday night. Thanks for your hard work!

One article had it on Friday night - but I will change my notes to Saturday night. The restaurant owner said they had dinner on Friday night....

Thanks for putting this timeline together @Niner

Quick Q - bolded portion below
I checked post 933 p47 and saw nothing about NR being covered in blood when he checked into the hotel?
What I have seen is that there was blood in his hotel room bathroom and bed and a sheet over the window but I have not yet seen anything about Nick being covered in blood ? Did I miss it ? Easily could have as I have not 100% followed this thread - appreciate it

I will change my notes - to the hotel room. Sorry about the mistakes.

“I’m petrified of [Nick]. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’m afraid of my son. I think my own son can hurt me,” the unspecified celeb recalled Rob said, according to a source who was at the funeral service, which was held at comedian Albert Brooks’ mansion in Los Angeles.

He said he wanted to go back to smoking pot “sort of using pills and doing whatever he wanted “ maybe Nick wanted to go back to where his addiction was a little more in control, a harm reduction approach. Many believe recovery is all or nothing, complete abstinence, and wouldnt go for a harm reduction approach, this could have caused conflict.
There is no such thing as having your addiction under control. It's a delusion.

When Rob Reiner was interviewed over lunch in 1998 by a Times columnist, Nick, then 5, tumbled around the table, prompting his father to quip: “He’s floppy. He’s always moving around. He was born like that. When he came out, the doctor said, ‘This is a squirmy one.’ ”

The prosecutors assigned to the Reiners’ killing are familiar with high-profile cases.

The two prosecutors assigned to handle the case against Nick Reiner, accused of stabbing his parents to death in their home over the weekend, are familiar with high-profile cases.
The prosecutors, Habib Balian and Jonathan Chung, are both experienced trial lawyers who have managed complex homicide cases that attracted heavy attention from the media. “They will bring their decades of experience to holding this murderer accountable,” the Los Angeles County district attorney, Nathan J. Hochman, said at a news conference on Tuesday.

I do not think taking Nick was for Nick to interact with celebrities, it appears that Dad took him to party to keep an eye on him...knowing he was in a bad state of mind. I know I read that RR even called Conan to see if it would be ok to bring him.

You do have to wonder if Rob and Michelle had a discussion of whether to go or not to go because of Nick. But Conan undoubtedly strongly encouraged him to come..... (big sad moo)

better say imo.... this above revelation regarding contacting Conan was waaaaay back in the thread.
