Is it possible that a trust had been set up for any legal needs of NR? Maybe that is paying the attorney. I do hope if the Estate/siblings are taking responsibility for charges that the role of the attorney is to make a plea deal to avoid the death penalty and NR just takes responsibility and they don't try to drag the victims through the mud as we have seen in other trials. I cannot say that as a sibling I would feel any obligation to help him. But I would want him to take responsibility, to not play victim.

I'm truly inclined to believe the MSM above was a misinterpretation between the neighbor and ABC7 reporter, and where this probably would have best been reported as 'a daughter with roommates' lived in the other house (across the street).

IME, parents and/or older neighbors typically refer to young professionals as "kids."

Also, social media of the victims and family is open, and there's no evidence of children/grandchildren attributed to RR!

Other MSM generally reported that the daughter (RR) found the parents deceased after being alerted by the masseuse that there was no answer when she arrived at the residence for a scheduled appointment, and her roommate called 911 to report the horror. (Also, nothing here prevents a roommate from having kids)! JMO

It wouldn’t surprise me either especially if next we’re going to learn that hospitalization was strongly recommended to monitor the meds but NR refused, instead his parents agreed to watch over him at their home OR he quit taking the meds entirely. JMO

very possible IMO.

adjusting meds is a daunting task and can often involve a need to completely come off the current meds so that the "new" cocktail can be attempted. That removing all meds and adding new ones can be a very dangerous time and is best done under close medical supervision.

yes this is what confused me the daughter WITH KIDS , Romy doesn't seem to have children only Tracie and it is Romy who seems to live there? Seeking Clarification.

I think there could’ve been a miscommunication between the Reiner’s neighbor and the ABC reporter that “the daughter and her kids” live across the street.

I believe it was mentioned up thread by @Seattle1 that since Romy was the youngest Reiner, she had a roommate and she lived across the street from mom and dad, the neighbors and the Reiners probably referred to them as “the kids.”

Maybe when the neighbor told the ABC reporter the Reiners live here in the main house and “the kids” live across the street, it became misinterpreted that Romy had children of her own?

In my opinion, and from what we know now, the guests were way safer to be in a public space with Nick than Romy would’ve been alone, at home, with him.

Maybe but he could have. gotten violent right at Conan's party. I don't really know how they were living with this day to day. It must have been awful. Family left will not really talk about what happened daily at the Reiner house when he returned to stay but it will be life changing for all involved. The anger mixed with some guilt for not realizing this could happen.

“Watchful supervision” due to NR’s recent change in medication? Unfortunately it appears RR had long ago resigned himself to the belief he was the best person to deal with his son’s ongoing issues, as opposed to professionals. Rather than hospitalization it wouldn’t surprise me if ‘home care’ was arranged, similar to what I read somewhere that NR had agreed to undergo rehab/detox but only if he could continue living at home. JMO

Wouldn't his diagnosis change things though? I mean, if he wasn't of sound mind, doesn’t that change the legality of his actions and therefore punishment?

I doubt they had the opportunity. I wouldn't be surprised if he was under the influence of meth or something at the time either.

That’s my thought too. Didn’t the Hotel worker say he was “tweaked out” when he checked in?
