Interstate 5, which runs from the Mexican to Canadian borders, was closed today in the fire area. The traffic map said it would be closed until Jan. 25, but this article says it will open tonight. If it stays closed, it will severely impact deliveries north and south.

Authorities closed the I-5 Freeway earlier in the day to allow personnel to swiftly respond to the fire. Luna said they plan to reopen the major thoroughfare Wednesday night.

"We needed to have better ingress and regress for emergency vehicles coming through the 5 Freeway corridor," Luna said. "We want to give the 5 back to our community."

Piru looks fairly small and spread out, but Fillmore looks like a fairly big town. Wikipedia says it's got about 18,000 people.

If the fire keeps going the same direction, they're right in the way. (The smoke line is a great indicator of wind direction.)

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A large brush fire that erupted near Interstate 5 in Castaic has burned 500 acres, causing several evacuation orders and warnings Wednesday morning.

According to CalFire, the so-called Hughes Fire has burned 500 acres with no containment. The fire is located off Lake Hughes Road, north of Castaic Reservoir Road in Castaic

I know exactly where that is. Used to go water skiing at Lake Castaic when I was in high school.

Given that they are actively imploring people to take pets with them, and very clearly listing evacuation points and centres for both large animals and smaller pets in their resources from the beginning, this time, I would hope so.

Rewatching the video, most of the evacuees seem to be kids, and they're evacuating from an elementary school. I think this is a school evacuation.
