Winds affecting the spread of the Eaton fire have weakened, giving hope that it can be brought further under control.
The fires create huge updrafts and then wind carries embers miles away.Maybe a stupid question bit I am not really familiar with fires. Why the new fires pop up? Are they arson? I can’t grasp why so many fires just pop up.
The donation sites I have seen included boxes of diapers, formula, new boxed shoes, unopened snacks, personal items, etc. Plus lots of water. I would rather grab those than wait for money to be dispersed. I’m sure many have no cars to go shop. And if you ARE in the L.A. area, it's best to donate money and not your stuff, because the money can be used to buy things people need now. They definitely don't want your used underwear or stained stuffed animals.
Aid workers can literally go a mile or two away in many cases and get what's needed.
And leaves. Leaves are the worst. The fires create huge updrafts and then wind carries embers miles away.
A chunk of burning two by four can drop a mile away or more.
I disagree with the mayor. Every offer should be accepted. Firefighters must be exhausted.LA Mayor Bass rejects FDNY’s offer to help — despite not having enough firefighters to battle blazes still raging: sources

I'll disagree, maybe people who think they are above used items don't want anything but money, but in my area, if we are in need we gladly accept anything that is given. Used underwear or stained stuffed animals can be washed. As we saw in other catastrophic events, people took the money and bought designer handbags and TV/s instead of necessary items. I'm not above used items. JMOAnd if you ARE in the L.A. area, it's best to donate money and not your stuff, because the money can be used to buy things people need now. I’ve been watching this. I think any dispute over information could wait.Only outlet reporting this, but the fire chief has allegedly been fired by the mayor.
