Maybe he misunderstood the cops at some point, when they asked if she could be pregnant and asked if she might have threatened to tell his wife and he took that as they had told his wife? It sounds in his quotes, to me, that he is fairly distraught....may well not have understood all of the questioning and reacted to reporters out of emotion. I still can't imagine LE telling his wife that, unless she was giving him an alibi and they were trying to force her to say that he had really gone out.

Yep, I'm thinking something they found on her computer...emails, pictures, something. And/or if she kept a handwritten diary/journal where she poured out her personal feelings, since she didn't seem to share them much w/ her friends (per reports of her friends saying she didn't have a boyfriend). That combined w/ the phone call to him just a few hours before she vanished. Something, because it sure wasn't long before the police had TN on their radar, given that her brother was shown a picture of him so early on.

If there was a communication problem between him and LE, wouldn't they bring in an interpreter, rather than risk the whole interrogation possibly be excluded at trial, *if* he were to be charged? MOO

I would hope so! If a defense attorney can show he didn't understand English very well, all the evidence, if any, obtained from that interrogation would be thrown out. Hopefully LE know better. moo

I think we are jumping the gun considering we don't know what LE has that gave them probable cause. LE questioning someone for eight hours is not unusual. Especially if they aren't getting a straight answer from that person.

Do we know Nguyen's age? I looked in Solano County but didn't see any serious criminal records for that name. It's tough to find out more about him because obviously Nguyen is a very common name and there are a lot of people with his first name living in California.

If LE failed to give Nguyen his Constitutional rights, I fully believe, that even if guilty, a defense attorney should get everything obtained thrown out. IMO they know better and intentionally compromised the case. Just like if Mguyen wasn't read his Miranda rights. I hope the interrogation was videotaped. moo

He's got an accent but from the short conversation on the video it looks like he understands English OK.

Don't let his accent fool you...He is business owner in the United States...He understands English. My father in law had a very strong accent and spoke three completely different languages...It would be a nice try though.:dance:

I agree. And her brothers speak English very well also.

IMO, the initial bad handling of this case was a slip up on the behalf of Suisun PD and not a language problem.

BBM. I'm not disagreeing with you. I just feel this is all premature since the guy hasn't been named a suspect yet. I'd rather be learning more about this guys involvement with Phuong than debating something that might not matter in the long run.

Sorry SuziQ if you thought I was hoping a debate would occur...never meant that at all. I mentioned I would like to hear a defense attorneys take on the 8 hour interrogation, never thought a debate should take place. That's all there was to it - honest. Never thought of involving you.

I'm from Illinois, the home of 'false' confessions. I remember all too well the Riley Fox murder and how her father was driven to a 'false' confession. Even after Kevin Fox won millions in a lawsuit against Will County, LE continue to think they had the right man. I try not to contrast that with the Drew Peterson scenario!

Let's all hope in this case, LE do not have tunnel vision.

Who is he? And WHAT does he have to do with Pheuong? Where is she? Someone has taken advantage of her trusting nature imhoo...

I just don't get what their motivation would be to do that. I can see them trying to get something out of him if he were saying there was no relationship and they were digging to try to see if maybe there was, and they decided to goad him a bit by saying "Cmon buddy, we know you got her pregnant" just to see his reaction, see if he'd maybe say "Okay yeah, we had a relationship but no way is she pregnant" or "Okay yeah I was in love with her but she wouldn't have a relationship with me so no way is she pregnant with my baby" or whatever.

But his *wife*?? Either they know for a fact he got her pregnant, or I don't know what their motivation would be. MOO. It's baffling me.

The more I think about it, the more I believe they didn't come right out and tell her TN got PL pregnant. But I think that's what TN and/or his wife thought they were insinuating, and then of course he took the bait.

I think that if she worked for him for two years at one point that he was a friend or at least known to the family...and if they share a nationality it is not unusual they would be friends. I do think though that Le has reason to believe that in this case, they were more than friends.
