Police in Silicon Valley are working to unravel a potential murder mystery after a wealthy couple performing renovations on their yard unwittingly dug up a car filled with concrete that also may contain human remains.

It takes a helluva a lot of resources to bury an entire car.

Link to an article that states the name of the person that owned the home in the 1990s, which is when detectives say they believe the car was buried.

Link to a somewhat in-depth article about a yacht insurance fraud case the previous owner was charged in.

"JL told investigators that the yacht belonged to Asian crime bosses and that anyone who divulged the scheme would be killed, Edelen said. Investigators have not determined whether the Norwel belongs to the mob, but they didn't take any chances. "For officers' safety, we assumed it does," Edelen said."

He claimed that the yacht belonged to an Asian organized crime group called the "Triad," which authorized the sinking and fraudulent claim, authorities said. Mr. Lew also said that he or his people would kill or have killed anyone who told of the scheme,

While hoping no death is involved I’m guessing an insurance scam but why would somebody who can afford that kind of area need to do that? 50-100 grand tops?

Wonder how long we will wait to know about any remains? Strange one, for sure.

And, while this is a mansion in Atherton, California, there is additional interesting material if one Googles 'Atherton mansion!'

Sometimes errant Google-fu brings you great stories.

Dogs could have hit on bloodstains in the car. Better means of evidence disposal than driving it out in the desert and setting it on fire. Evidence disappears and you get your money back.

Crews fully excavated a car that police said was buried in the backyard of a Northern California mansion 30 years ago and found no human remains, authorities said Monday.
[...]
The car was removed from the home by a tow truck and transported Saturday to the San Mateo County Crime Lab for further inspection and processing. On Sunday, ground penetrating radar was used to examine the scene, the department said.
“This examination did not reveal anything unusual or suspicious at the scene and no human remains were located," it said.
"This concluded our on-scene investigation,” the department added.

Well.

More fun for us when the media reported that someone was in the car....

Still weird as heck. I still think that something happened with that car, even if it wasn't homicide. You want to commit insurance fraud, there are way, way easier ways to go about it that don't involve huge volumes of concrete and an excavator.
