So if there are 18 screens in the complex, someone could feasibly have walked out of any of them and into where the victims were feasibly.

Do we know where they were sitting? If near to rear or exit, it would make task probably easier.

Are we thinking that the victims were targeted, or it was some random in connection with the film's subject matter of following 'a group of people who attempt to escape from the United States after an insurrectionist movement continues committing crimes and murders nationwide after the Purge's ending'?
If they weren't targeted, as @chimpface noted, it could be an employee, someone who knew which theater the security cams weren't on. Someone who just wanted to kill people who slipped in and out in the darkened room, someone who knew how many minutes in the onscreen gun battle happened in the soundproofed room.
I feel like they had to be in the rear of the theater, if anyone sat behind them how could they miss it?
I guess they were so afraid of a worse mass shooting, as soon the film was over and the lights came on and they were discovered, they emptied out the entire complex without checking anyone. Maybe even starting before the cops got there, who didn't even know a shooting had happened until after they arrived.

“At some point, the employee or employees walk inside the theater to conduct their clean-up or walk through and that’s when the 911 call was placed,” Corona Police Department Cpl. Tobias Kouroubacalis said. “[They said] that there was an unknown problem, somebody was bleeding, there wasn’t very specific information given.”

So nobody heard gunshots?? Did the shooter have a silencer?? We don’t go to a lot of movies in the theater but even with how loud they usually have the sound I’d think a gunshot could be heard. So scary and sad for those involved. I hope they’re able to track down the other 6 in the theater, and review the cameras for people leaving/entering that particular screening room.

Six tickets purchased doesn't mean one of the six was the shooter. Once you get a ticket and move beyond the lobby you can generally go into any show you want unless it's sold out.

I think "nothing indicates a suspect" on camera because the perp didn't shoot and run, they walked out just like everyone else in the theater.
There are 18 screens in there, so alot more people than the 6 at the horror film. All movies were stopped and everyone was told to leave quickly.
If they paid in cash they will be harder to trace and also maybe a covid mask.
For many years all the theaters in CA I've been to have cams at entrance, in the lobby, and in the theater pointing right at you, of course we know sometimes they aren't on.
Minus the 2 victims, there's only 4 people to track.
Hopefully, they can follow the 4 people's exit by what they are wearing and maybe the cams in the parking caught the car tag numbers.
Unless the perp (or perps) walked away.

Gloria Jennifer Castro said she was watching a movie with her family in another part of the theater when the film stopped abruptly.
"They told us to leave. There was an emergency, just leave fast," Castro said, according to Los Angeles's KNBC-TV. "It's pretty scary, the fact we didn't know nothing was going on. Just scary."

On Tuesday detectives at the 18-screen movie house completed their search of the theater in which the victims were discovered without finding a gun, Capt. Paul Mercado said. At the same time, Kouroubacalis said, there was no evidence, either from witnesses or surveillance video, showing that someone shot the victims and fled.

The theater sold six tickets for that showing, Kouroubacalis said, and police were trying to find the other customers.

It's odd they told everyone to leave, fast. Wouldn't they corral them for the cops to take names, in case one of them was the shooter?

One would think so, huh?
That's why I think when employees found them after the lights came on, the manager must have told them to empty the theater while he called 911 saying there was "an unknown problem and someone was bleeding".
Because I just can't imagine the cops letting everyone quickly scatter like that.

I think they may have sent everyone away in fear of more killings. However, I think that stopping all screenings and turning on all the lights would have most likely deterred a possible active shooter until police came.

  • The teens were attending a showing of the film at the Regal Edwards Corona Crossings the film when gunshots rang out around 11.45pm Monday
  • Cops said that the woman, 18, died at the scene and the man, 19, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries
  • An employee found the teens after the movie- The Forever Purge - ended
  • Cops have found no witnesses or surveillance camera footage indicating a possible suspect, or the weapon that fired the shots
  • Officials added that six tickets had been sold for the movie showing and asked potential witnesses to come forward
Cops said that the woman died at the scene and the man was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Neither victim has been identified.

The Forever Purge, which is the fifth installment in the successful Purge franchise, follows a migrant couple and the wealthy ranchers they work for in a dystopian version of the United States in the year 2048 in which the government allows all crime for a 12-hour period - including murder.

Cpl. Tobias Kouroubacalis told the Press Enterprise that he did not know if cops would be investigating whether the movie's theme could be related to the shooting.

The relationship between the two teens was not immediately clear, and it was also not known if the teens were shot at by a third person or if the shooting was an attempted-murder suicide.

If it was an attempted murder/suicide, I'd think LE would've found the weapon next to them ?
What a sad and bizarre case.
Rest in peace to Rylee and hoping Anthony survives and can give a testimony for evidence.

Was there anyone walking into the movies with an unusually large jacket on or a large purse or man bag, concealing a gun ?

Unprovoked. No motive. Didn't even know them.

The 🤬🤬🤬 just wanted a chip thrill? Thought it would be fun to be like one of the sickos in the movie they watched so he picked people at random to shoot? I think I'm done with the news for a while.

I am curious how they found him so fast, although after seeing his face, I think they likely honed in on him pretty fast. He looks pretty rough. And if they saw him on video, they probably looked into him quickly. He's got that So Cal gang banger look.

A gunshot would be insanely loud in a closed area like that. You should be able to tell the difference between a movie gunshot and one in the theater. He could have used a home made suppressor but he doesn't look like the type to have the skills to do it

Joseph Jimenez, 20, was arrested Tuesday night by Corona police and booked for murder, attempted murder and robbery. Authorities say it appeared to be an unprovoked attack and believe he acted alone.

At a Wednesday press conference, Officer Tobias Kouroubacalis of the Corona Police Department, said Jimenez was in possession of a ticket for that showing, but did not clarify if it was purchased or obtained another way.

So far, there is no indication that the suspect knew the victims or had any prior contact with them, he added.

On Tuesday around 10:30 p.m., detectives served a search warrant in the 19000 block of Envoy in El Cerrito, where Jimenez lived, police said.

Kouroubacalis did not release specifics as to what led to locating the suspect but said witnesses "in the area" came forward with information that helped them.

"During the search of the residence, a firearm and additional evidence related to the crime scene were discovered. The firearm matched the caliber of the weapon used in the murder," police stated in a press release.

When asked whether Jimenez has any mental health issues, police said that's unknown. And when asked whether the extreme violence in the movie played any role in the suspect's actions, police said they "have not learned anything of that type that's come into play for this particular scenario."

Corona Police Department told CBS that the teen duo was found near their seats when at some point, the employees walked inside the theater to conduct their clean-up and that’s when they called 911. The workers said there was an unknown problem, somebody was bleeding and very limited specific information was given to the police.

Goodrich’s cousin, Ashley Cole, told KCBS that Goodrich had been shot in the back of the head. She was a student of STEM at Grand Canyon University in Arizona. Meanwhile, Barajas’ most recent post on TikTok was on Friday and showed a family vacation.

The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Joseph Jimenez, was booked on Tuesday night on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and robbery. Police said he will be thoroughly investigated in the coming days. Police booked him when the weapon used in the shooting was found at his home. According to CBS LA, investigators are confident he acted alone.

Police found no information about the connection between the suspect and the teens or whether they had any prior contact before these crimes took place. Some witnesses provided information to police on Wednesday that led them in the suspect’s direction, a statement said.

Police also informed that the suspect had a ticket for the movie. Officers arrived on the scene and found the two friends suffering from gunshot wounds, though authorities said no weapon was found at the scene.

Rylee Goodrich Death: What We Know About The Case

The unspeakable grief gives way to anger for a bit then the pain explodes again, with questions, and more pain. For Dave Goodrich – whose daughter, 18-year-old Rylee Goodrich, was shot to death while watching a movie on her first date with 19-year-old social media influencer, Anthony Barajas – it’s visibly unbearable, even as he seems to still be in shock.

"It was their first date," he explains. "And a boy her dad actually approved of."

The tears begin to sneak past his sunglasses as he speaks with FOX 11. Rylee, a graduate of Corona High School, was visiting her parents while on break from Grand Canyon University, where she was studying marketing on a full scholarship.

"But she wanted to go into criminal justice and had been working with me this summer in my Private Investigator job," the grieving dad says proudly.

When he heard police had arrested 20-year-old Joseph Jimenez, who they believe shot the couple before fleeing at the theatre, he tried to find out more about the suspected shooter. But like the detectives, he couldn’t find priors or gang the suspected shooter may have been possibly affiliated with.

A search warrant at Jimenez's home did yield a handgun and bullets of the same caliber as used in the crime. The Corona Police Department also found Rylee’s belonging, including her wallet.

"She had no money in it," the dad said. "The boy was paying for everything and I thought she just had her phone."
