https://www.yahoo.com/news/boy-killed-school-shooting-had-survived-heart-surgery-200954493.html
An 8-year-old boy shot and killed along with his teacher in a San Bernardino special-education classroom was born with a genetic condition and had survived heart surgery, a school official said Tuesday.

Children with Williams syndrome can be "overly friendly and endearing," Monkaba said. "They prefer to see ... the glass as half-full rather than half-empty. They look for joy. They love people."

No words. :(
I was just starting to read about him. Don't know if this article provides any additional information:
At only 8 years old, Jonathan Martinez was already a survivor.

He had endured heart surgery and many other challenges presented by Williams syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental disorder marked by cardiovascular disease, developmental delays and learning disabilities, as well as impressive creative talents.

[...]

Though special-education students are often saddled with stereotypes, Jonathan was born with a genetic disorder that defies preconception. Though Williams syndrome can lead to health problems and cognitive challenges, people with the disorder are also known for being extroverted, passionate and creatively inclined.

especially heartbreaking to learn a child has overcome so much in life and then suddenly his life is so brutally and thoughtlessly taken.

This tells a little more about the problems in Anderson's marriage and past relationships, and his threats of violence.
The man who opened fire in a San Bernardino school was a deeply religious Navy veteran who accused his newlywed wife of infidelity.

[...]

In the weeks before Monday's violence, Karen Smith told family members her new husband, Cedric Anderson, had tried to get her to return home and threatened her, San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said. She didn't take him seriously and thought he was just seeking attention, he said.

[...]

Anderson's ex-wife, Natalie Anderson, had sought a restraining order against him in 1996 after he told her he would kill her and her children and take his own life when she refused to pay for their divorce, according to court documents obtained by the New York Daily News. Their divorce was finalized the next year.

Another of Anderson's girlfriends was granted a restraining order in 2013 after Anderson held a pillow over her face, the newspaper reported.

Just horrific what all of these women faced.

More about Karen Smith and her students:
Killed was Jonathan Martinez, 8, who had a rare genetic condition known as Williams syndrome and had survived heart surgery. A 9-year-old boy also was shot but was in stable condition and in good spirits, watching cartoons in his hospital bed Tuesday, police said.

[...]

The slain teacher was remembered Tuesday by one school parent as "nothing but good" with the patience and understanding to handle special-needs students.

"She was an excellent teacher," said Marie Cabreras, who has two young children at North Park and also has an older daughter who was Smith's student for two years at a nearby high school.

"She loved on kids. Her whole life was surrounded around kids and helping them, and helping them build a future," Cabreras said.

Good to see the 9-year-old is improving.

San Bernardino School Shooting: Two Dead, Two Wounded in ‘Murder-Suicide’ in Classroom

by Andrew Blankstein and Corky Siemaszko

Two adults, including a teacher, were killed and two students were wounded inside a San Bernardino, California, classroom Monday in what authorities were calling a murder-suicide shooting.

Authorities believe the children were near the female teacher at North Park Elementary School when the gunman entered the classroom and opened fire, Police Capt. Ron Maass said at a news conference.

Police do not believe the kids were targeted, Maass said.

"There was no indication the gun was visible upon his arrival at the school," Maass told reporters, referring to the gunman...

San Bernardino Police Capt. Ron Maass said the suspect had gone to the classroom to visit the female victim, who was an instructor. There is no indication the suspect's handgun was visible when he entered the school, Maass said.
The man signed in at the front office before going to the classroom, according to Maass.

On top of it all, these were special ed children.

I didn't know that. This would be traumatic on any child, but these children may lack the ability to cope with day to day things let alone this. What a selfish horrible man!

Rest in peace, Jonathan Martinez and Karen Smith !!

To be a special ed teacher, Karen must have loved those kids. I teach special needs children as well and I love them all dearly. I can't imagine the horror she felt to know that they were in danger, especially because of someone related to her. Her last thoughts must have been fear for her kids and perhaps guilt. Maybe she was standing in front of her kids trying to protect them.

There's no way the children getting shot was an accident, whether they got caught in the crossfire or not. This man, who must have been in deep pain or whatever you want to call it, had a choice to bring that gun in that classroom with kids present, and open fire in a classroom. My friends in LE say DV calls are some of the most dangerous calls to respond to, this is a good example.

My sweet smiling kindergartener just popped in to show me that she's able to tie her own shoes now. My tears of pride are mixed with sorrow. I am conflicted in my celebration

Jonathan Martinez was robbed of countless milestones today. Rest in peace, condolences to his family.

(((((mrsobrien)))))) It's a sad day for many but please, enjoy your sweet little one. Your kindergartner deserves all of the celebration you can muster. Before you know it, she'll be grown. My baby turned 27 last month. Enjoy every moment.

I would not be surprised if Cedric Anderson is an injustice collector/grudge holder. Almost every school shooter/spree killer is an injustice collector.

Karen Elaine Smith was clearly targeted as a source of resentment.

Can you please explain and elaborate more? I know you've mentioned this in other threads and I'd like to know more about this. Tia.

If they had been in a relationship for 4 years and she voiced concerns about him to her children, including threats he'd made, I wonder how long before he began revealing the violent side of his personality. Had she broken off the relationship at other times, prior to their marriage? Usually people with personality disorders are good at disguising their true selves until they feel it's "safe" to unmask themselves. Once the relationship seemed secure, it wouldn't be unusual if he began to remove that mask, and then apologized profusely and begged her forgiveness when he realized he'd begun removing his disguise too soon. If he'd learned from prior experiences/relationships in life just when he could remove the disguise and to what extent, he may not have revealed his true self until after they were married. Sometimes that happens--no matter how kind, considerate and loving the other person appears prior to marriage.

It does say in the article that Smith kept her private life private from her coworkers. And Anderson most likely concealed his true self from them. It makes the abused person in the relationship more submissive and less likely to talk about problems in the relationship when she realizes she is the only person her spouse mistreats. She thinks no one will believe her since he treats everyone else so kindly, and she may even be convinced she is the problem. :shakehead: In this case, Smith did share concerns about him with those closest to her, but again I don't know if that was after they married or before. Unfortunately, she didn't take his threats serious enough, soon enough.

I had a lowlife ex who used to beat the crap out of me decades ago. He pulled me out of bed one time when I was fast asleep and threw me down on the ground where he proceeded to repeatedly kick me in the stomach. I was pregnant. I had just gotten a new job, and he was was jealous that I had a fun job while he was "slaving away". 🤬🤬🤬. I finally got away from him, didnt have the baby...but thank goodness met a wonderful man afterwards who could not be more gentle and kind. He broke my walls down and showed me I could love again, that not everyone is this way. We amicably separated and are great friends to this day.

We've been talking about injustice collectors over on the Jakubowski thread.

Here are links to a couple of articles that have been posted there.

https://newrepublic.com/article/122...ors-how-understand-vester-flanagans-manifesto

O'Toole published a primer on injustice collectors in the journal Violence and Genderlast year, and many of her descriptors could be lifted right out of this case: "nurses resentment ... accumulating real or imagined slights, insults or putdowns ... could not get along with his co-workers ... disproportionate and aggressive response." Collectors magnify petty "injustices" and perceive them as intentional and purposeful. Over time, he forms a worldview of himself as victimized, bullied, discriminated and disrespected.

<snip>

Collectors who kill get overwhelmed by their enemies list. Everyone is on it. Chance encounters, people he doesn't even know: That bus driver who braked too abruptly three summers ago; the woman at Starbucks who coughed too much in 1983; the dirty look from the girl in high school Spanish class, sophomore year. They ruminate over petty slights, often imaginary, and spit them back in specific detail years later.
