I just want to say one thing about the good Samaritan that said she couldn't stop in time but did call LE. I totally get that. There have been times on the expressway where I've noticed someone stranded and thought about stopping but by the time I actually saw the person and realized i should stop I was way past her/him. My choice would be to stop way beyond where they were, and walk back (not happening at 4 AM in the dark) or back up on the expressway, also in the dark.

So her not stopping in time but stopping when she could to call the police is not weird to me.

Weird is the whole rest of this case. I'll stop right there. I'm happy she's alive.

I doubt they set out to have it unfold the way it did. Here is a possible, speculative scenario:

They wanted to add to their crew of forced sex workers. They see a petite pretty blonde running alone in a remote area. They grab her, planning to sell her to the mob in charge.

But all of the crazy publicity may have prevented them form selling her or sending her to them. So they were stuck with her while they decided what to do. And maybe they are not cold blooded killers, and so they hesitated, not knowing what to do.

It is also possible that the real abductor threatened to kill her family if she gave an accurate description and account of what happened. So she had to make up something far from the truth to save them?
Her face was everywhere. Had they planned to use her in the sex industry, perhaps someone eventually would have recognized her and alerted police? No, then they would be admitting to the fact that they were involved in criminal activity as well.
I can not imagine how she wasn't killed unless it somehow involved a well to do family member and blackmail of some type.
I feel like the ransom was agreed upon some time Wed, and paid quietly behind the scenes after the call that Sherri had been found. LE must know more, but to share that information might lead to more kidnappings and ransom demands.

Sadly I am afraid we will hear of "copy cat" cases. It sure feels like LE somehow knew to stop the search, there had to be a really good reason, like a ransom request. Then again what do I know!
It's just my opinion.

I have no doubt LE tried to get as much information as possible. It appears, though, they were unsuccessful.

What makes you say that?

I get what you're saying, but what should we expect them to say? We're not going to give any details about the suspects at this time? If there is any possibility of truth behind her story, they have to alert the public to a description. Unfortunately, that's the description she gave them to tell...

LE could very well could be presenting themselves to the public as though they believe the abduction story, even if they don't (or they don't know either way yet definitively) just to keep people from clamming up or they aren't ready to arrest. That seems to happen a lot.

I have so many questions:

1) where did she sleep?

2) where did she eat?

3) was she wearing different clothes?

Lately, I've noticed LE keeping most crime info to themselves. Very frustrating for us sleuths!!!

IMHO

I wouldn't, unless I was armed. I am jaded and would be afraid that it was somehow a setup amd that I would end up just like her.
However the response time after calling 911 in my area is approximately 20 min. WAY too much time for things to go terribly wrong. -even armed really, I would still feel like I might become the target or be outnumbered by others who were also armed.
In reality I can't say what I would do can I? I would be too afraid to stop if I was alone, but I would definitely call 911, that much I do know..
MOO

I would stop. At the very least I would stay in my car and give her my phone to use. I once pulled over after seeing a man slap a woman (he ran when I stopped my car) and I've pulled over for a dog. Maybe I'm too trusting.

It really is. Don't they know that's what we're here for?! ;)

True. Especially if there were two abductors. One could hold the victim while the other got the phone. They would be dumb not to ditch the phone though. It could lead LE right to them unless they immediately took out the battery.

I guess I don't know what, if anything, the abductors had to gain by taking the phone and disposing of it elsewhere instead of leaving it where it was dropped. What mattered more: Getting Sherri in the SUV and getting out of there ASAP? Or getting Sherri in the SUV and, instead of getting out of there ASAP, going to grab the phone so it could be taken somewhere else and disposed of? Seems to me they'd be high tailing it out of there before another person or vehicle spotted them and their unusual activity.

Above are a couple of links to stories in MSM this morning about the dispatch communications with the sheriff's department officer responding to the scene where SP was found. Dispatcher is relaying information provided by the CHP officer who was first on the scene. You may discuss what is covered in the MSM in relation to these transmissions.

A member was kind enough to post the audio in the SCANNER BREAKING thread and provide their own transcription of that audio. It is not an official transcript and items from the SCANNER thread may not be discussed here. Do not link the audio file here. Here is a link to the SCANNER thread.

ADMIN NOTE: Internet speculation and rumors aside, LE has given us NO reason to believe that SP is anything but a victim. Treat her and her family as such per Websleuths Terms Of Service.

Any post debating race, culture or politics will be removed.

THIS is the warning, there will not be others, Time Outs will be issued if you fail to follow the rules.

This thread is now open for posting.

Quite a bizarre story.

I'm just catching up here, I almost forgot about this one.

Was this a wealthy family? Other than momentary gain I'm perplexed as far as a motive.

Lots to read...

I assume you're responding to the quote from the woman who said she called 911
but couldn't stop in time? I thought that was REALLY weird too
. I guess with all the
craziness these days, if it was a lone woman maybe she didn't feel safe to stop? It
was 4:30 a.m. so pitch dark. But it did catch my attention.

I know, that is odd...4:30am is still pitch black, I'm not
sure what I would do if I was driving alone...Call 911 surely, but I'm not sure if I would
be brave enough to stop, get out of my car, etc. Don't want to be the next victim. It
was super odd that that lady posted on facebook that she "didn't have time to
stop"
Sounds like she just wants her 15 minutes of fame, IMO.

From what I've seen on the news - She was found off I5 - I5 is a freeway - so she
must have been going at least 65 mph, and how can she stop in time if she's going
that fast.... okay - I read the People article and it said she was found on a County 70 road - not by the freeway...

When I made the request many threads ago for everyone to stop
posting while I caught up, SillyBilly was kind enough to close the thread just long
enough for me to catch up. She does that for me all.the.time!! It's so sweet of her.

Well, as I'm reading now - it IS closed... Thanks SillyBilly! I can catch up and
save this post for when it opens again!

Caught up! Thanks for opening up the thread again tlcya! I see 133 people were waiting :waiting: patiently no doubt for this thread to open, as I have!

Not a wealthy family. Looks like they lived modestly.

Hi friends! New vid (the beginning-ish contain some dispatch calls. "Appears to be heavily battered and chained to something")

http://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news...three-weeks-but-questions-remain-817763907859

Also, I reside in Sacramento - article from Sac Bee:
http://www.sacbee.com/news/local/crime/article117110028.html
"Detectives have authored close to 20 search warrants – some of which are sealed – and they said they’re examining cellphone records, bank accounts, email and social media profiles..."
And
"Before Papini reappeared, investigators said they had spoken with her friends and acquaintances, as well as “people Sherri has had past relationships with” to try to find her."

Be good today, so we don't get closed down again and again!

I'm interested in how Sherri seemed when she was found. Quoting from this article: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...ssing-calif-mom-waving-road-article-1.2887530

------
Alison Sutton, 43, said she was driving north on Interstate 5 near County Road 17 in unincorporated Yolo early Thursday when she glimpsed a clearly distressed blond woman in her headlights off to the right.

"When I saw her, it really startled me. She was really close to the road, like almost out in traffic," she told the Daily News.

"She had some piece of fabric in her hands and was waving it up and down. I'm thinking it was a shirt. She was waving it like a flag," she said.

"The woman I saw had long blonde hair and was not appropriately dressed for as cold as it was. She didn't have a jacket," she explained.

"She didn't look like she was hurt, but she did look scared. It was just the feeling that I got. It was just a really brief moment, and I was driving at freeway speed. It was dark. It was just luck that I saw her at all," she said.

"The way she was waving the fabric seemed frantic," Sutton recalled. "I realized if she was that close to getting hit — willing to be that close to freeway traffic — she must really need help."

[...]

Sutton said she couldn't tell if Papini was wearing any restraints when she saw her.

Well, one way or other, few can doubt this:

"Right now she's been through a very traumatic event, and needs time with her family."

Sheila Koester, Kerri Papini's sister, quoted in Chicago Tribune link above.
