I believe that the bag and books were placed behind cactus, because it was an attempt to get them out of the vehicle, but also out of remorse. I see no staging in that. I believe they just got them out of the vehicle so they weren't caught.
After committing crimes, it is not unusual for a perpetrator to make himself coffee or do very calculated, calm things. Especially a seasoned perpetrator. He will be less wild, less stupid. He will be more calculated in his moves.
The fact that she has changed her clothing (probably) is a blessing in disguise, because maybe she was taken to his home and changed from her original clothing as part of control over her. Perhaps she's not deceased, and we are looking at another Cameron Hooker or another guy like the sick perv and his wife who abducted Jaycee Dugard.
I know the statistics. The statistics say what was written here earlier, but they also say that it is most likely someone the child knows, or is familiar with, who they trust.
I think it's a neighbor or someone nearby. I'm sticking to that until I change my mind.
