Re: the braid of hair collected from AGT's home...

Is it common for women to keep their own cut braids of hair? Do many of you have these around the house? I can understand a child's lock of hair or even a very long braid kept for a while, maybe... but... well, it seems a little odd to me. I have a tendency to be a pack rat but I'm the hairless variety.

I keep my own braid, cut when I was a teenager. A souvenir, reminding me that I was a blonde once :D

I turned whatever that image is that looks like some sort of mushroom, into a negative image, just to see if you can see whatever those letters are easier?

Sometimes these arrests are not planned down to the minute. LE doesn't make the decision to arrest in a major case like this, that comes from the DA, and they need a warrant signed by the judge.

A very public arrest like that makes a statement, both to the perp and to the public. It tells him no matter how smart he thinks he is, they're smarter, and they can move in on him anytime, anywhere. It tells the public, we've got this monster off the streets, now you can all relax and breathe easier.

Additionally, I think it's a strong statement that it was at Safeway. It quickly associated and linked him through this location because of previous attacks, employment etc. this shows he is familiar with the area, this Safeway.

I have very long hair and always have, over 40, and I have never once taken a braid of hair or lock of hair except to donate it, and have never heard of it unless someone was dying and wanted a keepsake of their loved one.

Right, I keep the ones to donate but only until I get them mailed out. :)

Here is a peek inside one of those trailers @ Maple leaf park. IMO, these are nice and a very good deal.

ITA!!

I looked at rates....http://www.campingfriend.com/MapleLeafRVPark/default.asp?file=Rates

I might be spoiled with the cost of living, but isn't that A LOT of money for a month?? Can't find it anymore, but it was like $850/mo.

Also, when it has "amenities on site" on the left, and you click "more" it has a "dump station"....just creepy sounding, under these circumstances...IMO.

I feel like SL's clothes are folded because Sierra carefully folded them and put them in her bag - to buy time and because she thought she would be putting them back on.

The park also has Wi-Fi per their website.
Yes, dump station is creepy sounding, but is standard for trailers/campgrounds and consists of nothing more than a 4" pipe for the sewage to go in and a hose to rinse out sewage hose.

I do not think this is odd. His mother may have cut off her braid when her other son died. It is very common in other cultures to cut your hair very short as a sign of mourning

It crossed my mind that it could be a cultural thing and I thank you for confirming this. I just didn't realize the hair would be kept.

It's definitely done in American Indian culture, so maybe in some Hispanic cultures as well.

I think $850/month is cheap by Bay Area standards. It does seem high for "camping" but I've never gone RV'ing. I'm curious if this RV park is mostly for vacationers or mostly long term tenants like a trailer park.

I know my aunt rents out a home in the bay for about $3000. Up here (Sac), I could get a "decent" 1-bedrm apt for $850 but NOT in the best neighborhood. About the "dump station"....yes creepy :/

Well the rent for 4 people is more then 850 a month....I figured the rent is more like $1,380 monthly. 4 extra dollars a day per person over 2 people living in one trailer. Then you have to add on the 10% tax.

Generally speaking this type of RV park has more long term residents, or at least seasonal residents with a sprinkling of short term and overnighters.

Looks like we have an organized killer on our hands. Two crime scenes just like CA...grrr. I am still trying to figure out where he was working when he would drive into Sierra's neighborhood. That area isn't exactly screaming Malls and underground parking facilities. WTH was he doing there? I know Sierra's landlord had people working for him in back of the house. In the home next to Sierra, that also looked like people may work there. The only other work would be the fields and the mushroom farms.

He may have been 'scavenging' for old copper etc. His mom said he did that for money. So he might have been driving around looking for construction sites or abandoned homes or the like, to steal their plumbing etc.

Maybe they're collecting some sort of government assistance, but wow...THAT'S a whole lotta scrap metal...LOL

Remember when the sheriff's office discussed what was found at the rusty metal shed, early on. The spokesman said there were the clothes as well as other items a girl would have with her. No specifics ever expanded on that. I think now we know there were her keys, money, the inhaler. The indication was that these other items were in the Juicy sac.

Personally, I don't like thinking about the mother's braid but I can see how it would be forensically useful. Apart from the skin fragments of A.G.-T. found in Sierra's belongings, he may have shed a hair there. His mitochondrial dna is inherited from his mother alone (not his father). Examination of her braid will go to proving the hair found was A.G.-T.'s because the mitochondrial dna has certain characteristics that are matched to his mother's and are essentially unique to them.

As posted here today, fisherman A.G.-T. would be very conscious of the value of cold if he found himself with a body. He might figure the depths of a large body of water would suffice. I've tried to picture him burying his victim but he might be aware of the problem the shovel would present. That's one reason I've thought about sandy loam that could be dug and the implement(s) destroyed.

bbm I wonder if that would include womans hygiene products. Forget that, they also said no blood found. *sigh* or she had a panty liner on, and there was evidence on that. Sticky tape so his DNA could have attached easy on that?

According to his family. The braid belonged to his mom, according to his sister. For some reason, LE decided they should confiscate it; maybe they didn't agree with his sister.

I wonder where the hair braid was found. Do you think it's possible that he could have taken hair from his victims, as sort of a trophy? Maybe they found the hair braid hidden in his room or something, so they want to test it to make sure it is his moms, and not a possible victim. Just thinking outside the box here.

That was my first thought about the braid - maybe a trophy. Not sure his mom would claim it as hers though, as it doesn't seem to me she would defend him to the end if she "knew" he was guilty. I get the impression the shame of what he has done would crush her. Then again, not sure I read his mom actually said it was hers, or if it was only his sister. And denial is a powerful drug, so who knows?

Denial is a very powerful thing. His sister seems pretty adament that he is not the killer. It just seems very odd to have a braid of your own hair in your house. At first I thought, maybe LE cut a braid out of her hair for testing, BUT that doesn't make sense since they would need the roots and only one or two strands.
