Very sad indeed. Its almost like this is being handled as a private family matter. :(

Thanking your post wasn't enough. You put into words exactly how the family appears to be acting toward Susan vanishing. I had an acquaintance who disappeared back in the 1970s from Grass Valley (she has a small thread here) and I have been haunted by Joann's case for 40 years.

I cannot fathom what to do if one of my family members vanished, but I wouldn't be sitting on my hands waiting for LE to act.

Susan, where are you? We care very much.

I hate feeling this way and boy do I hope I'm wrong, but same here.

I get the horrible feeling this will be one of those "found after 20 years" stories at this point (where is my big question... a wall, a basement, a garden??). Again, I hope I'm wrong.

Yeh, it's like they don't want anyone's help, they don't want to make a fuss about it, they just seem like they are shrugging their shoulders then just going on with life, not looking back and not looking for her.

(((hugs Susan))) thought of you today. I fear that you're not ok, but I hope that you are. I still hold out hope.

I am thinking of you, Susan...

Hope you are found soon...

Sad isn't it?

Why do you all think they have let this fade away?

Im beginning to believe she left and they all know it! maybe not happy she did but this was the only way she could break free of her life!

I think there was a lot going on here we don't know about Just Like Robert Mayer!

You know... This is a way more appealing alternative to the theory I have...

What if she felt she had to get away due to some kind of abuse...

How do women shelters plan scenarios for women needing to leave their home... And go "under the radar"....

Is a scenario like Susan's an example?

Or ... Are plans created specifically for each individual?

Or a little of both?

Just throwing out some thoughts...

I have never pictured Susan as a woman to take off and never come back. I thought she would be happy about her first grandchild. But I don't know that. Unless she was able to hoard money, that would be hard to pull off. The lack of info and investigation is sickening.
I cannot justify the lack of interest after a month of searching, if that. So if the family shrugs it off, does LE as well??

I think she had some money put aside and split!
Probably enuff to start over I don't think this was a spur of the moment decision I think this was planned! No shelters for her.

Maybe there was someone that helped her!

Have you read the lastest interview with His mother and sister ?

It sheds a lot of different info on that case!

No - can you PM me a link? TIA!

  • #793
Or post the link here? I am always interested in Susan's case and think of her often. TIA!

Thanks, Eileen. I was so hoping there was something about Susan (should have noted the "his mother" statement).

I did read the mayer article and yes, it was quite eye-opening!!

I just don't get that warm fuzzy family feeling here! Sorry!
everything has been DISTANT... and strange!
She was a loner!
She was Shy!
She kept to herself!
She is a private person!

No cellphone!
No computer!

Family says NOT MUCH!
LE says even less!

I mean really!

Sounds like she was a prisoner! JMO
Maybe she broke free!

Thing is, just because Susan is shy, private, kept to her self, did not have a cellphone, but she did e-mail, has a private family, does not mean, imo, that she necessarily left on her own accord.
There are diverse personalities in this world.
I know quite a few people that do not have a cellphone, but still keep a landline. I know many private people as well. There are some people in this world that don't make friends easily, or don't want to.
She might sound like a "prisoner" to some, but for a quiet person, this is solitude, an aspect of their reality, how they are, and how they want to be.
It does make it difficult to Help Find Susan when the family AND/OR a Support Network is NOT there, so speculating on who Susan is and why she could have left, or did not leave is challenging.
I can understand why people would think she left, particularly if people don't understand that some people are Loners. On the other hand, I don't want to discount that she may have been harmed, and maybe somebody didn't want her around anymore, whether it be someone she knows or a stranger. If foul play occurred, I hope there would be answers, and justice to prevail.
IMOO.

Also, the fact that Susan's son said that she was looking forward to being a grandmother for the first time, makes it unusual that she would take off on her own.
Wouldn't Susan miss her family?
Wouldn't she miss her husband, son, daughter-in law and grandchild, not to mention her own sister?
It just doesn't add up for me.
If Susan was unhappy, she could have divorced and still have seen her son, daughter-in-law, grandbaby, and sister.
If Susan were afraid to divorce, why would that be then?? Why run off??
That is telling in itself, if that is the case. But I don't think she ran off.
It doesn't add up to me that she left on her own. It just doesn't, but that's what's cool about Websleuths, as everybody has a plethora of ideas, considering nobody knows what has happened to Susan.
IMOO.
