Circumstances of Disappearance Mr. Powell was seen on video Surveillance leaving his shop in the 500 block of Virginia St. In New Madrid. Powell was driving a dark gray 2003 Chevy Extended Cab Silverado with a dent in the bed behind the cab on the drivers side. At 2:36 p.m. Powell was seen on Surveillance video traveling north on Main Street. At approximately 2:44 p.m. Powell was seen west bound on State Highway W going toward Kewanee, Mo.
I think there is one slight error in the NamUs report though. There is not a Virginia Street in New Madrid. There is a Virginia Avenue.
Virginia Ave > Main St > Dawson Rd (west) > Hwy 61 > Hwy W is the shortest route from Virginia to Kewanee. It's a drive of 7.7 miles or 11 minutes. The area is small town, businesses, and farm land. Following Google maps, I don't see any bodies of water along the route.
The other (longer route 9.3 miles or 14 minutes) would take him Virginia Ave > Main St > Dawson Rd (east) > Hwy U/725 > Hwy P > Hwy 62 > Hwy W to Kewanee. Again, small town, businesses and farm land and I didn't see any bodies of water.
This morning, deer hunters found Caleb Powell’s abandoned truck in rural New Madrid County. Mr. Powell was reported missing from New Madrid in April and still has not been found. Specific, directed searches will be conducted over the next few weeks in the area where the truck was found.
At this time, we are not asking for volunteers in relation to the search. It is being conducted on private property, and no one is allowed in the search area without the expressed consent of the landowner. In addition, too many people in the search area could hamper future efforts to locate Mr. Powell. This is an ongoing investigation and updates will be provided when available.
